Is this version includes the missing hauntings?

macrodeath: This is a independent game, with original story line. There are some references between most Silent Hill games, but are completely original stories. Only the first and third game have a direct link between them.
avatar
Garugo: 1 and 3 are directly related, 2 is its own thing, and 4 is independent with just a couple of non-plot links to 2. You are good to go if this is your first Silent Hill game.

I will say that 4 took a turn from the previous entries with some mechanics, controls, and how inventory works, though.
Sounds really good, thank you for replies!

i'm sure they are waiting for Halloween to put them up, it would be odd to not have 2 and 3 but only 4.

Plus 2 has a lot of MAJOR problems with pc and there is a lot of fixes to apply to it and such so maybe that is why? but you can look it up, there is a project from a few people that actually got the game running right on windows 10 without issues and fixed SOOOO many bugs with the original pc port of the game to match if not look better then then PS2 and Xbox original version.

never has been/will be a cooler pc gaming website than GOG, you guys rock hard :::)
Oddly this was the first Silent Hill game I played to the end, and even though it has some weird mechanics and ramps up the difficulty towards the end, it is still one of my favorites in the series. And I only got the semi good ending.

The soundtrack is awesome.
Has Hell frrozen over or what?

IN ... STA ... BUY!!!
What the HELL?!?

Arthandas: They're not identical if you're playing in 2560x1440:) What about the cutscenes? They were previously locked to 15 fps.
As for the hauntings, I'm talking about these:

Croyzers: Apologies, yes you are right - it must have a widescreen patch applied to it! I've just tested the original cd and that only used 4:3 aspect ratio. There is a tool called dxcfg installed too - which seems to be a wrapper for old direct x. You can pick screen modes, anti aliasing etc. I was even able to pick a supersampled screenmode

Not sure about the cutscenes - but they do seem to be 30fps (but that could be placebo)

Supposed to be working just now (!!) but will check out the haunting
The cutscenes are done at 30 according to PC gaming wiki. Also if you use widescreen through the wrapper the screen will be stretched. You can use either a widescreen patch or letter box it so that you will get black bars at the left and right sides of the screen.
Roast my chestnuts & deep-fry some Brussels while yer at it.

Been enjoying the first three on consoles since the Martini Malaise blew in.

Frustrated by the ghosts or what-have-yous at the time, needed one of those cheat disks just to finish it, but stacks & stacks of psychermalogical drama going on. Really good fun.

Congratulations GOGCOM.

Off to watch the Twitch streams now :)

Better than Silent Hill 2? It is the only one I played and in my opinion it was great.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Didn't the HD version of SH2 butcher the game by re-writing some of its code and thus greatly changing some of its segments? I recall watching some videos about that years ago, but my memory is a bit hazy as to which SH game it affects. I think it was 2 though?

Why don't they release the original, non-HD version of 2?

And also, why don't they release part 1?
avatar
Garugo: Kind of, the source code for 2 and 3 were lost so the devs were handed outdated code and had to essentially re-finish the game and that's why there's all the discrepancies between the originals and the HD release. I don't see why they couldn't just release 2 and 3 with data from the original pressed discs, though... and work in a no-cd patch or something.

As for SH1, there was never a PC port as far as I'm aware, so that'd have to be worked out by Konami or some other dev company.
I seem to recall there was a decent illegitimate PC version of SH 1 made by some fans. It was basically a wrapper of a PS image and PSXe bundled in to a tidy pre-configured windows executable. It is still floating around. This would probably be the only Konami and GOG could make the original available on PC. Short of Konami making a remake similar to the way Capcom has done with Resident Evil.

Oh believe me, I know all about screen stretching :( I run a 3440x1440 monitor (21:9) and hate it when a 16:9 screen is stretched out.

Along with the directX wrapper, there is also a resolution picker within the game too - and this lists 16:9 screenmodes (up to 3840x2160) and funnily enough only lists one 4:3 aspect - 640x480. On the original cd, none of the 16:9 screenmodes were available

When I pick a 4:3 resolution in the wrapper, and a 16:9 resolution in the game, it actually display its widescreen but with black bars at the top + bottom to compensate.

So yeah, I thkn this version of SH4 has been patched to run at 16:9. All the circles look fine at 16:9. It has been years since I played the cd version though. But none of the 4:3 to 16:9 stretching is there

Realy sorry, but I'm a dad with 2 kids, so won't have much time to much testing until tonight :( I could be wrong about the aspect ratios.
