It’s been 6 months since Dubai was wiped off the map by a cataclysmic sandstorm. Thousands of lives were lost, including those of American soldiers sent to evacuate the city. Today, the city lies buried under sand, the world’s most opulent ruin. Now, a mysterious radio signal is picked-up from Dubai, and a Delta Recon Team is sent to infiltrate the city. Their mission is simple: Locate survivors and radio for Evac. What they find is a city in the grip of war. To save Dubai, they’ll have to find the man at the heart of its madness—Col. John Konrad.

wolfsite: I doubt they will.
People have been yelling at EA for years to stop forcing Multi player components into single player games and to release more single player games but they keep focusing on multi and live services and blame low sales numbers on the Single player part. I wouldn't be surprised if the CEO's are hoping the upcoming Star Wars single player game doesn't sell well so they can say "See single player games don't sell, low sales numbers has nothing to do with live services or are shitty reputation"
My hats down before you, good sir! You are absolutely right. Could not have written better myself!
Spec Ops:The Line is a deconstruction of the linear military cover-shooter in which an elite team goes in and the player SAVES THE DAY against all odds because HEROICS!
It uses the same mechanics as those games for exactly that purpose (and, arguably, subverts some of them rather well - cool drone minigame anyone?).

It is a great gaming experience, not a great gameplay experience.
Does anyone know if the .ini files are still encrypted? In the original release, you couldn't set 16:10 resolutions without decrypting first.

Yeshu: It's clear on the store page that it's only singleplayer.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: No, actually, saying on the store page that it's only singleplayer, does not make clear in any way, shape or form, that the original version of this game as published on another platform, has a multiplayer feature which this new GOG version has removed.

Whether multiplayer is good or not, and whether it is active or not, doesn't change the point. Regardless of how good or bad, and active or inactive the MP is, in every case, GOG still has an ethical responsibility to disclose clearly to its customers that it is selling them a feature-removed version of the original.
Sadly as listed on the game store, our version of Spec Ops doesn't have multiplayer feature :(
I love Spec Ops: The Line and seeing its release today was a welcome surprise! Instant purchase, right on the spot.

The developers criticizing the player for having a power fantasy, and then telling them one of the available options is not to play the game, was poorly handled. But if you ignore that, the story is still very fun especially on a second playthrough.

I'm afraid that the files are indeed encrypted.

However, you could try using Flawless Widescreen in order to try to improve your gaming experience.

Ashleee: Gladly as listed on the game store, our version of Spec Ops doesn't have multiplayer feature :)
Fixed that for you.

wolfsite: Just grabbed this and Blood. Thanks for the release.
A kindred spirit. ;)
That's cool I guess, but it has a native Linux version elsewhere. No tux, no bux.

The simple cover shooter gameplay where your stupid companions are hit by tons of lead abolutely doesn't fit to the story and the controls aren't adapted for playing with mouse and keyboard. You can call it subversive art, but I simply call it bad game design. I'm convinced that it had been possible to include a subversive story in an otherwise flawless game.
Great game, thanks for this. To people upset about the multiplayer gone in the GoG version I gotta say this:

Imagine having a great meal but it also comes with a side bowl of crap as a bonus. You don't want to have it but it's there for no good reason. Now imagine going to a different restaurant where you have the same meal but they leave out the bonus.

Now tell me, which service you like better? It's the same meal and yet you are not missing out by not having the bonus in the second restaurant.

My point here is even the developers thought the multiplayer was a mistake and the game is sold on GoG for -80% (around €4 for me). At this price it is a steal as the single player is fantastic, mainly the story.

So chin up and focus your energy on more positive things, it will make you happier. Cheers!

FullOfTacos: Well this was a pleasant surprise to wake up to!
I would hardly call it pleasant on the grounds of the story.
Is the Linux version expected to be released here?
nice news, but manual is missing.
Why ?
