You can't kill the metal, the metal will live on.

Slain!, a heavy-metal action/platformer full of facemelting gore, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount.

Metalheads, sharpen your oversized swords and prepare your sensitive ears. This is the epic, gory, and totally heavy-metal story of Bathoryn, the long-haired hero that decided to storm six creepy-looking towers, home to six terrible overlords. Will you help him wipe the toothy grins off their ugly mugs or will you let him get Slain?

You need to master three deadly weapons, learn their gruesome combos, then figure out which one serves you best in any given situation. Switching between them quickly and timing your attacks perfectly are key to overcoming the cunning traps and the demonic hordes spread across this gothic land. Learn your craft well and your enemies will explode into a deadly bouquet of pixel-art gore. Τake one wrong step and they will get the metallic taste of your blood in their mouths. Probably while listening to the awesome soundtrack, courtesy of heavy-metal legend Curt Victor Bryant. Those bastards.

Steel your heart and hand with heavy-metal and don't let your legend get Slain!, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until March 31, 6:59 PM GMT.

Chacranajxy: Apparently, the wrong version was submitted to GOG, and a patch is being uploaded soon. Thus, why it's not up on Steam yet. Hopefully, it resolves these issues.
Interesting, since it's usually the GOG version that's later to release/get patched, while the Steam version is usually more "up-to-date", but has all the bugs of a barely-tested day-1 game.
[shrug] A change of pace is nice sometimes, I guess. :)

Yeah. I just hope that the issues really are as simple as this, though. I want this game to be great.
This game definitely interests me. I don't do platformers often, but when I do, I want them to look like this! (metal + blood and whatnot!)

I'm also interested in general difficulty level, as well as how long to beat.

I've not played any other of this company's games.

It looks interesting, but quite a few user comments/reviews already mention borked gameplay controls. Unless that gets actually fixed, which obviously is a big part of any 2d game like it, it'll stay off my wishlist. Too bad.

They don't really make games rather than just publish them or so it seems. Dustforce appears to be a pretty solid platformer... one of these days I'll get to my backlog copy. ;)

As for Vertical Drop Heroes, it's a fun little roguelite platformer with local co-op if that's your thing. It's nothing truly special but an enjoyable diversion.

You may want to stay away from Paranautical Activity. It doesn't have a terribly good reputation (aside from the original idiot dev). Still, I might be morbidly curious enough to pick it up for $1.49. Hmmm. I have a few days to decide.

HunchBluntley: Kinda cool-looking, though probably not for me. :)
I do like the line in the game card that says "No leveling, no grinding, no crafting!" XD I wish more games of this sort just tried to be good in the action & platforming departments, instead of shoehorning in "RPG elements" because some fools think every game needs some sort of experience level mechanic.
Also, "formally of Celtic Frost" (which appears in two places in the description on the game card) should be "formerly of Celtic Frost".

Seems like maybe they should've waited, in this case -- three of the four reviews currently up on the store page here mention horrible control issues, and one says sound effects are almost nonexistent, among other mentioned problems.

That would certainly explain the issues I'm having.

There's not even a "Quit" Option in the main menu. You have to Alt Tab and manually close the game

This cannot be a full release retail version.

We've received a new build that will fix this and we'll roll it out tomorrow.

Glad to see you guys are on it quickly.

The game's got potential and a great soundtrack, but dang, uploading the wrong build of your game? That was a significant oversight on everyone's part.

Here's hoping the devs can fix the damage
Digerati sale

Seems odd it isn't mentioned in the news post.
Nice addition, wishlisted by now and going to watch the gameplay on Youtube.

tfishell: Ah, cool to see this show up! *checks wishlist* Wow, I didn't realize it had over 500 votes; especially neat to see it here now.
Slain! - A gothic puzzle-combat platformer with gore galore

I guess you didn't see that thread. But I didn't expect to see Slain! on GOG. Nice release. :)
If this game is trying to be metal, it really should have been called Slayn!.

The quit option is in there but you have to use "P" to access it, you can then quit.

I hope controls will be fixed soon, it's really unfinished in that part... But with such an amazing art style and soundtrack this game don't deserve to have such a bad reviews from start...
It's the first time, when I think release should have been delayed a bit by GOG :D
Any news about "Deluxe DLC" ?
I played it the whole morning, and I like it.

It's not a run and kick some ass game. It's just like Volgarr. Think wisely and watch your step.

There are some bugs. Not only in the "Menu", but also in the game.

In the first Tower, almost at the end I could not beat the firehounds. I died (a lot) and on the main menu I continued. For some reason the game thinks I beated the Towel level and the next level started (in the forest with a witch).

I hope the patch will fix more bugs :-)

Bytheway, you can do easily combo's when standing still. You even kick light enemies away.

New patch (1.0.5927.27778) is out for Windows and Linux. Mac is still in the works :)
