Well, regrettable, but it's a pass from me then. I shan't support censorship, especially driven solely by idiotic whims of some third-party publisher that prioritizes removing game's features over ensuring the port's quality.

Steam version is censored as well. It was choice of Ghostlight, not GOG.

I tried. I failed.

edit: I tried again, using my default wine-6.0.2+dxvk. Actually, like with the first game, just moving the movie directory aside works. In this case, there are 3 directories. I'm not sure why that didn't work the first time I tried it. No problems in-game so far, including my controller working correctly out of the box.

IMO the first game was low quality. It wasn't a dungeon crawler but more like an anime version of Vaporum with hidden fights and the fights were maybe 1 to 2 every room. It felt very indy and I stopped playing around 3 hours in. When I see something with the genre Dungeon Crawler I think of Pillars of Eternity and this is nothing like that even with the anime artstyle its still not a Dungeon Crawler.

But they said they had no choice either ... they never said WHY they had no choice though so I guess it was godly intervention or something like this ...

Well, without telling the real reason, it just sounds like cheap excuse to me. If Switch version is full, and it passed PEGI and ESRB ratings, it is really hard to believe, that cutting any content was mandatory for a PC release...

The problem is that Valve don't care if a game has been rated*. They will still demand cuts -- if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, they just ban the game outright with no appeal. For all we know, GL submitted a build with the minigame to Valve. GL were lucky in that the person reviewing it gave them a chance to remove the minigame. It is also likely that GL then opted to just release the same build on all stores as it's easier to maintain one build over multiple.

I can understand that decision even if I don't agree with it.

* Case in point: The Japan only Steam release of Ar Nosurge. Rated by CERO as suitable for 17 and up. Published on Switch and PlayStation 4 uncut. Only Valve demanded that a non-sexual bathing scene CGI be altered. No one else.

Honestly I have this on Switch and I find the minigames to be annoying and wasteful, but I will never support censorship, so even with no interest in the cut content and a GOG release I will not be buying this game.

There is zero proof whatsoever that Valve demanded any cuts from Mary Skelter 2.

And if that did happen, then there would be nothing whatsoever from stopping Ghostlight from publicly stating that Valve demanded cuts.

And there would also be nothing whatsoever to stop Ghostlight from hosting an uncensored patch on their own site.

And there would also be nothing whatsoever to stop Ghostlight from releasing the uncensored version on GOG.

Yet Ghostlight hasn't done any of that.

Besides, Valve sells many games that have exactly the same kind of content the Ghostlight has censored from MS 2. So if Valve was going to demand that MS 2 be censored, then it would also demand that those other games with the same type of content be censored too. Yet Valve hasn't done that.

So no, Valve is not responsible for Ghostlight butchering this game. Ghostlight is 100% responsible. And if that is not true, then Ghostlight can "man up" and provide full public disclosure of all the details for exactly why they censored the game, and allow consumers to judge all the facts for themselves.

The fact that Ghostlight is currently hiding the facts proves that they have something to hide and that their reasons are not legit.

Someone needs to learn the meaning of "For all we know". Someone also needs to learn about NDAs and contracts. They also need to study up on resource allocation as a reason for not being able to put out more than one variation of something...

Someone also needs to learn that Valve are exceptionally contradictory and inconsistent with their demands for censorship. That same someone needs to understand that just because an earlier version was accepted by Valve it doesn't equate to more recent versions also being accepted.

Seriously, that someone should go study up on what Valve are doing before they make themselves look even more like a fool.

2) "Another shooter and people whine because it's censored" - take a moment to think about why this is the exact same thing.
So your theory is that GL censored the game on GOG because Steam demanded the cuts ...

1) It is just a theory.
2) I don't. Whenever I have the opportunity to sell my game in a way that most will buy it (meaning uncensored) I'd chose to go that route. So if Steam only allows the censored game there's still no reason not to try to offer it uncensored to GOG. Would be a win win situation for the game developer and GOG. Regarding the fact that it would be easier to mantain the same game ... in most cases DRM-free and Steam builds are not at all the same anyway.
