Reclaiming your soul, one fireball at a time.

Risen 3: Titan Lords, an epic open-world RPG about wresting your soul back from the forces of evil, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Unchecked by the gods, the Titans were free to ravage the land, leaving humanity broken to lick its wounds, regroup, and launch a desperate attempt at retaliation. You awaken from a sleep of the dead, after a fateful encounter with a Shadow Lord has left your soul trapped in the Underworld. Claiming it back will prove a desperate race against time as the longer it stays separate from your body, the closer you get to becoming an unwitting minion of the Shadows.

Allying yourself with one of the opposing guilds has been a pinnacle of the series and in Risen 3 you must be particularly cautious when choosing sides as everyone has their own secret agenda and ulterior motives. But when politics and shady dealings fail, you can always rely on your glistening weapon or your blistering fireballs to bend the open-world to your will. Devastating magic, intense combat, and open exploration await you in the shadow of the Titan Lords.

Choose your path to greatness and reunite with your soul in Risen 3: Titan Lords, DRM-free on GOG.com. If you crave the extra adventures found in the game's DLCs, treat yourself to the Complete Edition now or opt to upgrade later.
The 50% launch discount will last until the end of our Weekend Promo on February 23, 7:59 AM GMT.

Melvinica: The german first edition (which I bought) is DRM free from day one and also includes all DLC's so the wait was not about making the game DRM free.
Does it require a disc check? Maybe they're comfortable with basic copy protection from the get-go but prefer to wait a bit to release DRM-free in digital format?

Otherwise... Idk. That does seem odd.

Yes, it does require a disc check.

I'm a bit jealous. Just about every physical release over here requires Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc.

Neat, it even says DRM-free (well, DRM FREI) on the cover!

No need for me to order it since I bought it here on GOG, but thanks for the link. :)
And there goes another game of my Steam wishlist :)
I'm considering buying this, and the only thing that weighs against a purchase is the lack of a Linux variant which is becoming increasingly important to me, as i plan to quit using ms products when the extended support for win7 runs out.
When that is said, more software companies should learn from Deep Silver's stance regarding software piracy (and DRM free), and people should support them some more.

Deep Silver is definitely climbing high on my game company trust radar, especially after reading that. I own several of their games already (Risen, Risen 2 on GOG, and Metro 2033 (original), Rush for Berlin Gold on Steam). I've got on my GOG wishlist the two Metro Redux games, all the Saint's Row games, Sacred 2 Gold, and Risen 3 Complete which I definitely plan to pick up in the future on GOG to support and bump the DRM-free counters for these games. If only more companies shared the opinions of GOG and Deep Silver like this. They're one of few game companies I follow on Facebook also.

I just really wonder what the delay in releasing here was.

Doesn't really matter to me, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd guess the same that it is for many companies. Smaller development team, and needing time to dedicate resources to porting things over from Steamworks to GOGworks (knock on wood).

Or making sure that they've made most of their money before releasing it as "Piracy fodder" that being DRM-free automatically makes it.
I did not expect this, but I'm glad it's here.
I hope we'll see more games like Lost Horizon series, Rush for Berlin, Secret Files series, Singles: Flirt Up Your Life Singles 2: Triple Trouble, etc. including Ride to Hell: Retribution :P

ReynardFox: Hm, I haven't heard much positive feedback about this one, most reviews I saw of it were scathing...

The world map is supposedly a copy/paste of Risen 2 as well.
Only one review on GOG ( tend to trust GOGgites a bit more) and original release was lowkey as well?.

Does Deep Silver usually release DRM-free digital on Day One?

SeduceMePlz:
Probably not, just watching this kind of stuff is frustrating.

I never got to finish Risen 2 because my old computer couldn't handle it. Probably about time to see it through.
