Domo arigato Mr. Roboto

MechoEcho, a construction puzzle game where you build ingenious robots to overcome obstacles, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Did the world really end? Or is this all an elaborate simulation dreamt up by a powerful machine? That's up to you to discover, by overcoming the obstacles of this puzzle-riddled gauntlet. Your physical body has no bearing here but the rules of physics still very much apply. All the incredible robotic creations that you build will have to obey them, if they are to overcome the obstacles and drive your ethereal self to the end of each level. As the challenges get progressively more daunting, so must your machines keep evolving with more imaginative, versatile, and efficient designs. Humanity's fate rests with you but should it all get too overwhelming, consider taking a step back and experimenting freely in the addictive sandbox mode.

Construct complex robots and let your MechoEcho get carried through the perilous halls of this intricate simulation, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% discount will last until May 25, 6:59 PM UTC.
Looks like Besiege had child with another game.
This has definitely caught my eye. Do I detect a Tron influence here? The slightly hazy graphics and neonish glow look very appropriate and are kinda cool. As for the puzzle sandbox nature of the game, if it works as well as it is advertised and has enough levels/puzzles to keep the interest then this will be a buy for me. Unfortunately, this has to go on my wishlist until the price comes down in a future sale - until then....
This looks really cool, though at the moment I'm still too cautious from Shadwen's Steam-exclusive level editor to buy anything on GOG. It feels like a gamble right now, because who knows if any given game will turn out to be inferior here?

Some Tron influence, yes. :)

I was also really inspired by Another World (although that may be harder to spot since this is a 3d game, and the settings is quite different).

Let me know if you have any questions about the Sandbox!
Overcome obstacles? Dang, I got reminded of a game years years back where you made robo cars using sensors and simple logic and they had to drive/race.

Anyway this seems intersting too, no linux version tho? Anyone tried how it works in wine?

I don't have a question about the sandbox, but I do have a question about the price: Why $18.99? I mean, is there any significance to it, or is it priced that way just for the fun of being different, or what? This isn't a complaint or anything, I'm just curious.

When I started MechoEcho 3 years ago I was sure I'd charge 15 dollars for it - for me that's the price when I am happy buying an indie game without having to think too much about it. But then 3 years passed, development costs have risen, and I added a lot more content to the game, so I have added a few dollars just so I can pay for my long awaited holidays after the game is launched. :) But I still wanted to make it a point to be less than 20 dollars.

And of course, today you get a discount! ;-)

Thank you for satisfying my curiosity! Now I have another, more serious question: I saw on the game's Steam forum that you might add a level editor in the future. If you do, will it be available for GOG users? Will it be possible to share mods/levels outside of the Steam Workshop? It saddens me that I even have to ask about this, but with the whole Shadwen thing it feels necessary right now.

Oh, and I thought of a question to ask about the sandbox: What is it like? Is it just a huge, flat area, or are there structures in it? Is the sandbox one level, or are there multiple sandbox levels? Is it even a place, or is it a game mode where you can play in the puzzle levels without any limits?

One more question, if you don't mind: For the puzzles, or sandbox for that matter, can you save and load machines that you've made? Do puzzles keep track of any stats, like how many parts you've used, machine dimensions, or how long it took you to complete the level? These were features in Infinifactory, and I felt that they helped add to the replay value of the puzzles.

As I said on Steam, I would like to have an integration with the Workshop in the future (in which case I would add a level editor). But that really depends on how well the game sells. So, a small disclaimer first: please consider buying the game based on the current features, not potential future ones that are not guaranteed - also, promote my game!. :D

If I add level editor I will do all I can to have the same features on Steam and GOG. This said, as far as the level sharing goes (aka workshop), it totally depends on what kind of support GOG Galaxy has for that, which at the moment I am not sure of.

The Sandbox is a large level, roughly the size of 2 or 3 regular levels. It has one racing obstacle course, one very tall tower that's super hard to climb, a bunch of movable blocks in case you want to build a crane or a fork lift, and a wide empty area for all your other experiments. It is a single level which you can access from the main menu at any time.

You can save and load your machine in the sandbox (there is a limit of one savegame, but you can cheat by making copies of your savegames) ;-). It wouldn't make sense to save machines for story mode because each level has different restrictions on which blocks you can use.

I don't have stats for machine size, blocks used. Finally, since you seem concerned about differences between Stem and GOG, the only difference the GOG version has from the Steam one is achievements. And to be clear, this is not GOG's fault, their team has always been awesome, I just had a few issues implementing that.
Thank you for all of the answers!

At the moment, GOG doesn't have its own thing for mods. However, with most games you can share mods wherever you want. Skyrim, for example, has Steam Workshop support but is not limited to the Workshop. Mod authors can still upload their mods to other sties, such as nexusmods.com. In the case of Shadwen, mods can (according to the developers) only be uploaded to Steam Workshop, I guess because Frozenbyte made the editor dependent on it in some way. That's what I was referring to with sharing levels. As long as you make sure that the levels can be shared as normal files, there should be no problems. Of course, that's if a level editor happens.

Thank you for being upfront about that. Achievements aren't something I personally care about (I'm only really concerned with in-game stuff) but I appreciate that you brought it to my attention.

I've now gone ahead and bought the game, and will be trying it out very soon. This should be fun!
Oh lord, someone turn down the bloom!
