OVERpowered, OVERswarmed, OVERthrilled.

Raiden IV: Overkill, a frenetic vertical scrolling shooter, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 30% launch discount.

In the days of yore when coin-ops ruled the Earth, top-down shoot-'em-ups were the best method of making humans deposit their hard-earned cash into the bellies of our rattling mechanical overlords. Coinops are nearly extinct now, but vertical scrolling shooters are here to stay, and Raiden IV: Overkill is the living, breathing, over-addictive proof! Clear screen after screen of swarming enemies with your formidably overpowered weaponry - leaving heaps of floating space debris in your wake. And be sure to gear up for the epic boss fights, because these oversized devils are going to take all the firepower and skill you can muster.

Collect weapons and power-ups, pump up your ship and try the all-new Overkill game mode, in which you'll earn points for eliminating enemies the moment they appear on screen. And all that with an impressive 3D coating that makes every bit of Raiden IV: Overkill look spiffier than ever.

Blow up scores of space-hoodlums and look cool doing it in Raiden IV: Overkill, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until February 17, 1:59 PM GMT.

Note: Raiden IV: Overkill does not currently include Global Leaderboards and Replays, so the base price has been lowered to reflect this. The game's price will return to normal once these features are added. Owners of the game will not have to pay extra.

MrFortyFive: Instabought to support more SHMUPs on GOG. Bring em on. It's not too late to change your minds on Mushihimesama! Loving that included FLAC soundtrack too.
Hellllll yes I want Mushihimesama here DRM-free! Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Degica also covered Dariusburst and Eschatos on PC didn't they?

catpower1980: As the game isn't really in 16/9 format originally (or rather in 9/16 format if you rotate your screen) it will always have borders on the sides or up&bottom. See pic attached when rotated at 90°
Thanks for the informations. I also have a question: can you play it in a window?
Interesting release. Will wishlist for now. Also voted for and [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/starward_rogue]Starward Rogue.

Yeah, they did. And the upcoming Deathsmiles port, and some other stuff like XIIzeal that's not quite as good. But still cool.

Eschatos is probably the best kept secret of them all, though.
Bah, I can only survive bullet hell IRL.

This game isn't really bullet hell though, and has a wide variety of difficulty settings.

How's the port, anyway?
Raiden III reviews here reported that it was crap.
Wait really? Mushihimesame is too niche as a bullet hell but this is fine?

I've just been giving it a quick run. It seems pretty solid, it's infinitely better than Raiden 3 (Which really was a half-assed quick and dirty port). The game itself is massively improved over Raiden 3 and this port has decent video resolution, scaling and rotational options... though I've hit a few minor issues:

1. I had to force v-sync in my video driver control panel though as by default I had wicked screen tearing and the game doesn't have it's own option.
2. It seems to have a problem when alt-tabbing as once I tabbed back and unpaused it, the screen went, and stayed black.
3. There's no way to disable the graphical borders, while this doesn't matter to everyone it annoys the shit out of me. I find every one of the included 'themes' visually obtrusive.

(I'm on WIndows 7 with a Radeon R9 290X for reference)

Mushihimesama now has more than twice as many votes on the wishlist as Raiden IV, and also more than all the Raiden games together.

This just shows what I've said all along, GOG staff don't play or care for shooters and are ignorant of the genre. An unacceptable excuse for a store that sells games.

Look, guys, we're all on the same page here, but I think we should be *happy* when we do get something. Yes, there's a lot more that we want to see on the store, but it's important to take a moment and acknowledge when GOG does something right.

Yes. As a matter of fact, the game is set to Window mode by default.
