Crouching ruler, hidden diplomat.

Sengoku, a strategic overlook on the powerstruggles within feudal Japan, now DRM-free on GOG.com with a launch discount of 50%.

The great Emperor, direct descendant of the goddess and supreme ruler of the land of the Rising Sun, no longer commands the respect of his lords. As the door to your private chambers slides back into place, you begin to unfold the newly-received parchment which speaks of seizing opportunities and reaping mutual benefits. You let the message burn, the smell mingling with incense mid-air, carrying with it your thoughts on the powerplays necessary to appoint a humble clan lord as Japan's sole ruler .

Sengoku is all about planning ahead and adjusting your strategy to best utilize any newly-formed alliances or recently-discovered betrayals that threaten to derail your steady rise to power. You will first need to seize control of your clan and secure your stronghold before setting out to claim the throne of the entire Empire, being always mindful of the religious factions operating in the background. A silver tongue, a strong army and a competent heir to carry on your conquering legacy are your primary concerns as you negotiate, double-cross or violently impose your rule over 16th century Japan and become the supreme leader of the land of the Rising Sun.

Use subterfuge and military strength to become feudal Japan's new ruler in Sengoku, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Backstab it with a 50% discount that will last until January 10th, 1:59 PM GMT.

Thanks for the heads up, Tb!
Some time ago I've actually decided to become a manly man (after having twins + 30yrs old...) and dug into Slitherine games for good, since they make games for M-E-N :P
Also, I'm in love with Dominions IV and CK II. Sengoku or Hearts of Iron (have played some) should be next
But Qvadriga is, by far, one of the coolest games there is. Alea Jacta Est, Normandie, Bulge, too.
Their games are huge, well detailed, historically accurate and, well, they're awesome.
Never in my whole experience I thought I'd be playing these but hey, there comes a time.

But the sad part is that games such as these require something folks my age, sometimes, lack: proper time to dig into the learning curve and even more to master.

C ya!

ps: the same overly manly man bought Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star the other day. Go figure :P

towerbooks3192: High five my hatoful bf bro! I actually found out about matrix/slitherine when someone mentioned about distant worlds then bam! I dove in Decisive Campaigns and wargaming stuff. I just had my physical copy of decisive campaigns: Barbarossa arrived yesterday. I have a fair bit of games off matrix/slitherine and yes they are super hard core. I still go to paradox for my what-ifs though but I dive in to slitherine for my WW2 fill be it be as simple as Panzer Corps, middle with Decisive Campaigns series, advanced with War in The east or wizard level with CMANO.
You seem so to be a good person to ask this.

Do you know of a game with the Highway to the Reich engine that works on windows 10? Or a similar game?
It's super hard to find something that simulates you playing as a commander that way.

Finding a wargame that simulates you playing a commander in that way is super hard to find.
Or it was at least. I've been out of touch with the wargaming genre for a couple years.

Isnt this one of paradoxes better games? (seem to recall a few ppl mentioned this in the past)

Highway to reich? Unfortunately I am not familiar with that. Did a quick google and said it is a boardgame? Only boardgame I know off the slitherine lineup that has a digital/physical version is world in flames. Never had enough cash to get it though. The physical copy is doable at around $300 but I don't wanna pay additional $150 just to have it shipped by USPS.

Here's a link. http://www.matrixgames.com/products/241/details/Highway.to.the.Reich

I miss playing games with that engine a lot since moving to windows 10.

Edit: What? I just checked Panther Games site and I'm not sure but it looks like they've updated their games. Don't trust something saying win7+ as a system requirement with windows 10 compatibility though.

This I'd like to know as well. Not the best rating yet, but I like the Japanese setting. It's more interesting to me than Europe for the umpteenth time.

It's nice to see another Paradox game here. Somehow I like them all, even though they are similar in game mechanics.

It would also be very nice to have Romance of the Three Kingdoms series here.

I played this shortly after it came out and enjoyed it very much, probably put about 80 hours into it. I would give it 4 stars...mostly because Crusader Kings 2 is Sengoku super-charged edition, and exceeds it in many ways. Still Sengoku is a fun game and if you like these sort of games and Japan, then I'd so go for it. I wasn't disappointed.

Sounds good, thanks! A game doesn't always have to have all features of its successors. Sometimes less is more to me, especially when time is scarce or there's a lot going on in RL.

vicklemos: Can definitely write something I've read some time ago on the *sigh* steam forums... I mean, kids dig Civilization, boys dig Crusader Kings, Sengoku... while MEN dig DOMINIONS!
Dominions seems expensive for such an "old" game. Even for new ones!
Is there any chance that it will show up in GOG one day?
Do you know if it is DRM'ed? I am curious, but I hesitate a lot.

Got it from gift during a past steam sale, my dear tuga.
Not expensive at the time, I must add; 60% off, 1 year ago.
Got me hooked (I've read almost the entire manual - I work for the government so there's pleeenty of time :P) and yes, there's only one thing more hardcore-ish than Dominions, that I can add: life itself :P
Not sure if drm-ed or not!

You won't find anything new from Panther at Slitherine/Matrix. They're now operating through Lock n' Load Publishing. http://store.lnlpublishing.com/panther-games

It's the least expensive game I've ever bought if you factor in how much I've played it. If you like really complex turnbased fantasy strategy games you get a ridiculous amount of playtime for that price.

The two creators does not like to change much so they pick a distribution way and stick to it. They seem comfortable with steam so I'd say chances are low for it to get here unfortunately. I'd probably buy it again if it came here.

As far as I can remember the DRM consist of a serial number.

For some reason I thought this was already up on GOG.. *shrugs*. Unfortunatly while it is one of Paradox's better titles, its also nowadays feels like a weaker Crusader Kings 2 version.
So I guess we should wait for CK2 and EU4 a little longer. :)

I understand, dear "zuca". The problem is that I would like to have that luxury of time.

I understand. However, I saw that Dominions 3 at Desura seems to cost €119, while the newer version shows up at €125. Now that requires a lot of dedication to make up for the investment. Steam lists more reasonable prices, so I don't know what is up with Desura.

Anyway, I'll have to look at some videos and try out the demos.
