Shadow Watch, a stunningly stylized tactical classic, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com

There's a special, timeless aesthetic to Shadow Watch. It stands out from the crowd, there's no doubt about that - but it also looks as good as any modern-day release. For a 15 year old game, that's a nothing short of a feat.

Dive into a comic-book world of interrogation and espionage in Shadow Watch - tactical turn-based gameplay in the spirit of X-Com and the gang, but it aims to keep things simple and varied (rather than in-depth and confounding). The familiar strategy layer is just as rewarding as ever, but it's never unnecessarily complicated and always easy to learn. Still, the real meat is in the fact that tactics are just one part of the experience. Before setting out on your mission you'll have to aptly prepare your team, as well as scout for intelligence, and interrogate your contacts. Your story and the flow of the game will rely on who you talk to, what you get out of them - and what you decide to do with the information.

A special shoutout to awalterj who relentlessly wears the Shadow Watch avatar. You weren't able to grab the game while here, so we thought it's high time to put it on the GOG.com shelf!

I too had never heard of this game, but something like xcom? I'm not sure how I missed it since I have been an xcom fan since I originally got my microprose boxed copy. I'll read up some more on it and I'm sure I'll have to purchase it soon.
Oh, the name of this one rang no bells in my head but from screenshots I instantly remembered this one. I read several articles in mags aout it and I always thought it looked quite good.

I wonder why it is so forgotten.

Impaler26: So does this play like the X-COM games? Wishlisted for now, might grab it in a future sale.
Well, apart that both are turn based tactical games, not really. If I remember correctly, the game is a branching campaign of tactical missions.

You have 6 very specialized preset characters (1 commando, 1 big guy with a shotgun, 1 electronics specialist, 1 ninja, 1 sniper, 1 grenadier), with a predetermined set of abilities and equipment, but you unlock new abilities/equip for your commandos with experience. For example, the sniper cannot move and fire in the same turn until you unlock the "fire on the move" ability for her, the commando gets a silencer for his gun...

Some missions are stealth, other are direct combat, and some of the choices you make will impact what new missions are available next.

Not Game of the Year material, but a nice game, and I'm glad I'll have the opportunity to play it again :)

I better get Doom 3 for free if/when it gets here :P
I always wanted to try this game after I found it on Mobygames after searching information about Shadow Company I believe (or someone here might have mentioned it too). Good price too.

Haha
never heard of it. Good art design though.
Ah! Turn based tactical strategy! Yes please :)

Wishlisted. Will buy when I catch up on my games.
OMG! As soon as I get home I'm buying this. This was one of the games that if ever release here would be instant buy for me.

AWESOME GOG!
Looks very nice, not too dated and so on, like with so many 2D games of that time!
Anything possible to enable widescreen support @Judas? (seems pretty much an unknown game, not even an entry on WSGF...)
add my... "how did I miss this one"... looks right up my alley. Not sure why I've never heard of it before.

IAmSinistar: Like the art style more than that of Frozen Synapse. Sounds like a better story, too, more fleshed out. Definitely one to get at some point.
It's pure Tom Clancy though so expect much might-is-right, west-is-best type jingoism! (RIP Tom though - cool for any author to be so into making computer games too)
I approve of this release. Now tell those bastards at Ubi that I want the new Rayman game .

Instant buy if it's ever on GOG. Extremely cool tactical game with wonderful stylish hand drawn graphics. This would have WAY more votes if people actually knew about the game in the first place."

If Ubisoft is all up for getting more old games here, you should look into these games:
