Age of Pirates II

Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, a swashbuckling RPG, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Formerly known as Age of Pirates II, City of Abandoned Ships continues the Sea Dogs tradition of freedom and wide-open swashbuckling adventure.

Thrown into a life of opportunity, you just have to learn to take it. Should you command and pillage the game's many ships as a cutlass-swinging, shanty-singing buccaneer, or build a network of trade and profit to reap the rewards of a merchant's life? Perhaps you'd rather seek treasure and fortune among the many secrets of the Caribbean Islands?

Like most things in City of Abandoned Ships, it's all up to you. The options are as countless as the rewards.

Thank you GOG!
Terrific release, and excellent price.

One of my 10 most wanted games (for GOG). It's because of nice surprises like this I have to visit GOG every day :)
Damn, I kind of want it...
I'm glad to see GOG bringing Akella games. I know its not guaranteed but will GOG give GOG versions for folks who have previous copies of the game like they do with some titles? Either way its great that these are getting a home on GOG.

Pirates Ahoy is the best site for all things pirate themed and Akella.

anothername: The Mod "Age of Pirates II: City of Abandoned Ships Combined Mods v. 1.8 " adds quite a few characters, including female ones, to choose from. I got that file from a site that went dark; while I'm sure its easily found I do not know a trustworthy link on top of my head so you have to search for yourself if interested.

I do not know how stable that mod is; just started the game myself.
I see someone mentioned GOF ERAS2 on the moddb page of the game .

Right now I use the one I mentioned and it does look stable. Took a peek at the other mods and some appear to be followups? Or variations? Not sure which one I should go with. Is there one mod to rule them all?

Also I heard that game has some really REALLY lousy level scaling as it plays on; Vanilla Oblivion bad like. I guess mods help here too?
The GOF mod (I don't know about the GOF ERAS2) includes the Combined Mod 3.2

GoF and Combined Mod are definitely the way to go. I have to admit, I've never played ERAS2 and don't really know anything about it. What I will tell you is that GoF and Combined Mod are done by the guys at PiratesAhoy!, which do absolutely fantastic work on these games. They have been doing mods since the Build Mod for Pirates of the Caribbean, which is amazing. I followed that since they started it and it's a masterpiece. The GoF and Combined mod fix most of the bugs these games are famous for, upgrade the graphics and performance and such, and add tons of ships, characters, locations, and even quest lines. Just visit http://www.piratesahoy.net/ , it's the ultimate source for the series. PoTC came out in 2003 and is part of this series, I think they started working on the Build Mod in 2004 and have been working with the engine ever since. If I'm not mistaken, they are doing their own game, or have something to do with the Hearts of Oak game (http://www.indiedb.com/games/hearts-of-oak).

From what I understand, the Eras 2 mod is more of a realistic mod adding ships and such from that era. The standard mod adds most or all of the same content, but also has the Pirates of the Caribbean ships and all. I guess the CM Eras 2 is more for a non-fiction experience.

Great, thanks. Something for the weekend to try :)

Don't mind if it gets a bit freaky; loved when I got the Dutchman in SD2 :D
Do we have an expert here who can tell me how to get the correct aspectratio for my 32 inch 16:9 monitor with widescreen resolution 2560 x 1440?

I changed already the resolution in the engine.ini file from the game to mine because the config.exe is limited to 1600 x 1200 but couldn´t find out where to change the aspectratio. I read on Amazon that this can be done in the system.ini file but i have no idea how and the reviewer didn´t explain more.

As the game was original made for 4:3 screeners, i only have the correct aspectratio till a resolution of 1920 x 1440 but then i have to accept black bars.

With my 2560 x 1440 i can play in fullscreen mode but then i have to accept that my feet and the rooftops are cutted of because of the wrong aspectratio.

Does someone of you know more than me about that?

This stuff always makes my head spin, because I know less about it than I'd like (or at least, less about how to successfully manipulate it to get the look I / someone else desires). But I've often been in luck because it hasn't been much of an issue for me.

BUT - does your monitor not have a magic button (an actual, physical button on the monitor) that sort of "forces" a proper ratio after you set your desired resolution?

Or have you tried that and you get weird stretching / washed out look? Also, I never know which one "works" right, but can you go to the driver tools for your GPU and try messing with the aspect ratio setting? I think there are options to force in game or to fill to screen and such.

Take a look at this guide:

1. My monitor doesn´t have a setting to correct the aspectratio and i´m looking for an ingame solution anyway.

2. I have the NVIDIA control panel but if i force games to fullscreen with it, i loose sharpness ingame.

Thanks for your reply but these are not my solutions.

Thanks for your guide which is absolutely my direction but i know this thread already because i´m a member of PiratesAhoy since many years. Problem is that even they couldn´t find a solution to correct the aspectratio for my 2560 x 1440 resolution. Lower ones are much easier but my 32 inch 16:9 is difficult.
