Wonderful, I've been waiting/hoping for a GOG release of this.

v1989: For me it seems more like the Settlers or Knights and Merchants.
avatar
Mafwek: Settlers was my fist reaction as well, even though I never played those games.
Watched gameplay, it seems more like city builder than an RTS.
avatar
ConsulCaesar: Very nice! Looks like Age of Empires with Vikings.

Why so many DLCs though? How much content does each one add?

Also, I second the question: is the game already complete or will there be even more DLC?
Settlers and Banished are much better points of comparison than Age of Empires or C&C.
This is much more of a survival oriented city builder than a war game.

BranjoHello: Very interesting zone control RTS. Also quite challenging on higher difficulties for those with slower reaction times.
Argh! So is this one of those RTS games where you can't slow the game down yourself, or give orders in paused mode?

I hate RTS games like that. Single-player RTS games should not be about your eye-hand coordination skills and how many times per second you can click on the mouse. Yeah I know competitive Starcraft 2 multiplayer is about that, that's why I am not playing it...

The only thing worse than "speed RTS games" are RTS games with frequent time-limits (ie. "win the enemy in 30 minutes, or lose and start from the beginning").

SeduceMePlz: So no pause to assess and issue orders then?
It's been some time since I played the game, but I'm pretty positive you can't pause it. Maybe you can in Story mode (Campaign) or that mode is fine paced so that you don't really need it. But Skirmish against 3 AIs is hell even on Medium difficulty.

Yeah, I would like an option to pause as well (in tough situations when it's needed) but as long as you don't aim to play in highest difficulty or against too many AIs in Skirmish, I'd say it's manageable.

If you're the type of player that values Campaign the most, this game definitely won't disappoint you.
I managed to completed Story Mode in Normal and Hard difficulties and completed all Bonus Objectives. And I'm not a youngster with hummingbird's beating hearth capable of playing competitive RTS games. ;)
First question is what are the "online features" mentioned (that Galaxy is required for). Just multiplayer or is it a game where the single player experience is hampered by being offline too? :/

multi player and achievement tracking by the looks of it.
Glad to see this here.

Played some skirmish on console and quite enjoyed it... but... it was pretty darn hard, even on normal difficulty. Didn't get to try story mode.

I played this a bunch on Steam some time ago. It's well-done; if you think it looks interesting to you, go for it.

Vythonaut: It looks quite nice, but the whole DLC / modular thing puts me off.
The DLC is mostly if you're playing multiplayer or if you're heavily into single-player skirmishes, and want more clans to experiment with. Honestly you're better off just buying the base game, and if you really like it, buy a few DLCs later. There aren't any game features locked behind DLC; the base game is complete with out them. I bought at least two of them, and they're fine but not necessary.

Nicole28: Is there a random map mode in singe-player, or is it campaign only?
It has random maps.

No, it's not like that. There's no real need to slow or pause the game since you only ever control a handful of units at a time. It's nothing like Age of Empires, Starcraft, etc. For all I know it may actually have pause, at least in single-player, but I can't remember since I never needed it.

It's only for multiplayer. Specifically there's both standard matches and co-op, though the co-op was added more recently and I haven't played it.

I can't imagine wanting to play this on a console, using a gamepad. I can see that it would be somewhat more feasible compared to a more typical RTS game, but still, it really kinda needs a mouse.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do enjoy skirmish matches in RTS games; it's what I usually spend my time on after I finish the campaign. Also, variety is king when it comes to strategy games, especially when each faction requires a different approach / playstyle. It's a good thing that there aren't any gameplay features locked behind the DLCs though. Anyway, i'll look into it in detail later, but I don't think I'll pull the trigger unless the game's nothing short of excellent.
Looks really cool but sadly I don't have the system to run it right now but once I upgrade this is a game to buy then.

what answer would make you less bitter? ;)

edit: but in any case I hope the game sells decently, despite already having been on Steam for a little over 2 years.

Ah, real-time and no pause. But it looks like I could have a lot of fun with it and the comments give me hope I don't necessarily need pause. So, bought.
