Haven't finished Hyperlight Drifter (which I have to start again anyway because of that stupid save management), so I'll pass this one at least for now (good thing it's RPriced anyway).

You hate it, but you don't speak for everyone else. While I'm not buying this game now or in a a near future, I can see myself playing it eventually. So don't try to dictate what games I (and obviously everyone else) should be allowed to buy based exclusively in your tastes.

TL;DR: You didn't like it, someone will. Just ignore the effing game.

This doesn't seem like the kind of chunky pixel art that usually attracts all the "SHARP CORNERS ON PIXELS MAKE EYES BLEED" haters. I do have to say that I don't find what's shown in the screenshots to be very good-looking at all, but, when seen in motion [Holy shit, there are animated .gifs below the fold on the game page!], I have to admit that it seems a lot clearer than other, more pixelated styles.
If I had to describe the visuals of this game to someone, I probably wouldn't even use the term "pixel art".

(Are there any other games that have had .gif animations on the store page, or is this the first ?)

Flat colour environments. They did not even try. The beauty of "pixel art" was in the amazing talent of artists that went over the limits of 8 and 16 bit systems to convey realism, complexity, shading. The characters have a relosution high enough not to justify the flat colors in the background. It looks unconvincing to me. I might change my mind.
Plus the emo gay with the crown is odious. He looks like that big-headed guy at college that would say something idiotic thinking himself a genious. You know that guy.

Another "roguelike" game, to join the hundred of others Diablo wannabes.Count me out. IMHO this game is a pretty good example of Shovelware.

The problem is that the description and marketing are giving people no reason to buy it, since there are so many similar game out there. It looks like Shovelware.
I agree the trash statement is harsh,and I have no problem with GOG offering the game, but it does seem to be just another Rogue Fantasy game, of which there is a plethora out there. all hoping to be the next "Diablo" or "Torchlight".If you don't like this week's roguelike game, just wait till next weeks. they are the game equivalent of Grade B movies, trying to cash in on a big hit.
I guess if you are absloutley in love with the Rogue Genre you would be excited, but for most of us this looks "Meh"m just more of the same.
If the game turns out to be well reviews, I will give it a chance. But otherwise, no. Life is too short to waste time on mediocre games,which this looks like.

People are so hasty in their hatred about games they don't know anything about that so many times they just make fools of themselves. And sometimes they get it right. It's pretty random though. I can only imagine what this thread would have been like if a game like Undertale had gotten a day 1 release. Funny thoughts.

So my advice to people that don't like games they don't know and genres they won't ever test is basically to shut up and move on. But I understand that whining and hating it's too fun to resist.

(Yes, I'm making the popcorn useful)

IronArcturus: I agree. I don't know why there is so much unnecessary hatred for the roguelike(lite) genre. Is it really so bad to have a type of game that can generate almost infinite replayability? Being able to jump right into action is one of the greatest advantages of roguelike games.

The difficulty can be very steep in games like Risk of Rain, Enter the Gungeon, and Sword of the Stars: The Pit. Plus, there are mods like "Oblige" that can take a popular game like Doom 2 and give it practically infinite amounts of maps to play.
Problem is that for every good rogue like game, there are a dozen poorly made wannabes, shovelware at it's worst.

I love Diablo (at least the first two). I love Torchlight. I liked Dungeon Siege (at least the first). I think Darkstone is underrated gem of a rogue. But I know that Sturgeon's law applies to Roguelikes as it does to everything: 90% of anything is crap.
Look, GOG is right in offering the game ,..it a business, and you have to offer products to sueceed....but I think people have a right o say that the game look uninspired. If it is a good game, then the marketing is piss poor.
I guess game genres are like movie genres, you have fanbase who like every thing that comes along in the genre, and then those who like to think they are more discriminating.

I don't know, the game looks like it could be fun, but for something completely different: GOG, when did you start adding giant animations to game descriptions?!

When I visit a game page, I'll read its description, check out its screenshots, and only if I'm still interested I may proceed to watch its trailer. That's what it's there for, right? If I want to see the game in motion, I click on the trailer. I don't want to be force-fed these giant gifs, which aside from being distracting, also waste a lot of bandwidth. If this is the new standard, then I'll actually be less likely to visit the pages of new releases, unless I'm already sure I want to buy them.

Saw a video of it, looks crisp and solid in resolution and animations and sound (actually only the stage-selector is "pixel art"). I'd say a solid game for arcade lovers, which is not me but I don't understand the hate here either lol

I'm not a fan of how Tumblr-esque the cover art looks (girl with pink hair, guy with half a haircut and earrings, furries), but that's just personal preference. Perhaps it's a good game that others want.

While this artstyle gives my eyes a hard-on, the inclusion of rebindable keys, the animation and the fact that it's made with Unity make my heart soar, it's the rogue-like/lite that tied the brick around my ankle which makes me plummet back to earth...

Unless the rogue-elements does not include permadeath, I will unfortunately have to pass, as I detest wasted effort as a game-play mechanic...If that's the case it's a crying shame as the game looks and sounds gorgeous!

Though, I hope it does magnificently in spite of my opinions of rogue-likes as gog deserves to thrive as a host for more indie titles!

Apparently, the devs/publishers are the ones who provide the info (and extra graphics, if they wish) for the store pages. There have been other games with images amidst the descriptive text; but I don't recall if any previous ones used animated .gifs like this (which is why I also asked the same things your did).
At least these guys put them after the "read more" fold; some other product pages have had giant front-loaded images in the text section.
