Alexim: but I think GOG wants to earn as much money as possible like any company,
Ancient-Red-Dragon: Over the years, lots of people have claimed on this board that GOG curation has to reject games if the hosting & support costs will be more than will be the income they generate from the game.
This game seems to fall into that kind of boat.
Will GOG lose money by selling games like this...and not just this one alone, but also other games that also aren't likely to sell many copies, but still passed curation anyway?
Maybe GOG's strategy has changed (or maybe it's always been like this and we just didn't know) to something more like this: bring a variety of games that may not sell well individually but
all together bring in enough money to keep the lights on. (I'd still like a
little curation/QA to prevent releases of what basically everyone can agree (as close to objective as possible) is garbage, but of course less curation than '17-ish level as I've said before.)
Plus it adds to the library - "Over 4500 games here!" "Over 3000 on sale!".
That said, I
assume the majority of GOG's money comes from like a few dozen very popular titles.
soosgjr: I don't know about this game in particular, but calling Elasto Mania shovelware is a pretty far off. It's a game that was the very least known by every gamer back in my school and supposedly to this day has a cult following in Eastern Europe.
Waifu4Life: Plenty of shovelwares have cult followings, doesn't mean that they should be re-released. I mean what's next, Big Rigs? Just saying, if their "curation" wouldn't allow these games to be released on GOG if they were new, why bring them here just because they're old? Going by this logic, in 10 years, they'll need to release every indie games they rejected back then.
I actually think Big Rigs would sell
quite well frankly, assuming a cheap price; and honestly, I think I'd be okay with it. Also, just to be clear, are you taking issue with this release specifically, or a specific previous release? Because (and correct me if I'm wrong) I think you were defending GOG bringing anime porn games that other people thought shouldn't be released here. If that's true, then why not let GOG bring "shovelware" if some people want to purchase it? (Is this release shovelware? Can the majority of people decide what is shovelware and what isn't?)
Of course GOG should keep working on better search options for those who want to avoid any of this, be it porn games or shovelware or shovelware porn games. I support letting people
hide games they don't want to see again (as a "
reverse wishlist", and the option to see all hidden games in case you think you hid one by accident); and bringing back search by publisher and developer in the search bar; and more.
