Shadow Watch, a stunningly stylized tactical classic, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com

There's a special, timeless aesthetic to Shadow Watch. It stands out from the crowd, there's no doubt about that - but it also looks as good as any modern-day release. For a 15 year old game, that's a nothing short of a feat.

Dive into a comic-book world of interrogation and espionage in Shadow Watch - tactical turn-based gameplay in the spirit of X-Com and the gang, but it aims to keep things simple and varied (rather than in-depth and confounding). The familiar strategy layer is just as rewarding as ever, but it's never unnecessarily complicated and always easy to learn. Still, the real meat is in the fact that tactics are just one part of the experience. Before setting out on your mission you'll have to aptly prepare your team, as well as scout for intelligence, and interrogate your contacts. Your story and the flow of the game will rely on who you talk to, what you get out of them - and what you decide to do with the information.

A special shoutout to awalterj who relentlessly wears the Shadow Watch avatar. You weren't able to grab the game while here, so we thought it's high time to put it on the GOG.com shelf!

Watch your step in Shadow Watch, available DRM-free on GOG.com

Stream watch:

Tune in to Twitch.tv/GOGcom tonight for a live showing of this tactical classic in action! ScreamingJoypad is showing it off starting 8pm GMT (10pm CEST, 4pm EDT, 1pm PDT).
I don't believe it. Two days ago I talked with my colleagues about turn based tactical games and mentioned Shadow Watch and how I've always wanted to play it but never got my hands on it despite actively looking for it. It was the first time I even thought about it in years. And here it is. :D

Also while we were talking about it I voted for it on the wishlist. So obviously it's my vote that made it happen. You guys better thank me for it!
This is a game I always wanted to try out, but for one reason or another never actually managed to buy anywhere. Now I can finally put that itch to rest.

ghg is a nasty game that refuses to run on 64bit not even in 32 bit on win7
xp runs it but the graphics are in software and ugly

so that be a challenge to get it working and with the decent engines cause they look like crap in the software mode

gorky17 looks also bad in software mode but thats the way it has to be i guess doesnt seem to be a way to see the original graphics.

so having ghg with original graphics mode would be a big task to complete.
a challenge i guess.

Looks pretty interesting. Did anyone try it in Wine? The only report about it is ancient and it's rated as "garbage":

IAmSinistar: I knew this whole thing would play out this way regardless of what I posted, which is why I hesitated to even start down this track. We filter things through our own preconceptions, and if that's how you see things, fine. I see them differently.

Whenever a person raises a good point in an internet discussion, it hardly ever convinces the other party on the error of their ways. (I think our human brains are rigged to work like that... some more than others. Whatever.)

BUT that doesn't mean it's a wasted effort! Sometimes that point ends up enlightening a third party which you weren't ever intending to reach but somehow reads the debate and sees sense in one poster's view. Should a smart man with a good point keep it to himself then?
GOG has been killing my budget in the last few months with some really great acquisitions that took me by surprise.

I already have the complete boxed copy of Shadow Watch, along with the strategy guide, but that won't stop me from buying. In fact, 90% of my GOG collection is games I already have boxed copies of, but I also love having a hassle-free version of each of those games, and GOG's reasonable pricing makes it irresistible.

I've never been a fan of Tom Clancy. Not my style of writing (the relentless patriotism really wears on me), and the movies based on his book have been hit-or-miss at best, for the same reason. But damn. I do really like many of the PC games with his name attached. And I think that's because those games don't have much to do with his books, and simply have some good game developers. In other words, the games are 'his' in name alone.
This one wants to be on my wishlist.... and I won't resist. ^^

I guess this design is timeless. Wise decision of Red Storm.

I agree.
While my mind has never "instantly" been changed by an internet debate, I have read some very articulate posts by people with thoughts different than mine, and sometimes, over time, I have at least come around to understanding where the opposing posters are coming from. Which in turn can cause me to take their point of view more into account when I make my next post. And in rare occasion, my mind has been changed with enough civil discussion.

Thoughtful, civil discussion is never wasted. This thread is a good example of that. I've enjoyed reading the posts by each and every one of you.

It definitely isn't. As long as the debaters don't start disrespecting each other, having them disagree is actually a good thing for society as a whole.
You mentioned something important too about a personal opinion changing over time. Usually, a complicated issue must be analyzed through various angles and consider several examples before reaching a final verdict and that simply can't be done in the heat of an internet argument. That's part of the reason why a debater is seldom convinced on the spot that he wasn't right to begin with.

I edited this part out because it was confusing whether I was agreeing with your first or second sentences from the last paragraph. Sorry about that.

Sometimes disagreeing for arguments sake can be counterproductive.
But yes i see what you mean.
Congrats to awalterj and everyone else who wanted Shadow Watch =)
Oh, wow. I remember having this on a gaming client I had a while ago around 2008 or so. Can't remember for the life of me what it was called "game..." something. Anyway, I remember this being one of the games I tinkered with, though I didn't really play it too much. Will wishlist this for after I get some of the other games I'm looking forward to.
Never heard of this game before but it looks cool. :)
