Just a bad hair day.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, the cheeky platformer/metroidvania where the purple-haired genie gets rubbed the wrong way, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Shantae is not having the best of days. She has lost her genie powers and her blissful bubble bath just got rudely interrupted. Oh and it seems like she'll also have to join forces with her arch-nemesis, the feisty pirate mistress Risky Boots, in order to save the land from an evil curse. Great, just great. At least she still has her audacious belly-dancing moves and her lethally fabulous coif to help her get through the day. And eliminate the man-eating beasties.

But being a pirate turns out to also have some cool advantages, as Shantae can now use more than her hair-whips to dispose of enemies and traverse the treacherous levels. All these new weapons and moves will soon come in handy, because the place is teeming with monsters, traps, and bosses who didn't get the memo about the overconsumption of carbs. There is also a diverse cast of colourful characters to interact with, and among the frenetic platforming and the relentless fighting, Shantae is determined to have a good time, while saving the land and getting back her mojo. Even if that requires an uneasy alliance with, like, the most untrustworthy pirate ever.

Wipe out pesky monsters and scary bosses with your hair-whips, and rebottle your missing magic powers in Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until March 4, 10:59 AM GMT.

gibbeynator: You know the original game is a Gameboy game, right? It'll never come here, Nintendo would never allow it.
I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. There's always the possibility for an "enhanced" remake or port of the original game at sometime in the future.
I wish the game wouldn´t have that 50% discount...I´d still have my 10€. :P

I´ve bought far too omany games in the last 3 weeks. xD
"Ooooh, only 15 bucks and there, only 30 instead of 80... " Thats been me for quite some time now. :`)

I loved the first game and bought it instantly when it came here. Would have done the same thing with this one, but unfortunately this is regionally priced (with higher price points than the base price).

What happened, GOG? When you introduced regional pricing, you said you'll only have to do it for some selected AA+ games. Now (about two years later) almost every indie game that arrives here is regionally priced, while we are still waiting for the promised AA+ games. And it seems you're also no longer try to convince developers and publishers to use flat pricing (or at least only a discount for some selected regions). Even the ones that were always fine with flat pricing bring their new games regionally priced here now.

We have Risen 1-3, SR 2,3, Darksiders 1,2... so at least some AA games got here. Don't you get fair price package when checking out?

Fine release, but the leap in price in comparison to it's predecessor seems a bit high to me.

Ok, we got very few AA+ games and funny enough some of them are not even regionally priced.

About the fair price package: Yes, I would get it and it's nice that GOG offers this service. But it's only GOG's loss (they pay the difference out of their own pocket) and buying the regionally priced games would still send the signal that I support an abitrary and unfair pricing model. It's not about the money, it's about principles (that GOG once shared). But I think we already discussed that in the past.
I read that the previous Shantae games are quite clunky.
Could I just play this sequel or the story\setting woudn't make any sense? (if it even matters, lol)

The Shantae games normally have enough disposition in the opening stages to get you up to speed on the story and characters.

Lol, lots of advices from you today XD
Thanks and another +1
Question for the GOG staff: Why is "Shantae and the Pirate's Curse" not featured on the front page? Sure, it's listed among the headlines, and shuffled off onto the side with the weekly staff picks, but it doesn't seem to have a title card for the "What's new" box. In fact, I still see the same games from last week appearing in the main window (Masters of Orion, Superhot, Stardew Valley, etc.)

*EDIT: Not trying to sound snarky or rude, but I really enjoy this game and I just want to see it get the same promotion that other games receive. Also, I'm just genuinely curious if the front page hasn't been updated yet. Regardless, thanks for the nice release! :D
