A cultivated student is the perfect fertilizer for society's growth. Or something.

No Pineapple Left Behind, a playful insight into the fruitless methods of modern education management, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac, and Linux, with a 10% launch discount.

Do you remember that kid from junior high who reminded you of a pineapple? Always eager to please the teacher, sit quietly through classes, take tests, and compare grades? For a school principal, this is the stuff of dreams. But because life is a cruel hag, he is usually stuck with *human* children instead. Ugh. Well, thankfully, this travesty is finally coming to an end!

See, running a school is no child's play. The little devils are unruly, demanding, unpredictable beings. But pineapples express no desires and exhibit no tendencies towards insubordination. Good grades and unquestionable obedience are profitable for the school, so as a sensible businessman, your job is to turn children into pineapples and not ever let them change back. Some parents may raise concerns and you've also got the teacher's work schedules, the students' curriculums, and the needs of your staff to manage, but with spells like "Trigonomancy" at your disposal, this should be easier than reciting the alphabet. It starts with a "p", right?

Weed out the bothersome students and fill your buzzing classrooms with compliant fruit in the satirical manager/simulation No Pineapple Left Behind, DRM-free on GOG.com. And if you enjoy the whimsical sound of studious pineapples, make sure to also grab the game's OST. The 10% launch discount will last until February 25, 4:59 PM GMT.

DancingEngie: Yes, yes it is. This is the main inspiration of the game.

drealmer7: I figured it was the inspiration, given the title and subject matter. Very smatr.

Oooof, I can't believe it's still an existing program. My goodness, how horrible.

Someone should do something about that (other than make a game satirizing it that is, which I commend.)

As a professional weirdo, I'm real happy this is here.

Hunh.

I'm unlikely to buy this game as it appears to be less of an actual game and more of a heavy-handed political message. I'm assuming "raise taxes on the rich" is the eventual end-game goal that turns all the pineapples back into children so they can live happily in a utopian future, striving happily for the benefit of most glorious leader, neh?

damnit, this game has moved right onto the WL and up in interest quite a bit!!...

I hate sims in general!!! but only because I generally find them boring (I love dungeon keeper, and prison architect has gone back and forth as a "hmmm should I add this to my WL" game since it released)...this looks like the exceptional exception!

vicklemos: If you could see my face now you'd jump off your chair, sir. I'm pissing myself in both laughter in here since I just saw the release trailer and heard the theme song. Another masterpiece. I'm speachless!
As a father/ex-teacher now I really wish a zapper like this one ;D

One more thing: what's with the pineapples? Are they the brainless fruit ever? To me, it's a metaphore for "hey now you don't have anymore desires of your own nor fun and you're a part of the 'system' now, kiddo. Be a pineapple, be another brick in this juicy wall".
Riiiiight? :D

Thanks!

DancingEngie: Sorry, didn't notice that comment there.

During our (failed) Kickstarter campaign, we created a video answering this question, which you can see here. Basically, the pineapples are a reference to a reading comprehension test concerning a short story called "The Hare and the Pineapple", which perplexed many students, teachers and parents.
Amazing! Thanks for the clarification.
Truly unique, and I mean it. Will watch the video later on ;)

rampancy: I'd say so, since the main person behind this game was a public school/charter school teacher himself, and his motivation behind making this game was his experience in the US education system.
Yup I'll see the video, no worries... Well, it's all much like a prison afterall ;)

ps: working with education in South Korea. Tough task, eh?

(Well, for a certain meaning of 'insta'. The site works terribly for me.)

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Also, first time I've seen a "yellow".

DancingEngie: Hey, I'm the UI designer for this game. Anyone has any questions?
mmm, I don't know why but I'm guessing the game could have been made in Unity by looking at screenshots and trailer as it feels very familiar.... :o)

Anyway, for example at 1'35'' in the trailer where there is a whole view of the school with some UI elements on some locations, I don't know if the school prefab is always the same but if it's modular, did you made the infos bars ("success" with calss rating and number of pupils) as "children" of the gameobjects so they can get display "relatively" to their "parent" gameobject? Just out of curiosity because I haven't tried that yet ^o^

BTW, it would be great if your team or GOG could send a gift code of the game to our fellow user "p1na" as he loves pineapples :o)

Well no not quite. The eventual goal is to despair that anything can ever be better.
Good luck to the devs and there will be some who are into this :). (GOG how is this NOT a niche product?)

Question: Is this only based on the shortfallings of the USA education system, or is this a game where all education systems are equally potshot?

If I'm not mistaken, he/she (it ?) did the same in one of the other release of this week. Looks like the game(s) he/she/they wanted has been refused by GOG curation and we can expect this kind of message for every non-AAA game published on GOG in the coming days.
Looks fantastic.....going to buy it tonight when I get home. Looking forward to playing it.
Thank you GoG and thank you wonderful Developers ! :)
