IronArcturus: Does it work on Windows 7?
It looks like it does. GOG have simply stopped listing W7 compatibility on recently released DX11 games so they won't have to "support" it. Personally I think it's a mistake to falsely claim a game needs W10 as a "minimum" if it clearly runs fine on W7-8. All that does it reduce sales / increase pre-sales customer service queries. Minimum should be what the game actually runs on (W7), and recommended should be what they want it to run on / officially support (W10), otherwise it's pointless to even have two separate OS columns anymore if one is deliberately inaccurate.

Edit: And here's another "bump" for GOG + Croteam to consider selling The Talos Principle here. Probably their one Overwhelmingly Positive big title I'd insta-buy if it came here.

60% and dropping.

Will this hit >50% before the day is over? Place your bets!

I bet 40% and that Croteam turn epic exclusive for their next title.
Cool that they released it here day one, but the game looks like trash in every video I've watched. Shame. A team like Croteam really should be going for a smaller budget and scope that nails the concept, rather than this pretend AAA stuff that turns out broken and unpolished.

Thanks for the info!
Eh, count me to the group of people who will buy this game only after release of SS2 and SS3 here :P

I can live without HD remakes of first game (or rather first games :P), but lack of 2nd and 3rd game here is quite annoying.

I can't even tell how much I would like to buy here fully working (without annoying bug from the steam version) Serious Sam 2.

At this moment I'm not very concerned with reviews for SS4, mostly due to the fact that probably game will have some patches during next months (hopefully :P), secondly - SS3 also had (has?) not very positive opinion, yet I've enjoyed playing in the Steam version. Not as much as with SS1 and SS2, but still.

Vythonaut: Well, 2021 is coming fast; woe to us who still cling on outdated hardware. :)
I wonder if my iBook G3 running Mac OS X 10.1 will support this game. My Macintosh Classic needs some new capacitors, so I can't test on that one at the moment.

rjbuffchix: Hard pass. I don't trust Croteam based on their treatment of GOG users so far. I can't find the topic but I believed it was discussed on this forum that the Serious Sam First Encounter game that is here is out of date compared to others? If this is untrue please forgive me, but in any case I am glad I got it free when it was on giveaway here.
Right, so been playing this for a couple of hours - done the first three areas. Here is some thoughts:
Its 40gb so a sizable download.
It takes a while to install - quite a while even on fast ssd.
It booted up fine, setup options I would expect and has key setup fine.
It is fast, very fast (or I am old).
It throws you right in there, fast action, lots of enemies, really feels frantic.
I have not encountered any major bugs, texture popping is a problem, as is some frame skipping, probably need patching at some point.
Graphically it is ok, I was suprised it doesn't look far better considering the size and install time. Someone above mentioned sky boxes, TBH if you have enough time to look at the sky your not playing it right! The actual areas are reasonably detailed and nice.

The bad:
The NPC's, I don't know who thought it was necessary to add other characters in, ok Hellfire for Sam to get around, the rest are just stereotypical (and of course there to add diversity which is the buzzword). Its a shame as Sam is nice and simple point gun shoot everything, but this feels a bit like they wanted to include some of Left For Dead. Anyways, you can ignore it mostly.
Sam is not voiced the same as before, sounds different. Also not as funny which is a shame.

Otherwise, I am currently enjoying it. Will play some more over the next few days and put a full reveiw in the game page. Would I buy again, maybe not with the lack of 2 and 3 and the missing patches on TFE and TSE, but mmmm.
Worth noting that the only negative review on GOG right now starts with, "Haven't played but watched all the reviews and gameplay I could find."

Your post is as helpful as a review, thank you for this. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Hmmm. I wish certain developers and publishers made it easier to support them.

Mafwek: I don't need to like or trust Gman, I only need to see first two minutes of review to know 80% of what I need to know about this game.
avatar
David9855: At least he's honest with this review and hasn't let nostalgia cloud his sense, also as someone else who has already reviewed the product pointed out

Literal sky wallpapers instead of fully dynamic skyboxes with volumetric clouds.
Never said I don't like or trust Gman. I don't like or trust any human being, not just Gman in particular. I said I only needed to watch first couple of minutes of his review to know what I need about this game (meaning - it's trash).

Anime-BlackWolf: Bring the missing other titles of the series here. If not: not interrested. Sorry GOG.
Serious Sam First and Second Encounter still on GOG.

Yes, but we are still missing SS2 and SSE3 BFE.

True. Didn't know if people knew they were even on here.

Been playing for about 8 hours now and I agree. Having fun with it. I have no idea what the people's main complaints are, but so far, it played without crashes. There are some annoying sound bugs where I had to restart to fix them but that's about it. The most annoying issue are indeed the frame skips, especially in cutscenes (the intro cutscene was horribly choppy) and when a bigger one occurs, it also loses audio for a few seconds before the frames catch up.

As far as gameplay goes, the core (gunplay) is very fun. Playing on Serious and having a blast. The amount of NPCs does feel very weird, especially the side quests. "You know, I'm busy fighting for the survival of Earth but sure, I will go check up on your daughter". "Or you, crazy guy deathly afraid of worms, sure I'll get you worm poison, we have time :)".

The game is very graphically demanding. Either due to poor optimization or something else, but it gives my 1080ti the run for its money. The first game that makes me feel like a 1080ti is not enough.

My biggest gameplay gripe so far are the goddamn laser sights on enemy snipers. Feels like playing with training wheels. Would love an option to disable them.

Not sure if I like Serious Sam 3 or 4 better. I really liked 3, but I will reserve my final verdict until after I've finished 4.

EDIT:
Never mind the sound issue I mentioned. Turns out it was due to a bugged NPC that was constantly mumbling to himself even when I was miles away from him, which kept lowering the audio volume for the duration of his voice lines, then went back up to normal volume and this kept repeating indefinitely. So not a general audio bug, but just a looping NPC.
