Yeshu: The multiplayer was the worst part of the game, it was literally tacked on at the last minute as @K basically wanted to jump on on the military multiplayer action of the time.

Even on Steam no one was playing it. You get Spec Ops for the singleplayer and it's depressing story telling.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: That's doesn't change the facts that GOG should be extremely blatant & upfront about the fact that it removed multiplayer from the GOG version. Every customer needs to know that, including all the ones that didn't happen to read the post of the forum user who pointed it out.

This should not be a secret that GOG sweeps under the rug, via failing to make the fact of the removed multiplayer crystal clear on the store page itself.
Won't lie, I never knew this game even had Multi player period. Everything I have heard about this game is all about the single player, The reviews I have read from when it first came out never even mentioned Multi player .

Nice! I'd gladly "Connect" this one.

Either way, I wholeheartedly confirm this is a cool game. Classic, but competent, in its gameplay, and intriguing in everything else.

Yeshu: No one is keeping it a secret.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: In that case, where, precisely, on the GOG store page, does it tell prospective purchasers that this game has multiplayer on another platform but that multiplayer was removed from this GOG version?

Unless that information is disclosed clearly and in an upfront manner, then yes, it is being kept a secret. Not everyone reasons every forum post.
It's clear on the store page that it's only singleplayer.

Also no one is playing the multiplayer part of the game on Steam as the servers are basicaly dead.

Game features:
Achievements
Cloud saves
Controller support
Overlay
Single-player

No mention of Multiplayer, co-op, online or other common tags used to denote multiplayer aspect. Its about as transparently disclosed as you can ask for right on the games store page.

Not really GOGs responsibility to keep track what games have what level of functionality on platforms they have no control over.

Ah yes - "Spec Ops - the Line". A.k.a: the holy grail of gaming.

I remember, at the time of this game's release, gaming forums were filled with guys permanently complaining (among other things, ofc.) about gaming's advancing infection with "consoleritis", as was to be witnessed by:

- too many cover shooters, build out of
- too linear levels, and with
- auto regenerating health

Then "Spec Ops: the Line" came along, and all the same guys praised it for the great and outstanding gaming experience it delivered.

I bought it years after release in a Steam sale...started playing it...and found myself surprised that this highly praised "saviour of the PC gaming scene" was nothing more than a very linear cover shooter with auto regeneration mechanics.

Shows you the huge discrepancy between what players claim, what they want from a game, and what they actually play (and enjoy).

No, actually, saying on the store page that it's only singleplayer, does not make clear in any way, shape or form, that the original version of this game as published on another platform, has a multiplayer feature which this new GOG version has removed.

Whether multiplayer is good or not, and whether it is active or not, doesn't change the point. Regardless of how good or bad, and active or inactive the MP is, in every case, GOG still has an ethical responsibility to disclose clearly to its customers that it is selling them a feature-removed version of the original.

I just checked my collection of physical games and it turns out I have a physical PC version of the game and the box doesn't say anywhere that it had multi player either. So not mentioning multi player seems to be a common thing with this game.
A great release!
However, the full price seems a bit high.

Hope the game would go on sale again, in coming months.
On wishlist for now.

"Game has multiplayer, but no (useless) achievements." -people get offended

"Singleplayer game has achievements, but no (utter shite) multiplayer." -people get offended.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Fitting for this game.
This is a nice surprise, I don't like 3rd person shooters much, this one however has an excellent story and decent gameplay, at this price I don't mind picking it up and playing through it again.
Just grabbed this and Blood. Thanks for the release.

I remember everyone praised the story, but they thought the game itself had issues. Or at least they did on the consoles. At the time PC gaming had gotten pretty lame, so I had switched to consoles. Thankfully PC gaming got good again since then, so my consoles are just gathering dust now.
No coop online like Steam version, no money. Take note 2k.

I doubt they will.

People have been yelling at EA for years to stop forcing Multi player components into single player games and to release more single player games but they keep focusing on multi and live services and blame low sales numbers on the Single player part. I wouldn't be surprised if the CEO's are hoping the upcoming Star Wars single player game doesn't sell well so they can say "See single player games don't sell, low sales numbers has nothing to do with live services or are shitty reputation"
