Pray for Death, a 2D fighting game where legendary warriors duel their way out of Death's domain, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Cthulhu, Anubi, a big ugly demon, and a vaguely familiar martial arts master are only some of the warriors that join Death's tournament for a chance at resurrection. Brutal combat is their trade and they deliver it with high kicks, bloody punches, and devastating combos, softening their opponents up for the particularly gruesome killing blow.
I would actually prefer to see Savage Warriors here, the only fighting game I would instabuy due to my avatar and username ;)

CharlesGrey: I recall another Dark Fantasy themed Fighting game from that time... Iron & Blood, or something? I think that one was at least mildly entertaining, and I'm fairly sure it had a PC version.

ValamirCleaver: One of the "results" of the waning days of Lorraine Williams led https://www.mobygames.com/game/iron-blood-warriors-of-ravenloft
Going by the review scores, it was worse than I remember it. But with the D&D theme it still seems like a good fit for the GOG audience. And it's probably still better than this game, but that's not really saying much.

CharlesGrey: Weren't some of the Dead or Alive games available on PC? Those would be a nice addition to GOG's collection. And I'm not just saying that for the obvious reason -- it really is a good martial arts series.

The boobs are just a bonus.

Grargar: Only the latest one. The one with costume DLC packs that are more expensive than the base game.
Yeah, I thought of the DLC and how that may be problematic, or at least not popular around here. Then again, GOG is now selling DLC containing nothing but avatar pictures, or all those Metronomicon(?) song DLCs -- So surely packs of completely new outfits/looks for 3D characters are no worse than those.

I'd still like to have it available here, and simply opt not to purchase any DLC I don't need. GOG just needs a better system for games with many DLC downloads, so they don't clutter up the storefront.

GOG might be offering cosmetic DLC, but the scale (amount/game plus price of DLC) is not comparable. Plus, I'm not even sure if GOG can actually technically support so many DLC packs for one game.
"Classic" release huh?

This was a terrible Mortal Kombat cash in title that only got decent scores from PC die hards desperate for fighting games, nothing more. Gotta love that quality curation.

Where the hell is BlazBlue: Continuum Shift? -.-

OraEtLabora: In modern times, Cthulhu is in many games ...

mistermumbles: "You're a nerd? You like Cthulhu, yes?" ... Ugh! The whole Cthulhu and Lovecraft shtick has been overdone as much as zombies in the nerd mainstream culture. The notion I get when either one of these is touted as a major feature of any game today is that the developers have no ounce of original thought.
:D

Guys/girls, anyone remembers this "indie" game?
Battle of the Eras (1995, DOS)

Dogmaus: I played the demo but I can't remember much.
Does anyone remember the title of an old DOS beat 'em up, 1994 circa, in which the fighters were puppets? It's had a dark/horror atmosphere. Google and lists are not helping me.
avatar
OraEtLabora: I only remember ClayFighter, but that wasn't for PC.
Wait ... you mean arcade beat'em up?
It was a 1 VS 1 beat em up, a la Street Fighter II. Characters were realistic puppets, maybe photographed in stop motion. Palette was really dark and I'm quite sure it was a DOS game. That's something I'd really want to see here. It must be really obscure, because it's not listed together with other classics in any site I have checked.
Maybe because it came late for the party after the marked had been saturated.
I should browse old pc mags, I think it's 1994, Magic Carpet, X-COM days. Or I just dreamt it.

OraEtLabora: To be honest, I don't remember that one... I found a video of the gameplay:

Anyway, this korean game was very impressive at that time:

And who remembers Overkill?

...or even Theatre of Pain (1996)?

and another "gem" - Expect No Mercy:

If it makes you feel any better, I totally forgot about Expect No Mercy! Man, that control was choppy as heck. (I have a soft spot for weird, bad, PC exclusive fighting games.)

Yah, I definitely makes me feel better :P

I am happy, that some people do remember these :)
Wow! I was hoping for a more modern fighting game(SNKs or newer MK), but this is a GOG I guess...
You know what MAME is right? You know there was a Humble Bundle with a bunch of SNK games back in December 2015, the games are still for sale on Humble's store.
It's possible GOG expects it to sell okay since it's not on Steam, or maybe it's just here out of contractual obligation to Interplay. Plus it was an easy DOSBox job presumably. It is disappointing that GOG apparently didn't want "Tender Loving Care" (released by ND on Steam), which has something like 110 votes - https://twitter.com/NightdiveStudio/status/847539627267248128 . (Of course votes don't necessarily equate to sales; I just like seeing the total number of "votes completed" go up. :P)

Perhaps. Or maybe GOG just think it's a pretty entertaning game? Most people criticizing it seem to be the ones who didn't play it.

I must admit that the game has one major weakness ... the camera zoom, while pretty wild at the time, simply messes up the games low-res graphic. I remember noticing this back then. A noteable flaw, but yet, this is one solid title! I remember that cyberpunk psycho girl who had this really sick backstory, and this circular temple with that perfect parallax scrolling.

Anyways I'm totally outraged that people claim it is cloning MORTAL KOMBAT and also, that it is cloning KILLER INSTINKT. I mean, make up you mind which game you wanna acuse it of cloning. This game has nothing in common with MORTAL KOMBAT whatsoever. Yeah okay, it uses combos and fatalities, but the blood are different, the graphic are different and the fighters are WAY different. But sure, lots of similarites with KILLER INSTINCT, since both games used what was cutting edge tech at the time - camera movements, pre-rendered sprites, fmv.

EDIT:
I just found this article where one of the original developers talk about the game. Turns out they did set out to try and clone KILLER INSTINCT in a pc version. Interesting read:
