The Call of the NES.

Odallus: The Dark Call, an authentic, modern and polished throwback to the feel and ambiance of the NES, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com!

Odallus: The Dark Call is a terrifyingly authentic throwback to the metroidvanias of old on the NES. It's a game that not only draws inspiration from titles like Ghosts 'n Goblins, Demon's Crest and Castlevania, but could easily be mistaken for one of them. For fans of days past, this title should have it all. At its core, the game is designed to recreate the ambience and feel of all the old school classics - for example, the graphics adhere strictly to the 8-bit limitations of game development back in the day. Odallus: The Dark Call makes the limitations its own, and combined with open, modern day design and responsive controls - it gracefully straddles the line between extremely old-school and extremely playable.

Peek through a highly polished window into the glory days of metroidvanias in Odallus: The Dark Call, available now DRM-free on GOG.com! If you can handle it.

Dalthnock: Since I'm feeling quite pedantic this lovely afternoon, allow me to pick on this sentence:

"throwback to the days of Metroidvania on the NES"

Metroidvania was never a game, rather a genre that started with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the Playstation.

So quite, quite far from the NES days. Unless you're calling the game Metroid "Metroidvania".

Darned kids these days! GIT ORF OF MY LAHN!

There, that feels better. Have a nice evening, everybody.

Cheers!

The text, yes. But what about the person who wrote the original article? Has he been properly flogged?

Cheers!

No and he won't be :) Sorry but not everyone grew up with a NES since in Poland they weren't all that available at the time :P

Well, I grew up with the Mega Drive.

Have it your way, but a nice flogging every now & then never hurt anybody.

*I* have had my share of floggings, lashings & canings on the soles of my feet. I turned out all right, as you can plainly see.

Cheers!

budejovice: Nice release, thanks GOG. It looks really good and I'll give it a shot sooner rather than later.

(Any chance we're getting Interstellaria Friday? The dev [and I] would be thrilled. :)
We're Here To Serve. It's coming :)
Why the hell did I read this as "Outlaws: The Dark Call"? 0_0 I thought for a second, "Woah there was a sequel to Outlaws?"

:D

This looks pretty neat. I'll keep an eye out for reviews.

Smannesman: Looks neat, still waiting for a Shovel Knight sale though :P
I wonder why I've been holding off on buying SK as it seems to be totally my kind of game. Yes, a sale would be nice, but not really necessary for me. That said, from the sound of it the free SK expansion 'Plague of Shadows' which will also be accompanied by the long in waiting challenge mode should be pretty close to the finish line, at least according to the dev's website. Once that comes out I think I'll just buy the damn thing, sale or no sale. ;)

well, hot shit!

can we also get Starbound (when it's done)?
Awesome. I remember thinking this looked really cool when I saw some of the development screenshots of it. Glad it's here.
Windows Vista,7 ..Directx 8, 64MB VRAM? Was someone drunk when posting this? :-D
Very cool release. I will buy in the next few weeks.

I hope we see a release of Evoland 2 here next month.

nice game, not my genre but its a nice release

I saw it on steam last week when i was buying a casual hidden object game , and somehow i thought: this would be a good game to arrive on GOG and here it is.

shadowrun : hongkong the first game is already here so the arriavl of the second game and /or sequels were to be expected

funny thing is they showed up in the explore que on steam where yo can follow the game or never show it again.
maybe a coincidence?
