well, I enoyed a game with a very bad title with sex innuendo that had in fact no sexual content what so ever in it. I can-t remember the title now, it was about some dead people who kept dying in time loops in a hotel. And we all *usually (have mammary glands! I would still like an adventure with "lovecraftian themes" if it's good and I don't have to endure erotic content - it's unfair to say that I should not be able to play the game if it's good and I can turn off the sexual content. Now, I'm sorry for those who wanted to uncensored version, maybe there will be a dlc or some patch to fix it for you. For me, I fear that it would still be too porny so I'll wait until I know more.

The M version is not redundant.

The censorship in AO version is just pixelating sensitive stuff. In M version they went far above and actually replaced stuff with milder version, so they don't need pixelation. Even their stated reasons for doing it (streamers and people turned away by explicit sex) is believable. Pixelated area on screen just screams "there is something naughty here, you know very well what it is". M version is lot less disruptive if you are in just for the horror. I can believe streamers will really prefer it. If they make money on streamers alone... that's their fight, they believe it was worth it, I'm not gonna tell them how to run their business. There are markets where opt-in censorship won't cut it, they have to have something always-on, or they can't sell there at all. Lots of money to be made for relatively little work.

Really, their only fault I can see is offering only the cut version here, not giving us a choice.

Disclaimer: I didn't play either M or AO version, I just did some research and thinking. I played the demo, and Scarlet (short prequel offered for free). If AO gets here I'll give it another chance, if not... there are a lots of fishes in the gaming sea.

I agree with you, their only fault is that they only sell this version of the game. As it stands, however, I don't think this version is necessarily bad, but it's probably a lot less disturbing.

Having played all the games in the series except this one, I can also say that sex in these games is used as a horror device. Sometimes it's presented first in a romantic or sensual way, only to be twisted into something disturbing as it progresses, but in most cases these are just purely horrifying situations, one after the other. The sex in these games isn't exciting, it's horrible, and that's why I'm not sure if this version is still as twisted as the original, but if the devs did a good enough job, I guess they may have been able to make it work.


I must also add that I disagree with some people here. Playing the original game, I didn't think there were that many sex scenes, or that they were particularly frontal. Has anyone tried this version of the game? All things considered, it may work very well after all.

Sorry, that is not what I wanted to say. In most cases games get censored not because anybody wants the censored game but because it is harder to sell uncensored games in certain countries - that is what I am opposed against. If there is in fact a demand for games game with sexy themes in the title and the description (still don't know why "the sexy brutale" is named this way but the description makes it clear that this game has nothing to do with sex at all) without having any sex in the game I think those should be able to get what they want as well - I simply thought that it sounded a bit paradox. Anyway, an option to turn such explicit content on or off should make everybody happy.

I wonder who this version of the game was made for. I don't mean to judge anyone, and I hope it finds its audience, but I can't help wondering. For example, I don't like games where sex is the main point of interest. I'm not saying they're bad games, just that they're not my thing. However, despite the fact that I don't like these kinds of games, I was able to appreciate the Lust games, as I thought they were interesting because of the way they treated sex as a horror device. I thought the developers did it in a really creative and smart way. Yet, if someone is so disgusted by the way these games approach horror that they can't play them, I don't think this M Edition will be for them anyway, because the underlying element upon which the horror in these games is built upon will still be the same.

Anyway, as I said in my previous post, maybe the devs managed to make it work after all, and maybe it will help them gather a bigger audience. That wouldn't be bad, as I'd love to see more games from this series to be released in the future.

I like the idea ... but still, hasn't sound in video games come far enough for us to simulate the various echos and whatnot in realtime? I ask because I truly don't know. Whilst graphics has been improving over the decades, with graphic cards turning into a science of itself, I have a feeling that audio has been sort of ignored. I have heard some really good stereo effect in games, so good that I took off my headphones because I though they were real, but I have a feeling those were hardcoded, not generated on the fly.

I understand what you say, but even in Netflix I see only 3 shows with sexy in the title, 2 of them are for ages above 14 and one is a reality show about furries. I don't see sexy used in most anything as you say. But ok!

While simulated sound has come a long way and can be very convincing, I imagine that recording actual ambient audio may in many cases be easier to do, with the added benefit that nothing needs to be faked for it to work.

However I can also imagine that in gaming applications, simulating sounds may be preferred, as you can do more with that simulated sound rather than being locked in to the sound you have recorded, with no option to alter that sound for various different situations in the game.

In short, I can easily see a case being made for both methods, depending on what the game would require of that sound.

The game is meh at best. There's no horror, you visit the other realm two or three times the entire game and nothing happens in it. Most of the game is dumb humans vs. humans with some torture porn sprinkled on top. And it takes itself too seriously.
