The clockwork metropolis.

Lethis - Path of Progress, the steampunk city-builder with the Victorian backdrop, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

It may not be such a powerful word today, but there was a time when all people were talking about was the energy revolution of steam. It's easy to see why, as it was pretty much what brought the wonders of mass production to everyday life. Lethis is a Victorian world drenched in that mix of romantic steampunk aesthetics and aggressive resource consumption that calls for firm management and an eye for innovation.

The introduction of steam applications opens up a wonderful, cartoony world of opportunities. But before you can block out the sun with your fleet of zeppelins or give your people that huge observatory, you must first tend to your production lines, make sure to keep your workers happy, and establish profitable trade routes for the glory of the Empire. Mass production brings mass management problems and mass expectations from the masses. But bold science and smart coordination will help your lovely cities reach their full industrial potential and maybe raise a majestic monument or two.

Discover the excitement and far-reaching decisions that come with industrial revolution in Lethis - Path of Progress, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until March 5, 1:59 AM GMT.

mrkgnao: Why not on Linux?
It didn't make the sub-curation cut. Even though GOG carefully curates its catalogue by selecting on certain games, they love Linux users the most and thus further curate their own catalogue to offer them just a premium handful of the best titles.

HypersomniacLive: I'll have one of the 45 RPM records, please.
On the way. The B-side incidentally is an in-development cover of "Ship of Fools".

tfishell: And yet you can't leave? ;-) Because GOG is the lesser of the x evils?
Pretty much. Though my presence here continues to wane as the gaming hobby is losing out to other interests in my life.

Zoidberg: Flaws specific to the game's genre. I think John Bain did a video on it.
I've watched his video. On a first look I thought Lethis is like SimCity, but it's more like a Caesar / Pharaoh / Zeus successor. And it indeed seems to share some of the flaws of this kind of games.

Matruchus: It installs perfectly but I can't get past the loading screen since the game does not support Intel integrated graphics and somehow does not detect my discrete graphics card in Wine.
Thanks for the report. Sine I've seen that this game is not like SimCity but more like Caesar / Pharaoh / Zeus my interest is somewhat lessened, at least at this price. I still will get the game sooner or later, but I have more time to wait for other Wine reports now. :)

avatar
Matruchus: Don't know how to fix that.
This game in general seems to be a bit finicky about the hardware it runs on (or runs not). I do not have such a dual card system, but can't you already deactivate the Intel graphics card on Linux itself and switch to the discrete one before you start Wine?

JudasIscariot: RPM would imply a distro such as Fedora :P

(Yes, I know what the RPM stands for in IAmSinistar's post....)
Good one!

eiii: The graphics isn't exactly my preferred style, but the game is still interesting.

It has no Linux version, so does the Windows version run under Wine (unfortunately there's no appdb entry)?

That's unfortunate. 。゚・(>﹏<)・゚。 It does state that it doesn't run on Intel Integrated graphics card. That's why I did not wishlist it. Perhaps you can play it on another computer.
Looks like the main complaint of pathing got a fix.

From steam:

ENGLISH
V 1.2.0
- Fixed problems in the pathfinding.
- Mansions are now well displayed in the "taxes" filters.
- In the mission “XXVI Elsing”, the access button to the world map is now disabled.
- The new decorations are now visible in the filters.
- Added keyboard shortcuts:
- Esc. : Exits the current action
- 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9: Opens the various building categories
- Added language option in game.

A user on the steam forums that the dev can no longer update the game, I don't know if it's true or not. But you should consider that this game might not get any more work. I am thinking about whether to get it too.

The dev can no longer update the game ? That is even more alarm bells for me. :( I wouldn't mind as much if the price was lower but look at the full price when the 50% off is over. Looks like this one is a "wait" until discounts put it much cheaper than current discount. At least 70% off the original price for me would make it instabuy.

After looking into it more, it sounds like they lost their dev. Perhaps he/she moved on to another job or something.
No demo, fine. *applauding* It's always better to make no demo than to do one. Fine.

Not sure I like the sound of either...

I don't know how to do that. But its possible that there is something other wrong with the game in Wine since the same loading screen appears on Win 8.1 but the game loads without a problem there.

Its not a problem it works on Win 8.1. At least I got to boot up Windows again after more then two weeks :)

Gotcha. Thank you for that.
Definitely waiting for minimum of 70% off before buying this.

That's all secondary. The important thing is that the single remains sitting at the top of the chart, even if it means taking payola.
Overall it seems to be nice. The steampunk stuff on top is a cool idea. If it where not for these weird unpredictable NVidia Open GL CTDs :/

It's not secondary to me. And on that note - that's some ugly stuff, and sadly neither new nor going away.
