Zero-G explosions.

Overload is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com
Spin, dive, shoot, blow stuff up - you got six degrees of freedom and you will need every single one of them if you're to destroy your mechanical enemies and rescue your people before disaster hits. Descent into an epic single-player campaign with upgradeable ships and challenge levels, then go online for more bombastic action and ship customization.

UPDATE: Be sure to check out the demo for a nice slice of the action, before you make up your mind.

Wintermute: "Descend into an epic single-player campaign", not "Descent into an epic single-player campaign". 'Descent' is a noun
Probably did that on purpose.
A "pun" if I'm not mistaken.

Yep. It's a huge 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink - we're really the successor to Descent!'
Not that they would need to rub our collective nose in it, the game speaks for itself.
If you don't know or never have heard of Descent before, then that's a pretty huge gap in your education right there.

On a related note - anyone with a Twitter account who could inquire about an ETA for Overload's soundtrack on gog?

twitter.com/PlayOverload

Thanks.

Still no keys for Kickstarter backers? I haven't got mine.

Interesting. I got mine two days ago. Check the backerkit page for overload? Maybe the email got filtered as spam or something.

Nope not on backerkit, nothing in spam either.

Haven't gotten it either, so you're not alone at least.

Just got the email from them - instead of automatically sending it to everyone they're sending it by request only. They're concerned about people selling or giving away the GOG key as a "second key" (it's not, of course).

Makes sense.

Alright, makes some sense if not for the fact that they sent out an email a few weeks ago that the key would be automatically added to the Backerkit account once the game launches on GOG. They could've/should've just told us to mail them back then.

mannefriedrich: Considering that Overload is Descent in everything but name you can't really go wrong with good old keyboard + mouse.
It's not bad but the key signals can jam if you mash a few of them together and there's no analog movement.

Spectre: Does anyone have better ideas for 6DOF controls apart from twin flight joysticks or one of those 3D CAD controllers?
avatar
timppu: I presume the game is optimized for dual-stick gamepad controls.

At least that would make sense as I always felt a modern gamepad would have been pretty much a perfect controller for Descent 1-3.
avatar
AlienMind: would be good. So a normal flight control system, aka HOTAS+rudder pedals, aka one joystick one thruster and toe brakes setup would suffice.
There's only 5 axis on that setup and the 360 style pad. You could just use buttons for rolling or some other less than useful function but games like these show how inadequate some things are with PC gamings current setup.

I remember Warhawk showing how you could make good use of all the PS3 pads features and that's over 10 years ago, Descent came about 10 years before that.
