In the year 2134, if man is still alive...

Mission Critical is now available DRM-free on GOG.com.
You appear to be the only survivor. As your ship was cruising through space on a mission that would potentially end the 50-year-long civil war back on Earth, an attack left you all alone to fix your ship by solving dozens of puzzles, and to keep the nefarious UN at bay at all costs (some rudimentary RTS skills required here). Do you think you can still make it to Persephone and unlock the powers of the enigmatic alien artifact?
Not to be confused with Critical Mission.

GalacticKnight: I have a physical copy that I found battered and bruised back when EB Games was a thing and they had a PC section, shortly before all that changed, and before that I played the demo that came on an old PC Gamer disc, back when PC Gamer cared about PC gaming and gamers in a positive way, over and over again till I could play through it with my eyes closed.

guppy44: Oh how I miss the days of going to a brick and mortar store and perusing the big boxed PC games. I lived on demo discs and had subscriptions to probably most of the PC magazines back then and would read articles and play demos building up my excitement for games. My limited gaming budget at the time meant I really saved for the games I wanted the most and there was no such thing as a backlog. Don't get me wrong, I love the convenience of digital games these days and GOG is a little slice of heaven for my nostalgia, but man, those sweet sweet old days... :D
Well, at least those games were already finished. Not launched half-baked, with the promise of finishing it eventually if the game was successful. Eventually you would get a meaty expansion worth paying for, but the game was complete in features from the start, it was an expansion, not a completion. Also, QA arguably left less bugs and, while now they rely too much on post-launch bug removal.

Eventually post-lanuch patches came to existence, and at first they were great. Now the system is widely abused. As per DLC, and alpha testing you actually pay for ("early access"), everything has been said about it already.
Another old adventure game release? GOG you're making me very happy! To anyone who has played it: does this game have any unwinnable states (dead-ends) or time limits (besides the aforementioned battle sequences)?

PS. (Mandatory repeated wish) Can we have Shivers 1 & 2 released here? Please GOG? :)

As far as I know, there are time limits for some puzzles, but they're very generous. Probably because it's almost impossible to check how much time you have left for a puzzle :P

Haha, nice! Thanks for the info.

edit: For a moment there I thought you were going to answer me about Shivers :P

So, this looks a lot like a Star Trek game without official license. ;-)
Didn't Paramount try to intervene?

Thank you for that! I haven't thought of EB for a long time and appreciate the feeling the memory brings. I very much appreciate the hordes of cheap games I have access to now but the anticipation for a coveted game, perusing, and even holding, the boxes, coming across a long-watched game that was marked down below $20, playing every game right away (no "backlog")--those are unmatched feelings, long gone.
I've been checking to see if GOG would release this for years! I'm so happy that they just released it!

I owned the 3 CD version before and I the game would always crash for me on one spot within the first hour so it will be a bit surreal to finally finish this game.
Putting the O back in GOG! Now, we're talkin'!
Absolutely fantastic, GOG. Just awesome.

The game flows wonderfully. It will be rare that you get stuck, if ever.

You are an officer in a large spaceship and need to operate it on your own, while it was designed for a much more numerous crew. You do what you can, including doing some repairs and bringing some systems back online. Everything is quite logical, thence the ease of the flow with this story.

So it is a good graphic adventure even for people who is not especially fond on them as a genre. Also it will make you think and reflect by the end. You will want to finish it and it will leave you with a good aftertaste.
Instant purchase. Instant. Not waiting for a sale. Not waiting for anything. I saw this and immediately bought it.

Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time, period. This game captured my imagination 100%. It was almost a role-playing experience: I saw through the eyes of this nameless astronaut. I felt his pain and his fear, and I wept at the end when it was all over.

This game is also exceptionally difficult to run on modern computers. God bless you, Gog. This is one of the greatest FMVs of all time, and one of the greatest adventure games, period.

If you're concerned about the RTS portion, the difficulty slider mentioned earlier goes all the way down to, "Have the computer play for me". This is a guaranteed win condition. The other timed puzzle I recall was a network path mini-game that had instant fail points, so it was more annoying than difficult as it required reloads.

Hey, thanks for clarifying this! I will surely give the game a chance soon.
