UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

What I will probably do is just wait a few weeks till there is a patch. :(

PC is well within Min spec.

How can we check which OPENGL we have in case that is the problem for crash on boot ?
There is a program you can get called "glview" that will query your system and give you all of the OpenGL stats. Might be on your system already; if not you can download it.

The OpenGL comes with your video card driver. I would recommend just updating to the latest.

sumeetvc: Pre-ordered this game for my boy and myself. Now, I am trying to find the download link in my account and I cannot see it!

Has GOG taken this game off?
It's got to be there somewhere. But don't get too excited because it's about 50/50 if it'll fire up for you without a patch.

djar: NMS.exe - screen flashes - nothing happens. :-(
You discovered a supermassive black hole and died instantly. Oops!

skeletonbow: Also, it was originally advertised as being multi-player although primarily a single-player game. Now it is being advertised as single-player only.
As far as I know, Hello Games never said this game was multiplayer. Sean even explicitly said it wasn't months ago; I've watched every interview I know of with him and I think he was very clear about how the game worked.
Have you considered not having a MASSIVE splash page for NMS, considering the PC version runs like a slow thing caught in jello?

Thanks for that. I got GLViewer.
I checked everything is spot on. My OpenGL is the one it needs. So it's not that. I am also above min spec on an i7.

I'll wait for the patch by the looks of it.

Keep checking the Hello Games site. They're working on it.
low rated
Maybe GoG could feature a heartfelt bio on Sean Murray, and how he overcame the devastating death threats on Twitter to release the most ambitious space sim of our time.
This game has been a major victim of the "hate it because it's popular" hipster crowd. The type of people who jump on the bandwagon so they can pretend they have an informed and intelligent argument then call everyone else mindless fanboy. Any legitimate issues and criticisms are mixed in with the noise. Couple that with people who were anticipating a game that was never promised to begin with.

I got exactly what the devs said they were going to give. NMS is a single-player space exploration game. Me? I was just excited to have a game where you can hop into a ship, fly from the surface of a planet into space, and warp drive to other planets. Having adventure elements, lore, mild survival elements, space stations, fixing abandoned ships, space pirates, and Homeworld-like art style is all icing on the cake. I wasn't expecting FreeSpace level dogfightng, Halo level action shooting, or alien planets with anything more than animals, plants, and ruins for company. I was celebrating a major release focusing exclusively on a single-player experience.

Glad to see the developers are at the ready to take care of release day issues. Once the critical bugs are fixed and rough parts ironed out, the ratings will rise dramatically. If enjoying a game that others don't like makes me a fanboy, then I am a proud fanboy. :)

Yeah, I sure hope so. I don't plan to buy the game any time soon but would like to play it at some point in time. It would be sad to see the game flop outright though after all of the previous excitement and hype about it. I hope the devs can quickly fix the biggest issues and get patches out to their customers ASAP and do some damage control. I do not envy their workloads and pressure at the moment. I do hope that the issues get resolved and it starts getting good reviews though.

One question: Is there any moderation done on planet names (and any similar features)?

For example, if somebody names a planet something offensive (like, for example, "nigger"), and another player sees it and reports it (is there a function in-game to do this?), what happens?

Looked everywhere and can't find it. It showed up as preorder for weeks. Now that it is released it has disappeared totally. I've looked in browser and GOG galaxy. Very frustrating.
