Death becomes you.

NECROPOLIS, a merciless action/roguelite where death is its own reward, is available now for single-player gameplay on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Who doesn't enjoy a spectacular, brutal, educational death? Especially if it's permanent, which means all your hard-earned or crafted gear, your elixirs, and any trust you had in your friends now lie shattered on the floor of an accursed, constantly-shifting dungeon.
But it also means that you get to start fresh, armed with more knowledge, better-honed skills, new tools, and unlockable abilities. So you've got no excuse if you die again. And again. And again. And one time after that. Then two more. Yes that's it, you're getting the hang of this now.

The GOG.com release currently supports single-player mode and offline functionality on Windows. OS X support, as well as GOG Galaxy support for achievements & multiplayer is coming in the near future. Stay tuned for updates from GOG.com and Harebrained Schemes.

Grab NECROPOLIS, the unforgivingly cheeky dungeon-crawler, DRM-free on GOG.com

Word on the street:
"Turns out life after death is pretty deadly :/ " - Random adventurer
"Do you feel lucky, punk?" - Random monster
"Nope, I do not."- Dark Souls veteran
Impressions haven't been particularly positive with this one. Apparently, the combat is pretty crappy. Wanted to believe it was better than it looked in the trailers, but alas.

Niggles: Looks nice. Is there any sort of end game to this? game length etc? (price is a bit steep for me...)
I refunded the game on steam just a little bit ago.
I really wanted to love this game but there's just issues I couldn't live with.
Here's some of my cons and pros.

Pros
- Combat is fun, some say it feels too light with no feel of impact on the swings but that was no issue for me
- The game is aesthetically good, it's visually pleasing to look at.
- Good controller layout(Almost identical to dark souls controls and works well)
- Controls are responsive
- Fairly good variety of weapons with different abilities that are fun to use

Cons
- Lacks content vs its price:
- Only 1 character, they plan to add more if it sells well in expansions(which will not be free)
- Only 10 levels(floors)
- The game is too easy, you've nearly got an infinite supply of heals, you can kill enemies all in the same method(hit once or twice and dash backwards, repeat it on nearly every enemy in the game)
- The AI is.. bad, they simply run directly towards you if they detect you(Walking against pillars until they slide around the corner, etc)
- Framerate is pretty unstable, it's a unity game so it probably won't run well for many other people, it runs fine in some areas, but in other areas(such as the swamp biome) there's a lot of framedrops.
- You don't unlock many things from your runs(Skins, unlocked abilities and tokens used to purchase some things)
- No multiplayer cross-play between gog and steam(which is why I ended up buying on steam because it'd probably have the bigger playerbase but I ended up refunding it anyway)
- You don't save your progress if you play as the client with a host, the host basically keeps your character so the next time you play with that host you play that same character again(I believe you do keep your earned gems and tokens)

So as you can tell, the game has a bunch of problems, I reached level 5 with no difficulty or challenge before I refunded the game.

I hope they sort these problems out and I'd be willing to buy it again, I also don't like the fact that they want to release the expansions for a price, the base game is already pricey as it stands.(see Kingdom for example, they're selling their game for about 15 bucks if I remember correctly and they're giving those who bought it a free expansion this month)

It really is a shame, I wanted to really love this game because this is exactly the kind of game I've been wanting to play so I hope they sort things out.

Edit
Just realized I pretty much wrote up pretty much a review here, not sure if that breaks any rules though I can't find any rule like that, just to be sure.

yogsloth: Procedurally generated levels; permadeath.

I guess that's really all there is anymore.
I'm here to offer you great deal!
We're launching new campain on kickstarter! It's zombie-online-shooter that have procedurally generated world and permadeath. It's free to play with optional microtransactions. We plan to stay in Early Access for only two years. People who bake us for more than 50$ will recieve 50 zombie dicks in game (that's our optional microtransaction currency). Thank you for your time!!!!
Does Necropolis have an in-game map?

Really? So it's basically: "Please buy our [apparently] overpriced game. If you support us enough, we'll give you another chance of paying us even more for something that really should be part of the main game . . . Oh, and thank you by the way. [Of course with a shameless smiley.] :)"

I'm not against paid DLC, if a team deserves it. Here, the fact that their game is apparently overpriced, but they're still asking for more money is quite something.

Are you sure you did not mean CakeGiver? :P
Permadeath: Check! Random procedural level generation: Check! Questionable performance due to use of Unity: Check!

Well thats good to know. Its a shame really that Harebrained Schemes released such a game that seems to be lacking in many areas after their successful Shadowrun games. And reading Steam reviews seems that the game got only the aesthetics going for it with rest of the game seems to be ... basic. Oh well money saved.

Apparently, it's not all that polished of a game (it doesn't even have key rebinding, FFS!)... especially knowing that the GOG edition doesn't have coop... :/

Too bad, I had interest in this.

Marioface5: "Daily and Weekly challenges are NOT available in the current version of the game but will be added in the future."

None of those things are available yet, and the game has received no updates on GOG in the six months it has been available here.
Wait no updates? O_o
Doesn't it get constant updates on Steam?

I'm pretty sure there's only been one update for the Steam version since the GOG release. That update was in February, but GOG never got it. It might have gotten constant updates when it was in Early Access, but things have slowed down a lot since release.

Yeah, looks like it was in February/
I watched some videos, the game seems really boring after 20 minutes or so :S

Too easy? Err... okay. That's sorta unexpected. How do you have an infinite supply of heals? I had the impression you had to find/buy food to heal and that was under RNG of the level.

Or maybe TB's overview of the game he really is just that bad at those types of games. He has said he can't cover Dark Souls or it's cousins because he's bad at those games. And I'm probably in the same boat, so what might be easy for you is outright annoying or controller rage throwing for a lot more people.

TodaysLoneWolf: It looks really interesting, as it scratches that Eldritch itch. But $30.00 USD, technical issues at day one, along with massive hardware requirements? I'm wishlisting this for now.
The game looks graphically like it should be on par with PS2 games. Certainly it's stylistic and the polygons aren't as blocky as some 3D games of that time, but it's a little high. Doesn't appear it would need high physics, graphics, or anything heavily computational. Curious...

You can craft food but the ingredients are so common that you can just keep crafting it as you kill enemies, before my refund on level 5, I was able to craft another 20 Iron Rations not to mention I still had restoration potions left which I was also able to craft pretty easily, I genuinely never ran out of food.
