I already have my Collector's Edition here but good to see it arriving here as well!

I haven't played much of it as of now however as another obscure but fantastic RPG for another quite unusual platform (for the TI-99/4A) was released in December: Realms of Antiquity. A fantastic game full of exploration, interesting quests and locations and literally hundreds of hours of gameplay. I can't recommend it enough and it deserves to be known to a wider audience. It comes, similar to Nox Archaist, prepared with an emulator and a simple exe-file to start so there is no fiddling with emulators necessary.

Observations from the trailer:
* Character creation has you choosing gender and race. There is an "other" option for gender.
* The game keeps track of food. (Anyone know what happens when you run out?)
* It also keeps track of the time of day.
* Conversations are handled in a manner similar to Ultima 4/5. Character recruitment even works the same way.
* Combat looks similar to Ultima 3-5.

(Nothing about the growth system can be gleaned from the trailer, though each race does have its bonus, and the game does appear to have skills, since some races give bonuses to a skill. Also, nothing about the magic system.)

Looking at more screenshots:
* There are levels and XP. An MP stat is visible. HP is fairly high (71 for level 3 dwarf); higher than D&D, lower than Ultima 1-4, comparable to Utlima 5.
* Looks like the game has rest anywhere (at least on the world map).

(Curious as to how attributes and skills increase, whether spells need anything other than MP to use, and whether MP regenerates.)

Looks like they're fine with distributing it on their own, at least for now.
Made a wishlist entry anyway, just in case.

Thank you GOG. This is a GOOD get.
Brings back memories of my "Ultima" days back in the 80's. Still have the floppies, cloth maps and spell books. It's weird (and wonderful) to see this game knowing I don't need DosBox to run it!

Buy it and stop staring at the trailer and screenshots while salivating. You know you'll like it.
Anyone familiar with Ultima 3-4-5 will be at home. Basically the controls are the same. The game is emulated.
What I have noticed is that the bundled exe emulator runs the game slightly laggy and slow and apparently there is no configurator at all for tweak things.

Obviously the only way to see if it is normal is trying the game with an external emulator. But today I am too lazy, I have just played the game five minutes to test the app. Has anybody tested it more extensively or with an external emu?

EDIT: Solved it myself. Via mouse in the left corner of the screen you can modify video option ingame. I guess it will be the scaling, resolution etc...

EDIT2: Nop. The options change fullscreen/windowed and the scanlines. Nothing about scaling or performance.

Shift + Ctrl + H will bring up the emulator help screen.
You can use Shift + Ctrl + W; release then press 5 within 2 seconds to max emulator speed. It's a turn based game so the only downside is fast animation speed. You can adjust with a lower number.

There's also (I assume) the downside of more CPU usage, which could be undesirable on some systems. (It can cause the system to run hotter, turning on fans and possibly overheating poorly cooled systems, and it can use more power, causing the battery (if the computer has one) to run out faster.)

Thanks for the info.
Yes I have discovered other keystrokes for colour/mono graphics, amber, etc, or rendering modes (dot,voxels...). I will try some of them. For now any of them changes performance though

Greetings
It looks like it was made in the Adventure Construction Set.
Apparently the default emulator used by the game is too much for my poor laptop. It looks great, modern and have its options. Pretty advanced. But it runs laggy and with some kind of delayed movement when pressing keys. It uses around 38 and 40 per cent of my CPU. And the slowness is noticeable.

I have tested the game with the lighter AppleWin emu and it runs as it should. No lag or slowness. The savestates are not lost so, for now, I will stay with AppleWin to run the game.

It as Less options but is more stable on my rig. Damn.. I need to upgrade my computer right now. An Apple IIe game put on the knees my laptop :D

Out of curiosity, what are that laptop's specs?

A fantastic machine. An AMD APU e-450 Dual Core 1.65 MHz 8G RAM, and a Radeon Videocard with shared memory. Around ten years old. My previous computer died and this one should be something temporal, but it is being forever.
It is a miracle I can run some titles. It is probably the less efficient computer I had in my life :D

Questron being the only one of those i really played...

Maybe i need to try it again. Except the mini-games determines your stats, so i'd have to find the save and hack it.

Also since it's written in BASIC, BCD values would be searched for...
