Prancing with the devil.

<span class="bold">Pony Island</span>, a devious puzzle game where you gamble your soul to escape a sinister arcade machine, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux with a 10% launch discount and the game's soundtrack included as a bonus goodie.

The old Arcade is about to close for the night. You approach a colourful coin-op machine standing apart from the rest at the end of the hallway. "Pony Island". Hey, it's what that weird neighbour's kid was playing endlessly before the accident. You feed it a coin, press "Start" and it glitches on you. A slight push; no effect. Frustrated, you start pressing buttons, kick, yell, send the machine to hell. It backfires. Badly.

You are no longer in the Arcade, you are inside the arcade. You're trapped in the devil's digital playground and there is only one escape: to puzzle out how to fix it. But you are not alone. The souls of other unlucky gamers who fell for this cunningly attractive trap are in here too. Or maybe that's what the diabolical architect of this infernal game wants you to believe. Is the code really broken? Or is it your soul? You need to think outside the box, if you are to escape this devilish arcade box. Or just use this cheat code that we happened to have lying ar--[ERROR - UNKNOWN INPUT FORMAT]

Outwit a malfunctioning machine programmed by the devil and escape <span class="bold">Pony Island</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until February 18, 1:59 PM GMT.
So I saw the thread for this and people clamoring for it and honestly I thought it looked a bit well crap. I checked some of the screen shots and was like who cares about some pony game with horrible graphics. After looking into it more since it came here, this is definitely a game I would want here. The concept is awesome and I can't wait to play it. Definitely one you have to look into a bit more though as the first impression can definitely make you wonder how this got here at first. Thanks for taking the time to see it for the gem it is GOG (and the forumites who championed it's cause), I missed it entirely.
What the ...??? o______O

Perfect digital gift for all "My Little Pony"-Nerds I'd say ^^
Protip: This game says it need precise controls, but trackballs aren't so great.

blackbishop86: It isn't speculation for Mushihimesama as there is evidence for that, but it is for Pony Island because there is nothing to back up anything other than what is already explained by a quote from the dev which someone posted in another topic about this game. Since you cannot correlate both scenarios, my point still stands (unless I missed something).

For the record, I also refuse to buy Mushihimesame from Steam and I'm waiting it to come to GOG. I could buy it in Humble Bundle but I'll wait a bit. Who knows, perhaps it can came next week or next month.

RWarehall: Actually, you did miss something. Apparently the dev contacted GoG and was told the game was never submitted. And if you look at that quote, it smells funny. Why is his agent saying it was rejected, but "we'll resubmit it". That sounds more like "I mailed you that check last week, but I'll get another one in the mail today." His game submission was probably stuck on someone's desk at the publishing house...
LOL... I see, thanks for the heads up :). When I begun to read your comment I thought you'd say I missed something that could be a turnaround for my comment about not being GOG's fault (presumption of innocence), but it was the other way around.

Darvond: Protip: This game says it need precise controls, but trackballs aren't so great.
I can attest to that. I use a trackball normally, but the bits that involve jumping and shooting a ray make a trackball almost impossible due to the movement + possible 360-degree spinning. They are easy with a mouse, though.
can't await the sequel: unicorn island
Okay... I've played it a little. And so far I'm liking it a lot. It has this unique weirdness that I find compelling (like the first Hotline Miami). And I find it extremely well executed.
But I can see it's not for everyone.

As for the horror aspect: I can see where they're coming from, classifying the game like this:

It's not about "losing your soul" or something like that, it's about that uneasy feeling of being at the mercy of some sick and malevolent person on his own turf. Someone who's stalking you and tries to play god.
It reminds me a lot of the "Bastard Operator from Hell" (the other greybeards here will remember) with you stuck in the shoes of one of the (l)users. And having to try and understand the sick logic of that little sadistic wannabe-god in order to make it.

Of course the playful retro aesthetics of the game make it easy to keep a distance and to not let yourself feel this way. But if you let yourself in on that atmosphere (I'm helped by the fact that I'm currently feeling a little feverish ;-)), I think it can give you that creepy feeling down there in the bowel region.
At least for me playing this game makes me more uneasy than playing, for instance, F.E.A.R., where with all the guns and bullet time I never had the feeling of being... kind of lost and at the mercy of anybody.

9% off, not 10. Guys, seriously, you need to fix this crap rounding everywhere... 10% in dollars should be 10 in euros...

Do you mean it appears with 9% off instead of 10% because you use euros? I have USD as currency and always got 9% too since the day it was posted, and now I checked the price says 8%...
This game looks unique and interesting...and I'm never going to buy it, because dat interface yo. The text looks janky and muddled or jagged. Some of it seems to have horrible shadows that make it hard to read. And the red-white-blue neon looks-like-bad-3D effect on some of those screenshots? Ouch.

It's a deliberate design choice to speak to the essence of whatever the devs want to say I'm sure, but it looks bad and makes the screenshots confusing. If I want that, I'll just go straight to the granddaddy of bad ASCII interfaces and play Dwarf Fortress without a tileset.

The game seems to be missing from GOG's catalogue. Any news?

To put it simply. The publisher Plug-In didn't give any revenue to the developer that was at GOG. Which is strange since it is a self-published game.
Hey GOGers,

Upon developer’s request, we, unfortunately, had to remove Pony Island from our store. We’re sorry that this hadn’t been communicated to you before it happened - sadly, we weren’t able to do it this time around. Our BizDev team is in talks with the developer, and we’ll update you on the situation if there’s any significant changes. Thanks & apologies for the inconvenience!
