You need to see how this one ends!

SiN Gold, a classic first-person shooter with an original futuristic story of fight against an artificial outburst of criminal tendencies, and one of the best level designs of the 1990s, coming complete with the Wages of Sin expansion, is available for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

SiN Gold is one of the great and memorable first-person shooters of the olden days. Upon release it was highly praised for the great execution of its original and involving storyline and great level design, but sadly, it suffered from long loading times and pesky glitches. The fact that the patch fixing these problems was over 30MB in size in the times of Dial-Up Internet didn't help as well. That is how a game that deserves a prominent place in gaming's all-time hall of fame ended up slightly forgotten and overlooked by many FPS fans. With all the trouble way in the past, it is now time to get acquainted (or reunited) with this fantastic title! You can explore different puzzles and new routes each time you play. You will hack computer terminals, control security cameras, and wreak havoc. You will encounter new dangers and intelligent beings in every mission as you fight your way to the ultimate showdown! And you better believe it, an ultimate showdown it will be. The game comes complete with the Wages of Sin expansion.

Begin your crusade against crime and bring down the sinister syndicate lead by the beautiful but deadly Elexis Sinclaire in SiN Gold, for only $9.99 on GOG.com!
Yeah! Thanks GOG!! I have nice memories playing this one, was wondering if it was ever going to show up here =)
Oh hey, I was wondering when this would show up on the site.

The franchise had a sad fate. I admit I wasn't that much of a fan, but it was interesting enough to earn some recognition.
Ritual entertainment has a weird history :?

animehirmu: Thanks for finally bringing this title to GOG.
I already own a retail version registered on Steam of this that came with SiN Episodes: Emergence.
However, ever since my computer with Windows XP on it died for good, I haven't been able to run the Steam version of this game on an up-to-date Nvidia GPU and drivers on Windows 7. Without trying any fixes, it just gives me an error about Buffer Overrun Detected. Even with the trying all the fixes listed on pcgamingwiki, the game just will not launch.

So, my question goes as follows: is the GOG version of SiN plagued by the same problem ?
I'll certainly buy this game again if this version is rid of this nuisance.
My notes on SiN are below.

It works beautifully in Windows 8.1 (just played the opening few minutes of it); I installed it several upgrades ago, so I can't tell you if I'm using any of the tweaks noted besides renaming sin.exe to quake3.exe.

Good luck!
SiN running only in Software Mode in Vista: Rename executable to quake3.exe. Works!

No ALchemy

Edit \Sin\base\players\Blade\config.cfg (and for Wages of SiN, CTF):
set gl_playermip "0"
set gl_picmip "0"
set gl_bitdepth "0"
set gl_round_down "0"
set intensity "1.6"
set gl_triplebuffer "1"
set gl_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"

Game won't install in Windows 7 x64: Run setup.exe from within setup folder.

Whoa! I had hoped this one would somehow make its way here! I was not a FPS fan when it came out, and so I did not give it any kind of thought (to my eventual regret!). Wishlisted for now as I just got two (really 3) games this past weekend (trying to slow the pace of acquisition.... >.>).

However, after reading all the pages of postings prior to mine here, I am a bit confused.

This IS the one that came out in 1998 right? It was my understanding that the original intention was for this game to be episodic, but that never materialized.

Am I correct in taking away from all these posts that there was a later release on Steam that was also to be episodic and that the original 98 release could only be acquired by getting the newer version? If that is true, which one is this one (i.e. the 98 version or the later Steam version), and what is the difference between the two?

And where does the expansion Wages of Sin fit into the picture?

Any insight fellow GOGers?

The best part is I seem to have fewer problems running stuff on 8 than I ever did with 7.
It's weird: Ritual has very good name recognition, but I never realized that they developed so few games.

I was never interested in SiN, but I definitely agree that it should be here, and I'm happy for the fans!

Wages of Sin is included.

Strife: Beware, I just try to launch the game and his addons but I've only a black screen .
I can hear the sound of menu selection but nothing can be done.
Try renaming sin.exe to quake3.exe.

trusteft: Never played this before, what game does it resemble?
Quake, Soldier of Fortune.

Roman5: Even if this has been available on Steam for ages, Im glad that it came here
I prefer to buy games here (on sale, of course) more than anywhere else.

You buy it, you own it, the way it should be.

Drerhu: It has its flaws, but its totally playable right now (in comparaison with Daikatana or Blood 2, far more playable : )

PikaCommando: Bro don't even compare this game to those 2. It would have been a hit if it weren't for the loading times. The bugs after the patch are not a problem either. Those 2 on the other hand, is doomed from the start. Daikatana more so than Blood 2. I don't know, those 2 have lots of potential too okay? If it weren't for the rush, they would have been great games in their own rights too. It's just that those two's problem is everything, while SiN only have loading time and some bugs.
I enjoy all three.

HenitoKisou: So this is that better brother of Half Life but less known...
avatar
F4LL0UT: I wouldn't say that it's better, it certainly hasn't aged as well as Half-Life. But it's definitely under-appreciated.
A high-definition texture mod wouldn't hurt. :)

wolfsrain: SiN was a bugfest at release. Didn't help the fact that it was released at the same time with the highly anticipated (then) Half Life and Unreal. But hidden under that rough it was a good story, likable heroes and villains ( Elexis Sinclair still can be considered one of the sexiest and shrewdest female villains in a video game ), destructible environment ( a lot of it, something that Half-Life and Unreal didn't exactly had ), secondary and tertiary objectives ( also something new at the time ) and some nicely designed missions. It took a lot of time to clear the bugs and only at the patch 1.10 the game became truly playable.

By the time when SiN finally managed to get on its feet, the year was 2001 and the FPS market exploded. In many ways, SiN was before times and it was truly unlucky to be launched in a rather unpolished state and at the same time with the most anticipated games of '98.

And yeah, i was one of the few people that actually loved the bloody game at the time.
Me, too.

zubalove: Oh. I had no idea it doesn't work. I never got around to installing it. Thanks for the heads up.
avatar
Fenixp: Well it probably works on Windows XP machines, might even work on 7 even tho I do read about a lot of issues with that as well. It doesn't even start with Win8
The original retail CD version (patched) works.

SiN in 1998, then its expansion Wages of SiN.

The episodic sequel was later.

You're probably right about 8 -- I love it -- but I've spent so much time documenting solutions to games' issues over the last few versions of Windows, if I own it, I can make it run. :)

So now that this is here, maybe when Besthesda gets around to re-releasing the DRM-free versions of Fallout here - (maybe they're prepping or planning on giving us the uncensored versions of those game :)) they'll also get around to releasing a version of Quake 2 for PC that plays the sweet, sweet soundtrack without the original game CD in the tray!

I'm liking GOG's 2014 classic release regiment so far.

No kidding! I hope this is a solid example of what's in store for us for the coming year.
