Sokobond, a game of puzzles and chemistry, is available now for Windows and Mac OS X, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 50% launch discount.

Opposites attract, like dissolves like, matter is always conserved - that's all most of us remember from high school (some of us just read it online like ten minutes ago). Sokobond is a puzzle game grounded in the simple concepts of chemistry. A logical, minimalistic design matches the deceptively basic rule-set with a simple premise: manipulate a single atom to form chemical bonds and molecules. Varied, tough, and logical - Sokobond is everything you could want from a pure puzzle experience. No prior chemical knowledge is required to enjoy the game, but a tiny bit might help. You may just learn a thing or two as you tackle these increasingly sophisticated puzzles.

Sokobond, a gamer's crash-course in chemistry, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, March 12 at 11:59 AM GMT.

Vindicarrion: Definitely a novelty release that's for sure.

But wouldn't a lack of Chemistry knowledge defeat the whole purpose of this game?

Otherwise, you have another generic indie puzzle game unless there's something the advertisements failed to mentioned. Might give it a shot when it's on sale.
Based upon what I've read about it it helps if you have a higher IQ (like with all puzzles) and basic chemistry knowledge but it's not really needed.

the.kuribo: You know, although the game is being touted for you not needing to know anything about chemistry to play it, I would actually love it if games made more of an effort to synthesize the learning of real-world information and practical skills with fun and interesting gameplay.

To me, it's a real missed opportunity that can change something from "time-wasting fun" to "time-efficient fun".
You'd probably like Space Chem then, as it has more an "applied" context to why you're combining atoms to create molecules. Sadly, if anyone can create a game that can make learning about valence electrons, balancing reactions, reaction intermediates, Gringard reagents, energy diagrams, and accurate interpretation of NMR charts, please tell them to also invent a time machine so they can give it to my stupid-ass past self in university, so he can raise his mid-term marks in 2nd year undergrad Organic Chem...

Novelty for who? People who don't like puzzle games?

You don't need chemistry knowledge in that you don't need to have completed an undergrad physical/organic chemistry course to play the game.

But what's really lovely about this game is that it rewards you if you do have such knowledge. From looking at the atoms they give you, you can fathom a reasonable guess as to what molecule you're trying to make, and that can help you with the puzzle you're given. There are also other neat little touches too; if you have any knowledge of the "Noble" gases, you'll smile when they give you a Helium atom to control, which doesn't react with anything else.
Anybody else get a Bear when they try and load the game card?

Yes. Maybe we should wait a bit.

That's Soko-ban... and yes, this game is loosely a relative to that, hence the title.

I think you misunderstood. Sokobond game card wasn't showing for an hour or two and it has recently reappeared and that's what I was reporting.
Eh, why not, already spending a ton in the Insomnia promo. Bought. :)

That's the spirit!
Playing this now while keeping tabs on the Insomnia sale.

Liking it so far. It is an engaging little puzzler, with some chemistry FYI thrown in.

Now, if only they had this when I actually had Chemistry class... I might have retained more :-p
