twillight: It is insulting enough GoG again only sells an incomplete version of a game, that it is again a new game instead of an old game, but this is simply #FalseAdvertising
How do you think this is "false advertising"? The first thing on the store page (aside from a link to the demo) is the following paragraph:

"Lust from Beyond: M Edition is a new version of the cult survival horror Lust from Beyond. This edition is tailored to the preferences of players who love the genre of Lovecraftian horror for its mystery, narrative, and atmosphere rather than explicit content."

Near the end of the store page (above the system requirements), the following is clearly displayed:

"
Changes in the M Edition

The original Lust from Beyond is an Adult Only experience. The M Edition is the same game tastefully tailored for a wider audience. M stands for the new Mature rating, but also for the many motifs of the Lust universe. The omnipresent Mystery, the iconic Masks, and overwhelming Madness.

The M Edition contains the following changes from the Adult Only edition:

Nudity has been covered by outfits appropriate to the themes and setting.
Some scenes have been rearranged to keep their meaning but reduce the explicit factor.
Some animations, scene framing and models have been changed to meet the Mature rating requirements.
"

Neither the developer nor GOG are trying to trick anyone into buying this or trying to confuse people. They are explicitly saying this is a censored version. That's not false advertising in any way. This is actually one of the rare instances of truth in advertising.

I do agree that calling it "M Edition" sounds misleading, but I can also understand the legitimate reason for calling it that -- to differentiate it from the Adult Only (AO) version.

I am glad to see people fighting to restore the adult edition of this game. I guess I misjudged some of you, or the silent audience is speaking up. Good on you.

Sure, sure. There's an M edition. But people want the AO edition and by God if we have Succubus, Evenicle, Dead End Aegis and that Steam Girl one everyone threw a fit about last week, then we should very well have the AO version of this one. Looks like a lot of people are going to hop aboard their ships for this one.

It's definitely false advertising in spirit, even if it's "not technically" false advertising from a legal standpoint.

They clearly chose to give it a title of "M Edition" in order to give consumers the misleading impression that it is the real, uncensored version, even though it isn't.

If they wanted to be honest and not give consumers a misleading impression, then they could easily title the game honestly, as "Censored Edition" instead of "M Edition."

But they don't do that, because they know that being misleading with the title will reap them illegitimate sales from people who don't actually want to buy a censored product, based on the mistaken impressions that they have created on purpose with their misleading title.

Putting a disclaimer in fine print on the store page, in order to cover themselves legally, does not in any way excuse this misleading behavior. A lot of people might buy the game based on the highly misleading "M Edition" title, without ever reading the fine print.

Literally the first paragraph in the sales page:
Lust from Beyond: M Edition is a new version of the cult survival horror Lust from Beyond. This edition is tailored to the preferences of players who love the genre of Lovecraftian horror for its mystery, narrative, and atmosphere rather than explicit content.
And in case this is too subtle, the sales page repeats the point throughout the text.
imo there's little reason to get particularly upset at GOG for this release (I get the sense a small percent of forum users actively want to be upset at GOG for the dopamine or something), BUT of course if you won't be buying this release and will only buy the uncensored version here, let GOG and the devs know. GOG should accept the uncensored version and, imo, might as well keep the censored version (unless the censored version basically doesn't sell at all).

paladin181: LOL debacle. Your ridiculous black and white view of the world never ceases to amaze me. I don't know how you go through life some days. I agree with the sentiment, they should offer both versions. But let's not act like if the dev didn't want to offer it GOG is in any real position to demand it. Hell, I bought the game because it looks good and the dev has respect for people who don't want explicit content in the game. That is really underappreciated these days.

TheGrimLord: Keep in mind, the uncensored version does contain scenes of rape as in the hentai games you don't like. In fact, the second cutscene with the main character and his girlfriend (and I played it, so can verify) features the two of them having sex, but he becomes very forceful and aggressive while she screams "no, stop!" and eventually throws him off of her and asks what the fuck his problem was.

Does GOG need to mark that as rape porn as well? Also, when the tentacle monster gets a hold of you, I've heard from players that rape is also involved. So are we going to be upset if the adult patch is added and the rape is restored?
Why would I? They offered a less explicit version. If a dlc patch is available to add it in, I just don't install it. You mistake my opinion that such should not exist with a desire to see it banned. I don't like it, I think the people who make it and the people who enjoy it are sick bastards. But if you want to be such, have at it.

I love to be a sick bastard <3
That being said, the innuendo/setting/theme for the game should still be the same, just less explicit. Otherwise it would be a completely different game.....so I'm not really getting how explicitness makes it different or more "problematic".
Except of course if you don't want to see that part, which is ok, albeit a bit odd given the game setting. To each his own.

If they now release the original Version here we can all be happy.

There is a large difference in being told something is happening, seeing innuendo that suggests it is happening, and watching/reading explicit details of what is happening. I like watching Law and Order SVU. I would not enjoy it at all if they showed people being violated in explicit detail. I don't dislike sexually suggestive material. I enjoy sex mini games in games. I don't need to see penetration or have the acts depicted in full detail. I don't want the explicit detail when I'm playing a game.

If I want porn, I'll watch porn. When I'm gaming, I'm gaming, I don't mix and match.
The publisher should've been honest and called it a Censored Edition, s'not like they're fooling anybody with this ploy.
Anyway, pass, though I still might buy uncut one if it's ever released here.

Fair enough.

18+ warning appearing on a 15+ product is bloody false advertising.
Even the title of the game is a blatant reminder that you're buying a gimped product.
You want to hear something funny? Try looking for the game on some piracy sites. You won't even find it. That's because even pirates felt it was a sad waste of time to upload this version of the game.

And if you look at the dev's Twitter, almost no one gives a damn. Not only that, but the devs are trying to bundle this game with everything from Gas Station and Drug Dealer Simulator to Chernobyl and all this other crap. They are trying to bundle this game in every way imaginable to make it palatable. When you have to sell your game with other games, then "you done messed up."

What should have come here was both Lust games with an adult patch. Which the original game actually had built-in. No, I'm serious. When you get the original, it asks you at the startup if you want the adult content or a censored version of the game. This M version makes no logical sense, the censored version was built into the original game at launch! What the heck even is this for? Nobody wants it.

It's also worth noting that the devs added they were happy to bring the game to Germany and you guessed it... China. Looks like they were looking for some Yuan with this one. It's even a possibility that this was done for the Chinese market.

ehr, found, uploaded 9 hours ago XD
not my cup of tea but if I ever wanted to play a game like this I'd want a version without the sexual content. But I still fear that even if it is censored there might still be too much sex in it for me. The traler still looked like there is sexual content.
If I am watching a movie or a series, at least I can fastforward/skip. In a videogame you are stuck watching/doing everything.
So, is there a more censored version than this one, but it's not here?

By curiosity did anybody tried to contact the devs on social media to see if they would consider releasing the uncensored version here ? (I don't use social media so I cannot do it myself)
