UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

blotunga: I wonder if this is the advertised AAA game that was supposed to come day 1 here.

park_84: I wouldn't think of this as an AAA game...
Agreed. This is an indie game. The development team is about 15 people AFAIK.

I did buy this, even though I almost never buy $60 games. Won't be home from work for about 6 hours though.

I also bought a video card this week, partly for this game. Though I needed one anyway, to do Witcher 3 justice among other things.

wizisi2k: windows 10 here. no problem launching. Norton wants to block it though. Game says I'm offline too. What gives there.

BKGaming: I am having this issue, but it's not that big of a deal to me. I mean the game not connecting online.
I believe it might be due to either 1 of 2 things: 1-server overload. 2: we're not @1.03 patch

No it is not, they couldn't have made it more clear that it isn't No Man's Sky.

AeronWarcliffe: I stayed up until 3am local time in order to install and play this as soon as i possibly could... Currently, any time i try to open the game, it stops working immediately. All i have seen of the game so far is the Hello Games logo.
Same issue here a lot of users on steam with same issue (also 3am for me not happy) Logo crash to desktop
Can you turn off all the online features (other people renaming planets and species etc?) I don't want to buy the game if that guff can't be disabled. The GOG specs didn't say it needed to be online (and that would be a form of DRM in some ways), but other places implied it was always online whether you want that or not. Thanks!
"When people 1st started talking about this game it sounded great, an indie space explorer with a (I assumed) indie price tag. And from the reviews I've seen the game is very close to the original idea. But some Sony PR took over marketing and trying to regain the costs turned it into a AAA game, developed by (and with the money) of a small indie studio. This game should have never gotten this much hype. "

I think this guy's on point. Basically, you're all paying 40$ for the hype played out to you prior release.

Nevertheless I salute each one buying this because it indeed IS revolutionary in the department of seamless planet to planet travel.

You can play offline, it just means you won't be able to sync with the database universe between players
Perhaps this might help with the crash on startup issue:

Biggest issue reported so far is players without the Visual C++ Redist 2010. First PC patch released already! Update and restart if needed

Number two issue so far is players who have out of date GFX drivers, or none installed. Please install latest drivers from AMD and nVidia.

Number three please make sure your GFX card is above the min spec. OpenGL 4.5 is required to play No Man's Sky

edit:
changed the old link to a better thread with different approaches to solve the crashing problem
added dev tweets

Please tell me your forum presence means people have hung around the GOG office to get the new patch out to us! :)

Completely true that it's got a $40 hype charge. Also, this is exactly the type of game that will drop to $30 within 6 months.

I bought it anyway. ;-)

djar: NMS.exe - screen flashes - nothing happens. :-(
Running AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, Win 10 x64, Radeon R9 280X. I get the splash screen saying Hello Games, then crash to desktop. Fun times!
Tried this a while ago and still don't work. Hundreds of posts on steam of people having issues (Crash to desktop at Hello Games Logo). Mainly seems to be AMD CPU's but not exclusively some intel also. I have AMD CPU
I've had a lot a fun in the hour that I have played. First planet was a radiated one, trying to not die while repairing ship was fun in itself. Lol
Just a note folks,

Please ensure that your drivers are up to date, and that VC2013 C++ and VC2010 Service Pack 1 redistributables are installed. These are included with the installers, but it doesn't hurt to double check.

We're keeping an eye on this and will aim to get any patch or fixes out ASAP.

Also, the patch deployed on Steam is specifically a Steam related issue and does not affect our version.

All I get is a blank black screen... Although thinking about it, that's a pretty reasonable representation of infinite space. Well played Murray, gg.
