In this game of thrones, you mutate or you die. Horribly.

Nuclear Throne, a wild roguelike where you mutate your way to the throne of a post-apocalyptic world, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac (with a Linux version also on its way).

Apocalypses tend to be volatile and unpredictable, but if there's one thing you can count on, it's that once they hit, there's going to be a chaotic struggle for supremacy. What better way to get ahead in this race than with flexible mutant powers and an overpowered arsenal at your disposal? The Nuclear Throne is ripe for the taking, so grab one of the 12 available characters, exploit their unique abilities, and exterminate your opponents. Mutate your limbs in imaginative ways and create incredibly fun combos (of powers and weapons) to survive the frozen cities, underground labs, and vast deserts filled with radiation-fueled enemies. Just make sure to wash your hands afterwards. Assuming you even have hands.

So go out on a limb here and let radiation grant you the power to claim the Nuclear Throne, DRM-free on GOG.com.

PLEASE NOTE: Daily and Weekly challenges are NOT available in the current version of the game but will be added in the future.

Crosmando: Also why is this not on GOG yet?

Ganni1987: I contacted the dev a few weeks about getting this on GOG, haven't received any reply. I hope it makes it here one day as it looks like a really good game.
There is always the free version to tide us over until that happens.

Obviously it's too nich-- well, you get the idea.

Marioface5: Since Vlambeer is still doing business with GOG, I wonder if we'll finally get that infamous Luftrausers update.

From the Luftrausers entry on fronzelneekburm's "Games that treat GOG customers as second class citizens" GOGmix:

"A bug prevents the completion of this game. "The fix came out just days after the game was released... on Steam. The devs have not made the effort to release a full update to all platforms as they told me they were doing." (ForsakenEagle)"

tremere110: Actually they never fixed that bug. It still exists in the steam version as well. The devs said they would fix it as soon as they finished Nuclear Throne - but I'm not holding my breath.

[EDIT] However, I don't think "we don't care about our game at all" is much better than "we don't care about the GoG version".
I'm not saying I don't believe you, but do you have a link to where they came out and said it?

In addition to the messed up launch of this game here on GOG, Vlambeer's attitude towards Luftrausers (which I otherwise really liked) has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Who's to say that there's not a similar game breaking bug in this game that they say they'll fix after their next game is out?
I recall watching Jim Sterling playing this a bit... not sure if it's something i'd play, but we'll see.
Well that took longer than expected...

On Steam, there is a beta patch that fixes the issue. I caved and bought the game (on sale, at least) on Steam to try it and finished the problem mission using the beta patch. However, they sure are taking their sweet time to package it into an official patch. Rami Ismail is saying it is not fixed for Steam and GOG because they haven't bothered to release an official patch for the game even though the fix does indeed exist. With Nuclear Throne out of the way, maybe he'll be good on his word and get it over with. Better late than never, I guess.

Nuclear Throne looks interesting. I'll wait for a good sale, though. $12 is a lot to ask for all things considered.

Crosmando: It's such a shame that these "rogue-lites" have become more prolific and popular than actual roguelikes. Yet more evidence that the majority of gamers have bad taste.

I share some of your annoyance (especially when it comes to the terminology), but I'm not sure it's such a bad thing. The overwhelming success of roguelites is the reason behind the surge in interest for actual roguelikes. All these free (and mostly Free) games getting "Steam releases" likely wouldn't have happened if the only audience were the same people who've played them since the eighties. It's a shame that some will likely never get into roguelikes proper, but for the rest, roguelites might serve as a gateway drug, and the popularization of (some of) the mechanics makes it easier to adjust to the actual thing.

Speaking of game store releases, I don't see the point. People who don't play games if they're not on Steam, those I get. They're mentally troubled people, it cannot be helped. But in the DRM-free / not tied to a single vendor land, just download the game and donate if you enjoy it.

I have luftrausers on steam and can confirm the bug exists there. Don't have the GoG version but not willing to spend money on a broken product to try either.

Reminds me of The Chaos Engine, so I'll probably pick it up when it goes on sale. Not trying to be a cheapskate, just not interested enough for it at this price.

If I remember right, right-click the game in your Steam library and select 'properties'. Open the 'beta' tab and in the drop down menu select 'prerelease'. Allow the game to update from the download menu if it doesn't download automatically.
No. I'm not getting burned again. Go fix your overdue bugs in your previous games before I consider buying another.

Did that, bug is still there. The dev even said it wasn't fixed so... I'm going to assume the dev is correct.

Yeah, is fixing that problem really that big of a time-sink for them? Someone mentioned that a beta-patch exists. How much more work could it possibly be to go one more step and make an official patch? I get that there are hours of testing that would need to be done for it, but really, in the grand scheme of things, a little show of good will would go a long way. Reputation has great value, but it needs to be earned.

Please keep in mind that fixing bugs is not a primary concern in this wretched world. Our brave, valiant knight Sire Rami will not concern himself with such minuscule matters until every last villainous #gamergater has been slain in glorious Twitter-combat.
So I should approach the Australian government and say why not build that nuclear waste dump that no one wants next to my house. Little will they realise they are just fuelling my rise to power :)
