Piero le Fou.

is now available DRM-free on GOG.com. You can now also grab the game's [url=https://www.gog.com/game/milanoir_original_soundtrack]Soundtrack for your ever-growing collection.
Thanks to a generous benefactor, unlucky no-gooder Piero gets out of jail early, ready to exact his revenge on the fool who set him up. Naturally, things get very complicated very fast, so shooting the pixels out of everybody else will be essential to surviving the mean streets of Milan. Over-the-top action and funky tunes ensue - just like in any good Italian crime romp from the '70s.
The trailer is funny. The voices are too stiff and clean, good for commercials. They don't sound like the 70s italo crime stories films manner of acting. But I guess it's not a problem in-game. So is this some sort of Hotline Milano?

fronzelneekburm: Oh, hell yeah!

I'm a huuuge fan of Italian crime films of the seventies. Di Leo, Lenzi, Milian, Merli,... all that good stuff! So happy to see this here! Instabought!
I love to see someone apparently from China quoting these Italian cinema legends. I wanted to make a joke about how the voices don't sound like Thomas Milian at all, but I thought noone would get it here.
Tarantino...he knows these movies very well.

I've watched a gameplay preview of this one about a year ago. Seems like a bit of a mixture between Hotline Miami and old-school Arcade Sidescrollers. Haven't played it myself, but it looked fun, plus it has ( local only? ) co-op and a reasonable price point.

And since that is always a hot topic around here: Yes, more pixel art. Emphasis on "art", as the graphics in this game actually look very detailed and carefully crafted.

Vythonaut: Quoting first screenshot:

Shoot triangle signs to shoot two enemies with one shot

Vythonaut: Alright, can someone explain the science behind this? Also, do differently shaped signs produce different results? :P
I think the idea is that the projectile splits, as it hits the road sign. Or the sign itself bursts into tiny pieces of metal shrapnel. Maybe neither is a likely scenario when you apply real world physics... but hey, video games!

It happens in movies too; i remember a movie (which i didn't have the chance to watch yet but Mythbusters did an episode about it) where the protagonist was supposed to be able to make a bullet curve around obstacles just by swinging her hand while firing a firearm. Crazy but amusing ideas. :)
Btw this is set in my city XD
Oh cool, none of the art actually matches each other.

It's all different bittage and pixel sizes.

There's your brief visual critique.

It looks a bit better than Party Hard though (which is great fun). I'd like to see a game like with visuals like Shadow Warrior (the new one, duh...) though.

That would be "Wanted", with Angelina Jolie.
Pretty good movie.

I'll refrain from it until it has english audio.

Also, funny, no spanish text. Strange choice.

Nevertheless, when those are added and the game goes on some decent sale, I'll grab it for sure. It's interesting.

low rated
Of bloody course they hire an actual professional artist to paint a nice looking "cover" for this game but the actual in-game visuals are more retropixel hipster wankery.

Yes, I know that was norm for video games in the 80s - but it isn't the 80s anymore.

The cover art is hilarious. It looks like an advertisement for People's Temple. Dude somehow he ended up looking exactly like Jim Jones.

I found this alternate artwork and I honestly think they should use that instead. It just completely nails that seedy Eurocrime feel.
Something tells me I'm gonna love this.

GOG.com: Unlucky no-gooder Piero did the crime and part of the time. Now he's out of jail and ready to exact his revenge on the fool who framed him.
That's very bad writing which makes no sense. If he was framed, then he didn't do the crime. So which is it? The reader can't tell.

fortune_p_dawg: but to balance that, breja, we need a brief visual critique.

Mafwek: I'll try - does the game set in 70's really need to look like it was made in 70's?
Come on, be fair. This game looks more like it was made in the 80-es. Still not good, but at least it has color! :-)
