UPDATE: Want to keep listening to the eerie soundtrack of Kona even after the cold winds have died down? Then go ahead and grab it - it's now available for purchase separately.

Kona, a survival/exploration adventure of supernatural thrills and natural chills, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Private detective Carl Faubert was just looking to make an easy (Canadian) buck. But soon after he arrives in Northern Quebec to investigate the alleged wrongdoings of the local community against the cruel industrialist who desecrated their land, things take a sinister turn. And then another one. And another.

NOTE: Kona is the first of four games that will be taking place in the same setting.

This definitely is a must-buy for me. It will be my next purchase, as soon as I can afford it.
A shame they used Unity, the game has the typical, really sterile look which is so off-putting.

This is an interesting comment to me. You might be dead on but personally I don't think sterile when I look at those shots.

Can you point out any specifics?

Again I am just curious, I'm not trying to start anything. :P
"Kona is the first of four games that will be taking place in the same setting"
Does this mean this game is Episodic ? ... or the game was cut into parts to speed up the dev process ... ?

As I understand it, kind of.

It isn't actually episodic, but four stories of distinct people in the same universe.

I think the original plan was to have each day be a separate episode and be played using a different playable character. I think they've dropped the single day part, but kept the different playable character part.

Its pretty usual that people are critizizing engines, but when push comes to show people cant be spesific about it.
My 5 cents, theres is nothing wrong with a game engine usally.
Even Unreal engine have bad games but it doesnt mean the engine itself is bad.

Blaming the engine is like blaming what kind of tools an artist use.
So unless the engine has some serious bugs or weird shit happening people shoud just stop blaming engines.

Screenshot 3 - the house
Trailer 1 - left fence 4 seconds in, crates(?) and bench 11 seconds in, (you can argue about the wall behind the fridge 17 seconds in), the wood part you are walking on 36 seconds in.

It's about surfaces that look sterile, because of the lighting and them being flat without any speck of "organical material" on them. The objects never fit into the world and depending on the developers and on the game, there can be many such objects or few. It also transcends genres. For instance, I can easily see whether this RTS, RPG or FPS was made in Unity.

/edit: Added two pictures to show differences. The attached one is made in Unity, while the link leads to Desperados, a somewhat old game by now. Just look at the barrels in the Unity game for example, they don't fit in at all (see the difference between them and the ground?).

Cool. Thank you. I'll need to go back and look at those.
Finally, I can start to play. Bought it last year and dont wanted do play it 'in dev', because it seems to be an story driven game.
yey! been waiting for them to finish tweaking it, didnt want to spoil it by peeking during dev
Looks interesting... maybe someday. :)

groze: pretty much every game made with Unity practically supports Linux from the get-go, so we should have less Linux users demanding a port. :P
Still, I'm grateful for every native Linux game.

Thanks, devs (of Kona and Unity)

The graphics and setting look nice but what is the gameplay like and can you drive the car or is that just in the cut scene?
