Anamon: Very true. It's what you make out of it that counts.

What bugs me more is the inflationary use of the term Rogue. These days the definition seems to have been reduced to "contains a call to `rand()` somewhere in its code". Some of these developers/marketers should play a bit of Rogue and tell me how exactly those games can be considered a"like".
It's become like soulslike, just to mean that the game is hard.
Which game engine does it use?

Dogmaus: By the way, both randomly generated and pre-designed can be done well or badly.
In theory, yes, but in practice randomness is ill-suited for anything but the most rudimentary game designs. For games attempting to convey true depth, meaning, and an authentic sense of progression, intelligent design has to be involved. That intelligence doesn't necessarily have to be human, automated artificial intelligence could conceivably accomplish comparable results in the future with the right tools and given enough processing power. And neither does intelligent design preclude the use of randomness as a tool for streamlining certain aspects of game design. But the overarching game design has to be intelligence-based if it's going to be any good and not merely a source of cheap thrills or an exercise in style over substance. A good game cannot be based on simplistic randomness any more than a movie or a book can, and expect to turn out any good. Unfortunately, many books and movies these days seem to rely on RNG-based scripts as heavily as the average game, severely lacking in intelligence and forethought, but that's a topic for another discussion...

Unreal Engine 4.

ReynardFox: Remember when FPS with carefully crafted levels and actual progression was the norm? Can we get back to that please?
avatar
wildapple20: Yeah, at least some devs are trying... look at these comming Apogee, 3DRealms and other FPS games.
Could you please be more specific?

StarChan: Could you please be more specific?
Yes. Here are some newer published or upcomming indie fps games, that have solid level design:
Iron Maiden
Dusk
WRATH (in development)
GRAVEN (in development)
Prodeus (in development)
Maximum Action
low rated
oh noes. sombody released a game in a genre I don't like, I wish all games released was only in the genre I likes.

wasp08: I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't keen on randomly-generated levels.
I felt that most of the so called "Randomly-generated levels" are not actually that random. For example in Diablo II they claimed about random maps but turn out they just made a handful of maps and then turn them 90 to 180 degrees and we just "randomly" given one of those variant.

Making a program that actually generate something like a map is not actually that simple. So I suspect they just made a bunch of rooms, and throw them into a randomizer or something and call it a day.

Also if the game is truly random, it will be hilarious if in a session of the gameplay, we start the game and it goes to the final boss after the first room. I mean, that's the true meaning of pure randomness.

Has anyone tried the game yet? Does it allow the user to save at the end of the level?

I tried it, it crashed on me after 5 minutes. I'll wait for a patch.
Hello there,

The maps are hand-crafted and for each stage some of them are randomly chosen from the pool of that stage maps.

The game is using Unreal Engine 4.24.

Have a great day!

The game will automatically save at the end of each level.

Is the game crashing every time, or was an one time event, can you tell us more please?

Bumping to let people notice the probable presence of the dev here.

Equalizer1374:
Are you the developer? If so, thanks for showing up and clarifying doubts. (For the record, I am not a customer. I hardly ever play FPSs anymore. So I also don't have any questions)

Please ask GOG to change your account giving your posts the orange text color that identifies game developers. Like this. Makes your posts easy to identify.

If that's the case you should have the game's page edited because no one will get that from "randomly generated levels".
