They're killing the peasants at Eisenwald!

Legends of Eisenwald, a mix of cRPG and classic adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Look for the game at 33% off during the Big Fall Promo!

Forget dragons, swords, and sorcery - the Reformation in medieval Germany is where it's at. Legends of Eisenwald is a gritty, down-to-earth fantasy story that mixes the combat and loot elements of hex-based cRPGs with the classic "solving puzzles to overcome challenges" gameplay of adventure games - think King's Bounty meets King's Quest and take out a chunk of the high fantasy tropes you love or hate so much.

Medieval Germany in religious conflict is a grim, unwelcoming place, but it sure makes for a good adventure. It's only fair that as a noble, you fit right in like a piece of the cruel, cruel puzzle. Sometimes, you just have to work a few men to death to turn your luck around.

You can pick up the Knight's Pack DLC for the Legends of Eisenwald OST in both MP3 and FLAC formats, as well as a Digital Artbook. During the first six days after launch, you'll also get the newest Road to Iron Forest DLC completely FREE with your game purchase.

The world is going to hand you nothing on a silver platter, you just have to take it - Legends of Eisenwald is now DRM-free on GOG.com.

Ixamyakxim: *EDIT TO ADD* By the way - anyone playing this feel free to start pumping in impressions! Loved the video I saw (thanks aterdux for posting the combat runthrough - Battle Monks rule!) and wouldn't mind a few early game impressions!

Pajama: Where did you find the combat runthrough? Thanks :)

Give me *two minutes* to edit this post with the link. The developer was nice enough to post it in this thread after I inquired about the combat "flow" as it were. It's a fun video, showing what a few different tactics / party equipment options will do for the same combat encounter.

*EDIT* Here you go! It was in a post earlier in the thread (Post 32 if my "quote box" is correct) - enjoy!

Ixamyakxim: Let me know if you find out / when you start playing! I'm curious too - it does LOOK a bit like Expeditions but the description mentions Kings Bounty. For some reason, I'm not as big a fan of the KB / HoMM style combat on a hexgrid (feels a bit generic) vs something like Expeditions that feels like a proper tactical battle with real, individual units.

aterdux: Many people compare us to E: C but I am not sure we are too close, these are two different games that have a few things in common.

As for combat, it's a unique combat system, sort of a cross between Disciples 2 and HoMM. It looks simple at the surface yet has a lot inside. Take a look at the combat video I made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibG4iMSaTOo

nightcraw1er.488: Yes, am tempted just to ask for a refund now. This "optional" client crap is making the site more steam like by the day.
avatar
Ixamyakxim: I'd hold off - obviously it's your own time and patience but I wouldn't punish the developer (who was nice enough to show up and support his / her game!) for what is I'm sure a temporary glitch on GoG's end.
Same boat. I'm still disappointed the standard Downloader isn't supported any longer though. Every day GoG galaxy is looking a little less like the 'fully optional client' they claim it is.
You know, I like this game, but something that bugs me about feudal settings in video games is: Too many soldiers wearing full-plate armor. No, not mail, plate. For someone to afford full body plate armor would make them a "millionaire" in a medieval economy.

It's OK if a noble or King wears it, common soldiers no.

mrkgnao: In this case, it wasn't GOG's fault.
The developer did not have a DRM-free version until now. See here.
If the developer did not have an incentive to ensure concurrent release on GOG, it's certainly in GOG's interest to make it so.

However you look at it, ultimately my money went to Steam... and I'd much rather have spent it here.

That's one way of looking at it, and I respect it.

I prefer to look at it this way: If enough people cared enough about DRM-free they wouldn't buy on Steam, full stop, and then the developer would have a higher incentive to release a DRM-free version. The fact of the matter is that DRM-free games is a niche market and I, for one, cannot blame the developer for concentrating on the major market.

If people prefer to buy a DRM-full game upon release rather than wait for a DRM-free release a year (or ten years) later it just means that that's where their priorities lie. It's really got nothing to do with GOG in my opinion. But that's my opinion and I presume yours is different.

Needless to say I have never bought a single game on Steam.

Have tool tips that run off the edge of the screen been addressed in the Steam version? I can't see skill names or their descriptions because most of the pop up tool tip window is out of frame. Same for buying items in the left column at market and upgrading characters at level up. That is annoying as Hell and has pretty much stopped me from playing the game, because I can't identify what skills do what.

PaterAlf: Downloading works fine with the GOG downloader, that's not the problem. It's the normal download links (via browser) that don't work. And it's ridiculous that GOG wasn't able to fix that for mor than a day now. They always told us that Galaxy is optional, so it can't be the solution that they tell us to use it now. There are many of us who don't want any additional clients and programs on their computers.
If the GOG.com downloader links work, could someone describe how to use it to download the Road to the Iron Forest DLC? I don't see a link for it on the page & trying to use the direct links in a browser redirects to the 404 page. Having a mandatory proprietary program to download & install games is why I never joined Steam. Could someone remind me what "optional" means again?...
Well, turning off hardware cursor fixed mt issue with the tool tips for me.

Only knights and heavy infantry wear plate armor in our game. Most of the team is into historic recontstruciton and LARP so we know how this works :)

I think the fault is both sides, our side probably bigger. Few months before release GOG told us they evaluated our game last year (2014) and were not interested. So, I didn't make any plans for DRM free then. But I didn't give up and asked if they could re-evaluate arguing the game has very much improved since Early Access. Thank God, GOG said they would re-evaluate and asked me if I could push for DRM-free release on the launch date. But it was already less than a month before the launch and we honestly couldn't make it happen since we had to implement tons of features ready for the release and our pipelines were geared all towards Steam and none of the Steam functionality was separated. If we had few more programmers, we would be able to make and support DRM free version on time. But just with two it is too hard. My fault is that I should have prioritized doing DRM free version earlier anyway and I didn't...

Go to your Account, Games section and search for or find Legends of Eisenwald. Next click on the picture or list entry and in the large 'card' popup click the More button to open the sub menu and choose GOG downloader links.

This will take you to a relatively plain page here: https://www.gog.com/downloader/listing/legends_of_eisenwald. From this list there's an option, second to last for the DLC. It's listed as MacOSX DLC but it's the Windows one.

This is the second time I've missed a a patch or game file due to GOG listing the Windows file under MacOSX :(

+1 to HiddenAsbestos - thanks.
