Examining the human condition(ing).

Overclocked: A History of Violence, a contemporary psychological thriller, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 75% launch discount.

Some people believe that violence is more of a defense mechanism than it is an offensive act. It is meant to mask our weaknesses by making others feel equally weak. But it might also be the result of traumatizing experiences that people are unconsciously hiding from themselves.

Could that be the case for the five teenagers found wandering the streets of New York during a violent thunderstorm, armed with guns and a horrible sense of unawareness? Specialized psychiatrist David McNamara means to find out by diving into the patients' unconscious, trying to piece together the fragments of (playable) memories they reluctantly share with him. It is a gruelling process that will push McNamara into dark places, forcing him to puzzle his way out while coping with his personal demons.

Unravel the clouded psyche of your violent teen patients in Overclocked: A History of Violence, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 75% launch discount will last until December 21, 1:59 PM GMT.

IAmSinistar: My pleasure. I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg's medical horror films, but he is good at whatever he turns his hand to, including the political thrillers of which this film is an instance of. He returned to his original genre with a recent short film called The Nest that is quite disturbing (and NSFW).

Lemon_Curry: So am I, thanks a lot for sharing the link (though, due to the sign in requirement, I had to watch the short at Dailymotion. Unfortunately, I found it quite underwhelming and disappointing but I'd certainly love to read Consumed.
Oh dear, the neighbour of my former boss was such a case.
He was concinced, that his legs don't belong to him for decades and was in a wheelchair being rolled around by his girlfriend although those legs were perfectly fine. He read in a forum of likewise deranged people how to kill them off easily so that doctors have to remove them for him (paid by the healthcare system on top of it) and actually did it...

Hmm, I found that the spareness of it and the cinema verite approach made it quite unsettling. It didn't feel like a movie so much as an uncomfortably voyeuristic actual event. And that giant unexplained piece of machinery on the back wall made it all the more disconcerting to me.

But yes, each to their own. :)

I'm stunned... that's horrible.

I wonder if he ever regretted it.

It does have certain aspects going for it and I agree with you on most of the above except that I find it neither unsettling nor uncomfortable. It is mildly interesting, however, even though the ending comes across as abrupt and ill-conceived. It also bothers me that she never wonders about her peculiar surroundings and doesn't even question the fact that this supposed surgeon/psychiatrist who claims to know absolutely nothing about insects is seemingly able to identify the species just by listening to her breast with a stethoscope.

Aargh! :D

In addition to The Mystery of the Druids and 15 Days, Painkiller Overdose, ArcaniA and SpellForce 2 Faith in Destiny (to complete the SpellForce franchise) are titles you can start voting if you want to help to convince GOG to bring them online ;) I would love to see those online without any luck so far ;)

@Lemon_Curry: I have never abandoned GOG - sometimes I am just on vacation, believe it or not ;) but I was again really active in the last releases of the last weeks, haven't you seen it?

@tfishell: on the To Do list for next year - hope we can make it possible :)

Risingson: Flawed game. Barely any puzzle or any challenge. Uneven story. Recommended.
All I see are negatives, why are you recommending it?
Voted:)

deonast: Thanks for mentioning that. I checked and I don't own that movie. Better still the local chain of stores JB HI-FI I buy most movies from has it for $9.98 on blu-ray and maybe 20% off if the have another sale before January. Well that's on my wish list now.

Just clicked the link ahh, I see what you mean by NSFW. No risk of opening at work, I rarely have time to do personal stuff when I'm on the clock :(

Got that short film paused in a tab I'll try and watch it before bed.

Oh, I forgot that part!

Because there are not that many psychological adventures, because the setting is intriguing, because I admire the adventures that go deep into difficult narrative territories even when the results are far from what they try to do (Phantasmagoria 2, Harvester, Dark Seed 2). Because it lets itself play. Because it is well written.

Yes please :)

Speaking of Spellforce, even if it cannot be here at launch, can you share or link to some info on Spellforce 3 when it comes? Thanks again.

Wut? I've bought 4 Nordic games on shinyloot.com which are not available here, I'd never have believed GoG refused to sell them, how bollocks is this? Especcially when it's about completing franchises.
If "Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods" is here (destroying the "quality" argument), I don't see a reason to exclude Painkiller Overdose, Spellforce 2 Faith in Destiny and this pseudo Gothic "Arcania" with it's addon.
