Niggles: Obvious question. How is the AI ?
Not that good. I've never played before and in my first game got just over half the score of "bot medium". Then I won the next three against "bot medium", "bot hard", and 4x"bot hard". There isn't a harder setting. In the last one, the second place opponent chose to attack a spot that I could defend (giving me the victory) when I suspect they could have attacked one that I couldn't defend (possibly I would have just won anyway at the next turn, although maybe not if the others also went after me). I do play strategy games some but I'm not all that good at them.
There is no manual; the Rules button in the game (under Options) just opens a browser trying to link to a pdf. My game system is offline and I don't think I typoed the URL but got a meta-404 error ("An Error Occurred While Attempting to Retrieve a Custom Error Document"). Hopefully GOG can fix this and include the rules with the game or at least as an extra. Sometimes it isn't obvious why things don't work (I think there might be a rule about crossing rivers near a tundra, although clicking the Riverwalk button showed an arrow at that crossing but the game wouldn't actually let me cross).
I didn't realize there is a DLC. It seems to just add two additional players, mostly pointless but obnoxious to charge extra for it. The UI has a number of problems, including that a bunch of important information is in mouse over text that doesn't appear right away, requiring me to take my hand off the mouse to keep it still enough to read it. I also noticed a minor animation issue twice in my four games.
All in all, while I don't think I'll ask for a refund, I am tempted to and regret the purchase. I will be avoiding Asmodee in the future.
