A New Cyberpunk Adventure

Read Only Memories a neo cyberpunk point and click adventure, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% discount.

In the year 2064 fully-autonomous, sapient machine assistants are as commonplace as the smartphone presently pressed against your pocket. You're a journalist with something of a techophobic tendency, but that can't last long in a modern world - can it? Inspired by Hideo Kojima's Snatcher, Read Only Memories is a point and click adventure across anime pixel-art straight from the 80's, and a wonderful soundtrack that sets a memorable tone in the cyberpunk cityscapes of a Neo San Francisco. A dark side of technology lurks beneath dynamic storytelling, award-winning voice actors and a vibrant set of characters. Can you survive?

You can also pick up the Deluxe Edition upgrade for a fantastic, concept-art filled Artbook, as well as an MP3 + FLAC soundtrack.

Read Only Memories is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last for one week, until Tuesday, October 13, 9:59 AM GMT.

Thiev: Neo-San Francisco? ;)

Breja: Really?
>Looks at the title card< >Looks at the game description< >Looks at the title card again<
Really?
Neo-sf. Neo San Francisco.
I just...
I should stop even opening the threads for those japanese things. It's always a migrane just waiting to happen.
The Katakana in the title is just a literal representation of the Title in English, nothing special.
Neo S-F is probably inspired by Neo-Tokyo from "Akira" or the distopian city from Blade Runner.
Considering that they did this, it's a shame that Japanese is not one of the languages I can choose from for the game ;_;
It reads: RiiDo ONRii MemoriiZu ^_^.

I have backed this on KS, so I should receive my key any day now...

JudasIscariot: Well, how many times can you play "the real deal"? It's good to have some new blood every now and then :)
True, but these games rarely have anything new to offer. And there's plenty of "retro" games to play, not running out any time soon.

JudasIscariot: SF is also the two letter abbreviation for San Francisco :) Also, "Neo-San Francisco" is the first thing mentioned in the game description :)
I know, but the first thing I saw was the game's title card, without any description, on GOG's home page. So I llok at it and go "Neo-SF, something something something, cyberpunk... wait, back up, neo-sf? The fuck is that?". And once I read it this way, I didn't get the San Francisco connection even after looking at the description. Still, I don't think I'm going to be the only one who reads it like that at first.

Yes, it would help if I read the entire description, but I immediately saw that it's not a game for me, and was to lazy to read to the end :P

Wow!

Also, art looks like oldschool fanzine. I'm hooked!
Looks interesting, wishlisted 'till a nice sale.
Some of the scenes are clearly inspired by the DOS version of Neuromancer, I wish they'd taken their inspiration for the graphic from the Amiga or C-64 version instead.
it looks really horrible, when I see those white control icons of mouth and hand, I feel sick :)

yet, it's probably a very good game (maybe even with normal modern controls), so I'm really looking forward to see some reviews here :)
high rated
Interesting... I'll wait until reviews show up. :3

PimPamPet: Yeah, nothing against this game in particular, but why play these fake "neo-retro" games, when you can play the real deal?

Now that you mentioned blood... How about a Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines release? :-)
Niiiice segue there.

tburger: Looks nice and I'm certain I'll pick it later but for now too many oldies to pla.. err...collect :-D
I feel you... backlog for life ... might as well wait for super sale to add the pretty box on the GOG shelf.
It's always good to see more adventure games available on GOG, but something about the visuals in this one are just off-putting. I prefer the cleaner style of Gemini Rue and the other Wadjet Eye games.

PimPamPet: Yeah, nothing against this game in particular, but why play these fake "neo-retro" games, when you can play the real deal?
Three reasons:
-- Better design. Recent games can benefit from advancement in game design made over the years which just wasn't there in the 80s and 90s. E.g. there are way fewer cat moustache puzzles in modern adventures than in old ones.
-- Inexpensive art -> new and awesome ideas. The "neo-retro" style is used not [only] for [fake] nostalgia's sake, but because it's not costly to use, so people can make games they want to make.
-- Artistic preference. Art which is inexpensive to make can still benefit from inexpensive but great-looking modern visual effects.

..and another one :-P
Another one to get "some time". Thanks to recent trades I already have too much new stuff to play. :)
