Steam users say no Sandbox Mode...It's true?
Sandbox is great to play endlessly ^^
Looks really good! I'm loving how much attention this old city builder formula is getting
I love city builders, so this is up my alley. Trying to decide if I want to splurge on this now, or wait until I have time to play it. (Since I decided to back to school, that will be on the 30th of never).
Game is NOT GOOD.

There are no challenges in this game.

NO fires.
NO collapse.
NO military.
NO unrest.
NO wages.
NO consequences for not fulfilling requests.
NO time constraints.

While graphics are great there are NO city ambient sounds. Make it seem depressing and sterile.

This is more Lethis and not Pharaoh. Buyer beware!

Whelp, that doesn't sound so good.

It's something that I get the impression indie developers often fail to realize - the actual game design of those old games they are trying to replicate/re-image is actually extremely good and not so easy to rival.

ConsulCaesar: Nice release! Mesopotamia deserves more games. I hope this one does it justice.

The monuments look wonderful.
Well said. The game has amazing looks.

Yeah, that's unfortunate because my first thought was updated Caesar 2/3 in an underutilized setting equals win sauce. Caesar wasn't good because it happened to be isometric, it was good because it had great and complex city builder mechanics.

I confronted the developer with the missing features (sandbox and scenarios) and thats the answer, because advertised as an official feature available at launch (in the offcial FAQ):

"Currently the game has the campaigns but scenarios are still under work and will be there in the future (although we do not know when yet, you can be certain it will be in the game). The FAQ is saying it “will” have it. Not it does already and we have never lied about any features or content of the game nor need to. For clarification purposes, we will emphasize this in the FAQ both on the Steam forums and Discord so others do not get potentially mislead about it as well. If this is a deal breaker for you, we are sorry to hear that and we recommend to check back in the future once that is implemented.

Thank you for your interest in the game."

Too bad T_T
Waiting for an update then...
Thanks for bringing the news here.

Guess I'll put it in my 'watch for later updates' bucket. This sort of thing is why the ship-the-beta school of software development irritates me.

amok: How can it be a classic when it was released today?
(classic isometric city builder) game = isometric city builder in classic style.
classic (isometric city builder game) = city builder, that is a classic game.

/nitpicking

It's kinda sad how people choose to misinterpret - admittedly ambiguous - statements like that to project to how they feel cheated in life on just anything. Because that kind of negativity just multiplies and has no positive effect at all, for anybody.

Something like the lack of certain features expected of a game like that (like pointed out by Nalkoden) is valid criticism. People can choose to care about it and avoid, devs can choose to care about it and fix it.

I was going to say that "classic" probably means "has those really annoying walkers that get lost going around the block", but if they got around that by not including those mechanics, I'd personally be fine with that. I'm the one always complaing that builders have too much "challenge" and don't let you just build stuff. But good to know, thanks for the report. I never tried Lethis since it didn't work on my old system (that only has max 512MB video memory integrated GPU), but maybe I should. This one seems to have the same requirements as Lethis that is at least more resonable almost six years later, although it seems like they should be able to make this type of game work on any system without too much trouble (at least with smaller display sizes).

GOG seems to have been saving up all the new games I want to release them at the same time :/.

I remember the old ones starting each level (or most levels at least?) with an empty map and was almost sandbox other than needing to gather resources. Is this one not like that? (Also, thanks for asking the developer and posting the reply. I'm just curious how whatever is included right now works.)

Interesting defense. Before release they create FAQ in which they claim some features "will be" in the game, but after release that "will be" is still correct.
