Eh, they are good games and I like a lot about them a lot (BG2 especially), but they over-rated and hyped by a lot of people to other people, IMO, and there are many many other games that I think are better.

ShadowWulfe: It does matter when pirating the GOG version before the DRM-ed version amounts to an endorsement of DRM.

That kind of shortsighted behavior enhances Steam/Uplay/Origins' position.
Yup, all the highest-seeded versions on a certain site are GOG's.

There's really no way around the fact that GOG versions are easier to pirate than Steam's (at least uploading an installer file vs. Steam files, I guess). It's just that they're easier for paying customers to use, too.

EDIT: At least the one I viewed had a link to the gamecard on GOG, which is a small something.

advancedhero: Only Infinity Engine games I've played are BG 1-2, but they are my beloved. I can't imagine getting any better. Maybe I'll be pleasantly suprised one day.
You should get Planescape Torment. Better than BG all around IMO.

Baldurs Gate is probably my favorite game, ever. I realize that it had as much to do with the time and place in my life as it did with the game. The fall of 1998 I was a single, 22 year old university student heading into my second last year. I lived alone in a bachelor pad, and due to a clever combination of student loans, scholarships, and the greatest summer job ever, I didn't work during the '98-'99 school year. I had the time and place to play the game, the nievity of youth to not mind dedicating hours and hours to a video game, and the maturity to fully appreciate it all. It was really a perfect storm of conditions for BG to be my favorite game.

They're probably on this thread, and in hindsight realized what a boneheaded move putting a major release up on Torrent before (presumably before?) the DRM-ed versions is.

DRM-free is easier for customers, certainly, however, if a publisher/shareholder can squeeze the same amount of cash from the customer with the added belief (false or not) that the product is "safe", they will.

I'm just ranting though, hot air won't make that much of a difference.

I still have yet to download PoE, I'm assuming that download speeds are stunted?
I've been hearing good things. Was waiting for Torment: Tides of Numenera to scratch my Infinity Engine itch but I'm very tempted.

Think I'll join the waiting for more reviews train.

Seems that way given that the GOG versions were specifically mentioned as being so on the site I looked at. The de-Steam-ed version was probably there but I think the difference between the seeds was close to a thousand. (The top two or three were GOG's.)

That's the way it is with Steam - the product being "safe", at least arguably easier to keep safe for the first few hours of sales - but people put up with it b/c of the convenience, achievements, and stuff like that. That "extra" seems to be a draw for many people.

I've heard the download speeds were fluctuating upon initial release, dunno what they're like now.
The thing the publishers / developers need to figure out I'd that the people pirating the game were unlikely to buy it in the first place. They just see lost sales.

Exactly, in fact I'd go as far as saying that people who pirate the game have NO intention of purchasing it. On the other side you get people like myself who pre-ordered the game with little intention of playing it to support the developers ..... though now I have buyers remorse as I no longer trust the developers.

Regardless, pirating games has been around for as long as gamers, the addition of DRM on games simply means less people purchase not less people downloading.

I doubt about it. That user (sarah116) is very prolific on the torrent sites (type GOG in the games field and you'll see what I mean).
Really enjoying the game so far it has the old fieel of the classic infinity games.

Sadly you cant do much about pireated copies it was going to happen but i hope that some who donwload it go and buy it.

For me Obsiden deserve the money they are one of the few developers i trust these days and want to give their customers what they want not the what we can make money wise out of a shoddy game.
