How far will you go to survive?

<span class="bold">The Long Dark</span>, an immersive struggle for post-apocalyptic survival, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com

It's a beautiful, quiet apocalypse as humanity falls to its knees. Technological might laid to waste completely: the lights go out one last time, the electrical hum of machinery replaced by birdsong and... nothing. No energy, no food, no warmth. What does the future hold? The Long Dark is a first-person survival simulation that'll force you to think, and challenge you in unique ways: a frozen wasteland and the disinterest of Mother Nature may threaten your survival, but it's your own fear, greed, and humanity that'll become your worst enemy.
Now coming out of Games in Development, The Long Dark features a sandbox Survivor Mode as well as Wintermute – a brand new 5-episode single-player campaign. Episodes 1 & 2 are launching alongside the game, while episodes 3-5 are set for release throughout 2017 and 2018.

Let yourself weaken and any small threat may lead to your death. You have to earn the right to survive <span class="bold">The Long Dark</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Please note that the Linux version of The Long Dark has been temporarily delayed due to technical issues. Watch this space for more info.
Mmh, pretty steeply priced for a regular survival game.

What does this have more than those?

I don't know why, but I'm noticing a different price point for games like this overall. See Pillars of the Earth, Absolver, Senua's Sacrifice to name a few.

If they can deliver more polished content thanks to that increase Im in.
Great! Another dev delivers on their in-dev games; I saw The Long Dark getting released on Steam yesterday, so I was pretty sure it would be getting to GOG today (at the very least, tomorrow).

I really like the new trailer and I'm hyped to finally play through the story mode; I know survival games' selling point isn't exactly their story, but I've been playing just the survival part of it for so long, that I'm craving something meatier and different.

Now, if only someone could talk Indie Stone into actually getting freaking Project Zomboid out of in-dev... I'm burned by my experience with those guys and their game, and it's mostly the reason why I haven't been buying any more in-dev games on GOG. I want more Hinterland Studios, less (or absolutely no) Indie Stones getting their games in here.

I wanna play this.
So i´m watiting a few weeks for the next sale. While reading the price tags of these new games i´m getting the feeling of "Lets see what those infants will pay!".
These prices..... I mean, come on.... And then, at the latest half a year after release (winter / summer sales) you get it for a third of that price...
And we shall take it as kindness - but it´s simply a ripp-off.
At least it´s not a preorder with exclusive bonus content this time from lovely GoG...
Sorry, i mean lovely PoP - PreOrderPlatform.
Watch ThisSpace? I have heard of MySpace but not ThisSpace <leaves quickly>
Pity there's no Gog Connect or at least a better discount for Early Access backers who bought the game a few years ago. I even wrote to Hinterland about removing my Steam copy and giving me a Gog one but I never got a response. Ah well at least it's DRM free on Steam which is a big plus.
Hm, GOG has specified WinXP support in SysReqs... Wait, how can it be, WinXP is the "obsolete ancient firewood-heated anachronism" that only the obscurantist purblind old dinosaur farts still use, isn't it?
Edit: I cant remove my comment, and it was about no linux support.
I saw now that we are getting one but its been delayed do to technical problems.

The Long Dark is an amazing game that has been available on GOG as in-development for a while, and even when it was in its in-dev state it was more than worth the asking price. Hours upon hours of fun (provided you like survival games, of course), timely and relevant updates until release -- probably more updates and additions to come, post-release.

This is a good game. €32 for a good game doesn't sound like a rip-off, to me. You want to talk about rip-offs? How about the time my parents paid 12000$00 (that's PTE, Portuguese Escudos, before the Euro) for Silver Surfer on the NES? 12000$00 are roughly €60, not taking into account inflation. That's €60 for one of the worst games ever made, in 1990. Or how about when I paid 10000$00 (€50) for Jurassic War in 1997? A lame RTS which is basically a Warcraft clone, a game so bad people don't even acknowledge its existence, cost me approximately fifty freaking Euros in 1997. But I assume you're one of those whiny old farts who just likes to complain about any game being sold for more than €10, and even when a good game like The Long Dark releases they can't ask for a fair price of €32 because it's a "rip-off". "Bring back the GOOD OLD DAYS before pre-orders and indies and 'casual games'" and all that nonsensical, self-entitled crap you people keep spewing.

I've been playing The Long Dark for many months, now, and I have the utmost respect for Hinterland Studios. They made a great game and they deserve our support. I'm glad I paid the money I did when I bought this game on GOG back when it was released in-dev. It wasn't a rip-off by any stretch of the imagination. It's one of the best games *ever* in the survival genre, and it even got better now that it (finally) has a story mode. Even if the story sucks (which some people I trust already assured me it doesn't), the survival part is still as solid as it gets, and that alone is worth the price of admission.

I apologize for this rant, maybe I'm blowing things out of proportion, here, but I'm getting really tired of people *always* bitching and moaning about... something? in every single announcement/pre-order/release thread on this forum. If it's not the price, it's pixelart, or pre-orders, or because it's an adventure game, or an indie game, or an action game, or because it's a roguelike/roguelite, or because it has randomized generation in it, or because it has perma-death, or because it's low-res, or because it's not a "classic gem" ("WHERE ARE THE GOOD OLD GAMES, GOG?!"), or because whatever petty reason you people find in a game to complain about. Unless it's a valid warning to potential customers (if a game is buggy, or if it doesn't work properly, or if it suffers from false advertising and it's actually a bad game), what's the point of coming into every single one of these threads and say *you* think this and that about this or that game or the video game industry or how GOG is on a spiral of self-destruction and lost all of its "principles"? No one cares. You're just being extremely annoying and coming across as sanctimonious.

TL;DR: This game is worth €32. They're not ripping people off by selling The Long Dark for this price. If you like survival games, you'll love this one, it's one of the best survival games ever made.

Actually, the game when I bought it a long time ago (in development) was cheaper, but it was really just a survival sandbox - and a very good one at that!
Now that the story mode is present the price is quite reasonable (for the complete game, that is), but of course a sale in the future will happen if you can wait.

I quite like that if you put faith in a game while it's in development you can get it cheaper, so I think they did the right thing with the price; it's (almost) a AAA release - the team is industry veterans.
Sooo... no 10% off for GOG customers?
I wonder what has changed after all these years in The Long Dev..

Ooo, exciting! I don't generally like survival games but this one has me very interested with how it is done (the mechanics and implementation of everything, and that it has a story mode, which is crucial.) PZ is the other.

Just another year or so until I actually play (I am waiting for all episodes.)

I did survival mode a little bit when it was in-dev. and it was good.

Article 19 of the UDHR states that "everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice".

Having said that, it is true that when there are several "complainers" in the same spot at the same time, this spot usually loses it's charm... Either way, don't give much attention to things that irritate you because, hey, we all have our own opinions even if not everyone can express them nicely.

Regarding the game, i think i've read somewhere that it is kinda like Skyrim with survival mods (or that was the idea behind TLD); if that's the case, it should be a good game and right up my alley.
