Ride the lightning.

MX vs. ATV Unleashed, a classic, fun-focused arcade racer, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

Remember the days of motocross racing, golf carting, and plain ol' flying across dusty, muddy, entirely unwelcoming but somehow irresistible tracks? It was fast-paced, it was simple, and it was all too satisfying. Now the PS2-era offroad racing magic is back, exactly as you remember it, ready for your modern PC. Between dozens of vehicles, including weird ones and flying ones (there's a monster truck, a helicopter, and biplane), every track in the game offers a ton of challenge to master in every available vehicle, all wrapped up in a neat package with the word "fun" plastered all over.

This release also includes with the custom track editor, so really, the fun never has to stop until you do. So whatever you do, keep moving.

Don't stop till you drop in MX vs. ATV Unleashed, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com
Not interested. Some will be happy but this release makes me wonder whether this is more niche game compared to stuff like the Hegemony series?

Zoidberg: Cool.
Ho... ly... shit ;)

Sorry had to rib you a bit there ;)

IronArcturus: That's too bad. :-/ But what about Xbox 360 controllers? Can they be configured to run the game?

philarmitage: It works nicely with my controller - all axis and buttons mapped how I want them.
Thanks for the info!

Also, have you tried the track editor? How does it work?

Grargar: ThomNG is again absent from the thread.
I am always here (except when I am not here :P ) but just really busy on the latest and upcoming releases (MX vs. ATV Supercross Encore and Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition) - and just returned from my vacation so it's an even more busy time ;)

Hope you enjoy the release of Unleashed and be sure that we are working closely together with GOG to bring more titles to this great platform :)

Cheers

I always love it when my summons work! :D

Anyway, hope you had a nice vacation, ThomNG and we're waiting for more releases from Nordic. Maybe, a nice Christmas surprise...

philarmitage: I've played Reflex a lot and this for only 10 minutes but they seem very similar to me so far in terms of how they play (modes, physics, etc) but, crudely put, this has PS2/XBox level models and textures whereas Reflex has PS3/360 level models and textures. I'm sure there are more differences than that but I'm very happy with this game.

I hope to replace my Reflex Steam copy with a GOG copy in the future too!
Yes, Reflex has better graphics, but this one has much more variations to play, not to mention different "vechicles" on ground and air.

Rib the zoidberg? Ouch...

On the subject, well, it seems like an ok release, I don't know the game though, so it may be shit. :D
Every "new" racing game is a nice addition.

The only downside is that for motocross, GTA 5 (and GTA Online particularly) kind of takes the cake for people who like to run their bike off-road in the wide wilderness and do some crazy stunts....

In that regard, "FUEL" would be a nice addition for all off-road lovers.... Please GOG, make it happen!
One of the true successors to Motocross Madness, and in my opinion one of the best of the series. I spent ages playing this back in the day. Great to see it here, had to get it immediately. Hope to see more of these! Racing games have drifted a bit into the background on GOG lately.
Rather odd that there isn't a single ATV to be found in the screenshots. I mean, I guess you can't show everything, but that's like half of the title right there, you know?

well, I would rather see helmet cam view screenshot (if exists) ... personally hate third person view in racing games..

Yes! FUEL was an incredibly unique racing game! It had to be the first exploration racing game I've ever played! It would be great if GOG could get it!
I'll take the chance and make a small tribute to some of the best racing games that we still miss here on GOG. If you find them interesting, make sure you'll vote for them in the GOG wishlist! ;)

Richard Burns Rally (arguably, one of the best rally sims, if not the best)
https://youtu.be/lSd9-WCZP40

Grand Prix Legends (historical F1 racing sim, still my favourite)
https://youtu.be/6JoYCyK2xuY

Nascar Racing 2003 Season (the best NASCAR sim - the newer ones pale in comparison)
https://youtu.be/ybAWEYJAtek

Viper Racing (more "arcadey" than the rest but still very detailed physics / features an easy arcade mode as well as a quite hard simulation mode)
https://youtu.be/VcSCd2Oom10

GTR 2 (the best GT racing simulation)
https://youtu.be/tiK0PYdfmMI

EA's SBK 2001 (One of the greatest motorcycle racing games)
https://youtu.be/ALWgqCWntvY

Microprose's GP500 (The best MotoGP sim, miles ahead the current "games".)
https://youtu.be/dZ2rJxRAiRA

As a bonus, check out GPBikes from PiBoSo. A truly great simulation.

Not a single one of these games will ever come to GOG. Why not? Because of licensing issues with real-life cars and car brands. We won't see any of the SEGA Rally or Outrun games aswell. BLUR? Need for Speed series? No. Rally games with licensed cars? Formula 1 games? No ...

So, what games could come to GOG? Well ...

FUEL
BIg Red Racing
Split/Second
Xpand Rally series
Ignite
Insane 2
Nail'd
Redline Racer
Zombie Driver
Ridge Racer series (Unbounded has a PC version)
B. C. Racer
Fatal Racing

... and other arcade racers (or simulations), that have fictive cars/vehicles.

I had a group of friends who absolutely loved the game on console. Football Sunday would often turn into an excuse to pass a couple controllers around with this one. I... remember it being decent fun but I was never that huge a racing genre fan - but I think it's a decently regarded console racer that has the wrinkle of using offroad type vehicles instead of the usual supercar fare.
