"The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it."

SimplePlanes, the easy-to-use building/flying playground for aspiring aviators, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 25% launch discount.

Remember when the best use for our school books was as building materials for paper planes? Most of us have outgrown school by now but not the desire to craft our own airworthy creations, our marvellous SimplePlanes. And now we can, just by easily snapping parts together in order to give shape to the aircraft of our dreams. Retro or futuristic, massive or aerodynamic, fast or durable - as long as you can dream it, you can build it. Then take to the skies to test it, just flying around the sandbox or completing special challenges. If you are not feeling especially creative, you can always download other people's designs and see how they managed to combine efficiency with style. You are not limited to aircrafts either - other vehicles have the right to touch the sky too, you know!

Craft your SimplePlanes piece by piece, then put them up against the merciless laws of physics and aerodynamics, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% discount ends June 1, 12:59 PM UTC.

IronArcturus: Are any of the other flying dogfighting games on GOG?
Two of my favourites:

• Falcon Collection (basically you need this to install the best version of Falcon 4 which is Falcon BMS), although it is quite complicated and thus having a steep learning curve due to all the modern systems of the F-16 that are simulated. Not recommended if you don't have much free time in order to learn it - Highly recommended if you do have the time. ;)

• IL-2 Sturmovik (IL-2 1946), which is a much easier* sim to get into, due to the very simple design of the WWII aircrafts; no complicated weapon systems, missiles, radars etc - just point your guns, shoot the enemy and (hopefully) land your bird safely to tell the tale.

Whatever game you choose, you'll need a joystick.

*"easier" doesn't mean simple physics; IL-2 is a hardcore sim although it is very customisable (you can opt for unlimited fuel or bullets or even a much more forgiving flight model among other options)

IronArcturus: Yeah, I really wish GOG could get more flying games! Remember Combat Flight Simulator?

fisk0: I'd love to see Evasive Action on GOG, a dogfighting sim with planes from four world wars by the developers of the I-War games.
Hey, I know that game. It was an okay game in singleplayer.
this game kinda looks like it can get boring pretty fast

That game looks pretty cool, but it needs a lot more votes!

Do you know if either one of those games will work with an Xbox 360 controller by any chance?

Looks absolutely fantastic. I ADORE the two videos GoG put up, the voice over artist is just fantastic, made me laugh so many times.

I'll check out some let's plays and I think I'll jump in and get this. Even though there might be a summer sale soon, I doubt recent titles would be on sale.

Tried to go to their website www.simpleplanes.com but it always times out :O [EDIT. Now up again] also I was reading a review and it mentions a manual but GoG does not mention a manual. I hope this is not an occasion where there is a manual and GoG do not upload it ?

Anyone here bought it ? Is there a manual ?

[UPDATE: The website search does not seem to find anything I type, even existing planes]

I'm not sure.
Was wondering if key rebind is there

Being left handed I don't use WASD or QEZXC etc, I need all those rebound to the other side of the keyboard like up down left right and right shift, control, and ,./;' etc

Does Simple Planes allow this ? I've been bitten before by things like this so can anyone confirm rebind is there *and* I can rebind CTRL, Shift etc ?

Thanks in advance
this was appealing to me before the hilarious trailer and flying toaster shooting bacon

that was BEFORE, the flying toaster shooting bacon.

Marioface5: There are races, combat stuff, and challenges to play through, as well as the sandbox. In the sandbox, there are three modes: "Build and Fly" (basically the normal sandbox), "Dogfight", and "Race Against Opponents". The latter two modes are against AI, since there's no multiplayer. In the Build and Fly sandbox, you can spawn AI planes (though when I've tried it I have no idea where they spawn, and have never seen them) and start from various locations. There's a selection of default locations, but you can also discover new locations, which could be a good exploration goal. You can also start at custom-set locations.

I hope that helps!
Can you actually discover anything interesting while exploring the world? As I said in my previous comment, the world looks rather empty, judging by the screenshots and trailer. If there's tons of interesting landmarks and "Easter eggs" then exploration could be pretty fun.

And do you have access to all of the vehicle parts right from the start, or do you have to find them, or win them via challenges?
Does SimplePlanes have a windowed mode?
Seeing the videos, the question for me is;) does this game feature narration by Dave Lamb?
cool
not my type of game unfortunately ...

i see 3 new games (not my type of games) these have almost little to no votes... ?

Simple Planes 13 votes
Momodora under the moonlight : 15 votes
Lumo 1 vote

i can understand about Lumo II it has 10K votes :D
I dont see omnibus with votes?
if you add the secret files votes together its around 500 or more votes cause there are 4 games
secretfiles 1 already has 183 votes thats even more then simple plane, momodora and lumo together

I assume that the major decision if and when a game may arrive depends mostly if the devs/publisher are willing to release it DRm free ? cause when comparing votes , there are many games that have > 1000 votes and still arent here...

I know some games will never come like nelly cootalot, and i understand that so i wont mention the game :D
But i havent read anything about Secret Files not having a chance to arrive, so i am still hoping :D
Can somebody show me a topic or a answer from staff that shows the secret files will never come , this would make it easier on me cause then i wont have to look if they ever arrive here and i wont ask about it again, but since i dont hear anything i assume there's a chance the game might arrive...

I can't answer the first question since I haven't done much exploring yet. You do start with all parts unlocked though, at least as far as I can tell. There's also mod support for more parts.

eiii: The model graphics seem to be very basic for a game from 2015. It still requires 512 MB of VRAM and even recommends 1 GB?
avatar
mistermumbles: Probably a Unity game. That would explain that.
Shouldn't the game come with a Linux version then? :P
