TomNuke: Ah, typical post from one of the resident negativity spreaders here on the forums.

Imagine getting so worked up over the mentioning of Galaxy being required for online co-op, and an exceptional remaster costing US$14...

This is a bit of AI upscaling?

nightcraw1er.488: So, did they add any content, no. Therefore it is a graphics update.
Is GOG Galaxy required for online features, yes.
Therefore nothing I have said is incorrect, or in fact negative. This is money for graphical update, AI up scaled or not.
Negative spreader, is that anyone who has anything bad to say about our precious GOGy friends?

As above, far better things to spend my money on, can just play the original if needed.
Nothing you said is incorrect? LOL. So are you just in denial and refuse to admit when you're wrong.

You came in immediately dumping on the game, complaining about Galaxy being required for Online Co-op, calling it a bit of AI upscaling which is totally incorrect, and complaining about the price (which is actually very fair, with previous owner loyalty discount).

See, it's fine to say something bad about GOG, point out issues or complaints, or criticize them when warranted, but the thing with you though is that's pretty much all you do. Anyone who browses these forums would have you tagged as a negativity spreader. There's a handful of your or so, where it's just negative post after negative post... You got crap like "DRM Free is dead" under your name, which is obviously not true, but you have it anyway.

I'm glad you have better things to spend your money on (or so you say). That's a good thing, so how about you do that then or maybe play some games.

Look, I replied nice and calmly to your post, and I explained my perfectly valid points, if you want to start name calling go ahead. This is nothing more than a graphical upgrade, with new galaxy requirements. If that’s whining all well and good. I will be alerting moderators to your offensive name calling.
Great game. I finished it many times in both single player and co-op. Does the GOG version support multiplayer with Steam users?

In case anyone got spooked: You can install (from the offline installer) and start the game just fine with your PC being blocked from the internet and galaxy turned off.

Online functions probably require to reconnect with the internet...

GalvanicQuas: they have censored a few textures
Now this interests me. Could you please specify?

nightcraw1er.488: £12 for a graphics update, wow. “ Please note: GOG GALAXY is required to access online features.” no mention of what these features are. Far better things to spend my money on.
If you watch videos like Digital Foundry's you'll see they did a TON of work to this, with all new textures and lighting pretty much everywhere. If that's not worth money to you then fine, but you can't act like it's a dumb cash-in.
So can anyone tell their experience from testing the gog version? Steam reviews are all over the place, with most of them focusing on the fact that the game runs like shit, and a solution for nvidia users is to thinker with the settings an vsync disabled, in order to force the game to reach 120 and 30 fps locked cutscenes.

I might bite the bullet solely due to the loyalty sale which is pretty big, but the lack of the bloodsucking dlc and no lan play is a turn off on my side.

Sure from what i've been reading on the Steam forums its:

Magazine cover featuring Shaundi has blurred breasts.

Marquee girl for 'Tits and Grits' restaurant no longer has one of her nipples slipping out of her cleavage.

Its been confirmed by someone that the Marquee girl has been changed from the original (they went and looked.)

It looks like a lot of effort has been put into this graphical overhaul. But it's still the same game. I would have preferred when the developers would have spent that effort to develop a good sequel instead...

TomNuke: Check out the video I linked above, and see what you think. Personally, I was in the same boat as you, but ended up really really loving this game, so this is a no brainer for me.
Judging from that video for me the graphic changes are a mixed bag. Higher resolution and sharper textures are a good improvement. But much more blurring, over the top effects and unnatural lighting makes it worse than the original.

Replacing the LAN co-op mode by an online Galaxy requirement definitely sucks and is a severe regression. But at least the original game is still available. And the release of the remaster hopefully will prevent it from getting Galaxy-fied...

Played for about an hour and so far it is pretty smooth, getting good FPS, cut scenes you can see the FPS dip but gameplay runs quite well.

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: Radeon RX Vega

Thanks. I always wonder why everyone sees it as necessary and go back and censor things when re-releasing them... I haven't played any Saints Row games yet, but I'll stick with the original when I do.

I'm just curious, do you guys really have friends coming over to your house with their windws 7 machines to play some random 10+ years old games via LAN?

LAN multiplayer is perhaps a bit of a misnomer in this day and age, however it implies the game can talk to other copies of itself without the need of a client or a centralized developer-hosted server.

This is essential for game preservation and for being able to enjoy the same kind of experience years later, since as much as companies like to think they will be around forever, along with the services they offer, this is certainly not how things will play out.

You can play LAN games over VPN (on Windows10 or even Linux/Wine) without a hitch and not have to host "LAN parties" like in the old days. To that end it is still a very relevant feature for most people.

In the interest of controlling the experience, adding DRM and/or collecting telemetry, more and more developers are only providing an online-only multiplayer experience.

As a better way to do it in the case of remasters, I can mention Majesty HD, the revamped version of Majesty, where the developers have simply hidden/deprecated the LAN multiplayer functionality of the original game. It can be restored with a configuration flag if you still want to have access to it, still works 100% and is cross-compatible with the original versions of the game.
