Developed by Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE takes the renowned METAL GEAR franchise into exciting new territory with an all-new action experience – and it’s now available on GOG, with a -40% launch discount until July 11th, 1 PM UTC!

The game seamlessly melds pure action and epic story-telling that surrounds Raiden – a child soldier transformed into a half-human, half-cyborg ninja who uses his High Frequency katana blade to cut through any thing that stands in his vengeful path.

Now on GOG!
Hey all! Just a quick update regarding some region locks for MGR:

Region locks for METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE are the same as they are on other platforms (e.g. Steam). The game was available to purchase in some of the locked regions yesterday for a brief moment, which was our omission and we apologize for the confusion and any inconvenience that could have been caused by it.

There's a UI mod on PCGaming Wiki for DualShock button prompts, for those that use a PlayStation controller. :)

WildApple24: But why is there a region lock?
avatar
CMiq: Probably only Konami themselves can answer that.

Allegedly it has something to do with the japanese voice over which is not included in the international (and only) PC version and as a result cannot be sold in Asia.
Holy cow, then they should let us prevent the download of the voice over. This is stupid

idbeholdME: Thanks for the thorough explanation. Will probably hold out then until some more MG games arrive here on GOG :)
You're welcome!

By the way, my intention was not to discourage you from playing it. (If that somehow happened :p)
Its an awesome game that do not impact the other games story spoiler-wise.

As explained, it starts after MGS4, but, because it was developed by Platinum Games with liberty from Kojima productions, no previous games events were impacted with its story, so really theres no problem playing it if you're concerned about spoilers.

Edit: Didn't even knew Rising was region locked.. this is really weird.
Why? Is it because of the violence (Rising is heavy on the gory side)?

Do you also know a fix that will remove the mouse pointer in the menus when playing with gamepad?

Haven't looked into it, should I find something I'll let you know. :)

Probably because of some financial or legal reasons. All I know is that it was Konami's decision and that they wanted to look into it when they were approached ... no clear explanation about the "why" anywhere.

I doubt it is because of the violence. Even here in Germany it got its USK rating and we all know that Germany hates violence in videogames.

idbeholdME: How interconnected are the Metal Gear games? Just wondering if one has to have a general idea of the world and story, or if the game is somewhat standalone. Never played a MG game before.
You can dive into Rising as your first MG game. It's a standalone title and most importantly a spin-off with a different focus, vibes and genre compared to the og MG and Solid series. No prior knowledge required.
Another super solid release! Great work GOG :)

Genocide2099: Aside from using a VPN, is there any other legit way of purchasing the game?

I don't believe you'll get in any trouble, though this seems like a "don't ask, don't tell" type of thing. ;) would GOG even know if you used a VPN?

I leave this tip for Hack and slash lovers:

Knights of the Temple - Infernal Crusade:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Temple

Knights of the Temple II:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_the_Temple_II

And I want to take advantage of the post and ask the GOG team to bring these games! =D Come on GOG, they are on Steam and the ZOOM Platform. Now is the time for them to be here too. ;)

Note: Only the first one is on Steam.

Well, if your IP normally says you're in a certain place but then you suddenly appear to move halfway around the world just when you purchase a game that's region locked where you usually are, then appear to return to your normal location right after that, it's not exactly rocket science :)

Good point
I hardly think there's any likelihood of enforcing it, nor do I think GOG has any incentive to police it. You'll be fine, kids.

Isn't that kind of the nice thing about GOG, though? Yes, there's a potential hoop to jump through in buying it, but once you have it? Nobody can take it away from you.
Since the game does a pretty bad job explaining itself in the tutorial I really recommend watching this if you should have trouble with the fighting system.

Reply to the replies I got in page 5 of this topic

to InSaintMonoxide: That is what I was thinking, I was just worried because of that claim

to BreOl72: I do not remember where, it just made me worry. that is why I asked here if it was true

to J Lo: I do not expect a source from an anonymous post in a forum I forgot about I just wanted to get a sort of second opinion here

I will try to not be so easily affected by such claims in the future.
