BoBFiSh: I ended up getting this elsewhere a long while back, and I've not regretted it at all. I play a lot of it multiplayer with friends and family and it plays well, games don't take too long and it has a decent amount of options to level the playing field somewhat.

As to the DLC, there's a lot there but really I've found that just the Ceres addon is enough at the moment. Although I own the majority of it because it was drip fed since launch and never felt like it was forcing me to get it.

Worth a go if you want a nice alternative real time strategy and I'm glad it finally made it here.

The style of game does seem to lend the AI a certain vicious edge, from my experience with it. So it should present a good challenge and there is a single player campaign that offers different challenges and scenarios to work around.

geop: I just got this game and all I see is an option for ranked. How do you make lobbies for custom games?
Assuming it is exactly like the steam version you go into "Multiplayer - Game Available" and "Lobby game" appears directly underneath it.

Screencap for reference.

Why wouldn't it be?

Its almoust 70% off. Anybody who want's it will get it now. At the end even with all revelant dlcs its only cca. 23€. And the base game just 12€ discounted from 37€.

Regardless of their dlc policy its worth to get it now.

Matruchus: Well the dlc deliver actual mars landscape. Here the description: This map pack adds over 30 new maps to Skirmish and Multiplayer games. Designed by a planetary geologist, these maps model the actual Martian surface in each of the red planet’s regions and will add plenty of depth to your Offworld experience.
avatar
OliD: So the base game (still) has random maps for skirmish/multiplayer and the "Real Mars" DLC has nothing else to offer besides 30+ premade maps (no new terrains, map generator options, etc.)?
Yes, you have to pay for map editor separately. Its in the toolkit dlc. So if you don't care about premade maps then real Mars dlc makes no sense for buying. But remember that real mars dlc maps are based on real life footage of Mars itself.

Why? its a very good game looking at youtube gameplay. Especially multiplayer seems excellent.
Also getting it later today. But not with all the dlcs.
Edit: I mean especially since everybody gets two copies of the game for 12€.

Lemon_Curry: I know but I simply fail to see how one single free DLC of an almanac could be beneficial to marketing. Surely, including it with the main game would provide more of an incentive for potential customers to buy that product.

Vythonaut: There are a lot of stuff happening behind a "Free!" tag. If you feel like reading, check out this article: http://www.neurosciencemarketing.com/blog/articles/the-power-of-free.htm Of course, you can also do your own research about the power of freebies.
Especially if it's not really free.

"Please note that you are required to own Offworld Trading Company on GOG.com to be able to purchase and play Offworld Trading Company - Almanac DLC."

As I understand it, the almanac is a PDF file, so it wouldn't technically require you to have the base game. Something that's included with the purchase of a different product isn't "free" by any definition of the word.

This is currently very popular in music, and it bugs me a lot. "Pre-order the album now, and get this digital track for free!" It's not free if I first have to pay $30 for something else in order to get it…

Also, technically speaking, I don't know what use would it be this PDF file for you, if you don't have the game in the first place. :P

It might help me decide if I like the game :) from the description, it also contains info on how the game was designed and developed.
But I was of course more thinking in abstract, that something tied to a purchase shouldn't be advertised as free :) this way, it really feels like the decision to not have it as a game bonus is just to try and see if more people buy it if it can be advertised as "includes FREE DLC!"
That is, if it was actually advertised that way, which it isn't. You really only see the free DLC if you look for it, it's not mentioned in the news or the game description. So I'm actually not really sure what the idea was…

If anyone has one of the free codes for the game and is looking for a new friend then I'm your guy :) Am happy to trade, just send me a chat message and we can go from there.

I bought the game + DLCs and am a little confused about this specific DLC. Where can I see (and select) these extra maps? The skirmish menu didn't look much different than before if at all. How can I see if the DLC actually works? Don't know much about the game yet so I might be missing something obvious.

I just bought it and there is definitely no option to choose any of those 30 maps. Plus the whole multiplayer side of the game is missing on gog. Just ranked multiplayer is there. It seems to be a broken version of the game.

Checked the game files and there are only 5 maps to be chosen from. It seems the real mars map pack dlc is missing. The same as the whole multiplayer side. Only ranked match is there but no custom, etc.

Shall we contact support? Sounds like a serious issue. :S

That's with Galaxy too I assume? Since it does say multiplayer requires it (ew...).

Edit: Oh... In that case, I'd say support should know about it by now. But that'd make it odd to have nothing said so far. And that not far more people posted about it if it'd be a general issue. So thinking it's only under certain cases or smth?

will this be avaiable on GOG Connect before Dec 1st, or do i have to buy this game again before the discount period ends, this will be the 3rd time if i have to buy it again, at least i can sell my retail box, some of the DLCs are worthwhile btw :)

Yes, its with galaxy. But I found out (looking at steam forums)that this is a bug or a problem that already exists since sometime for some people. And its very possible most people only played singleplayer till now. I just wanted to check out how to set up a game for a multiplayer game later this weekend.
