TZODnmr2k5: ATTN: If you own the original, BACK IT UP before buying/installing this game so you can at least have the original as well, even if it's installed already on your PC!

Snagging this as I'm an unrepentant collector!

timppu: Are you suggesting the original will disappear from the library, if you buy the remaster?

I would be surprised if that happened, but I guess you never know...
I don't think that will happen. At least not for a long time.
The video game is out of catalogue which means that users who didn't have it in their personal collection can no longer purchase it from the GOG shop. But from that to it being removed for good... it's a bit crazy. Maybe in time it will happen. Maybe it won't. The same thing happened with the original Mark of the Ninja video game that was replaced by Mark of the Ninja: Remastered. And in my library I keep both versions.

SKYRIM!1!!

edit: admittedly, i would love to have skyrim here but i don't pop into every new release thread and cry and froth at the mouth about the lack of skyrims on gog.

fortune_p_dawg: are there mods that add modern controller support, add environmental shadows and lighting effects, and add the console exclusive / new content to the pc version? because that's what this remaster does. i'm not being facetious, i honestly don't know as i almost never use mods.
Many of the solutions that companies in the video game industry are implementing today are the result of small users from the community who put their hand in, solve serious problems (bugfixes), add new features and compatibilities to a video game that in some cases has been forgotten by its original developers or publishers. Proof of that, this same developer. And he is not the only one within the community at large...

I think this remaster is great... And I am familiar with the work of this studio (Night Dive Studios) since the project Doom 64 to PC (and I'm not talking about the port they made for Steam). No disrespect, but... there were already people working on the video game (Shadow Man) from the MOD community. And without earning a single cent for it.

Yeah, as that's what happened with several remastered titles, though I hope I'm wrong, it's good to back it up just in case!

Yeah, I hope you're right, although many offline installers WERE written over and taken down from our libraries!

so maybe they should have purchased the rights to release the remaster before nightdive snapped them up? or maybe they weren't doing it for the money? i don't know what the correct answer to that dilemma is.

don't get me wrong... i think it's great there are talented users out there who are improving games all the time. and while i think it's incredibly dumb for gog to take away an avenue to procure the original, it doesn't make me want a tight, all-in-one remaster any less.

I don't think I have ever lost an old version of a game out of my library. Either the Dev includes an older version as a goodie, in some cases including an extra copy of the original in addition to the one you already had - eg. Crystal Caves. Otherwise your old version gets renamed as "legacy" --eg. Bloodrayne. But that is just my experience. I am interested to seeing an example one being snatched out....

ShaunRoberts: Unlike beamdog they went to great lengths to make the game better, adding in content that was exclusive to console ports, making the controls less clunky, adding in cut content and generally making sure this is the definitive version of the game.

Can we not simply appreciate that one remaster has come around without 50 years of buggery?
avatar
Lifthrasil: Yes, sure. They have done actual work on that remaster and they are way better than Beamdog. But that doesn't change the different treatment of Steam customers and GOG customers. Steam customers have the choice between the original and the remaster. GOG customers have to get the (more expensive) remaster if they want the original.

My critique was more aimed at GOG than at Nightdive. If Steam can continue to offer the original, why can't GOG?
Because the Steam edition doesn't include the original? And Steam has stopped selling the original

Notice: At the request of the publisher, Shadow Man is no longer available for sale on Steam.

I haven't had any originals removed when a separate remaster was released. The only ones that replaced the originals were free upgrades, which this obviously isn't, and even those that did release free upgrades, many of them offered the original as a downloadable goodie.
Well that's good news anyways, at least we're getting the Over Thirties Achievements. It's been ages since I was thirty, any re-enactment of lost youth is appreciated.

This first Shadow Man is one of my fave titles since the days of the N64. Loving the Redd Peppers vocals :)

...and getting Skyrim on gog just puts the mightiest cherry on the top!

Well done gog

Wait, Skyrim was confirmed to end up here, or is this just wishful thinking (and we are thinking alike in that case :))?
Ah yes, no though, but, according to Fortune_p_dawg, there is Skyrim!11

Can't quite find the release thread for some reason, errrm...
I don't know about other countries but in Poland I can't buy original version on Steam. I'm missing something or this whole "Steam can have original why not GOG" just not true?
