myst_gr: As I already have the original (in cd) I already have my saves.
Is there any info on using these saves from the original in this new remaster?
avatar
Cavalary: Also from the FAQ:
Will old save games work?
They might, however only doable via a third-party converter tool (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!), but not in an official capacity on our end, as there are too many risks at play.
I was afraid that this answer will emerge... :-(
Anyway thanx for the info!

ShadowWulfe: Any chance of the discount Steam users have being applied here?

Like a version of GOG connect that creates a one time coupon code?
+1 on this idea. I own the original on Steam, Origin and X360. If I could get the discount that other store offers, this would be an instabuy. As it is now, I will have to put it on the wishlist. Thanks for bringing it to us DRM free, I will buy it in time.
They need to put this on Connect for prior owners, I'm NOT getting this without it being on GOG, but it's 60% off for me over there since I own the original, so it's going to be a poretty decent wait for a sale here if there's no way to claim that loyalty discount on the store where I'm planning to pick it up.

The devs claim it's impossible to prove that people own the game on Steam and apply the discount on GoG. However, GoG Galaxy 2 proves that they're lying.

amok: I hope you mean 'skip the cutscenes'...
avatar
dtgreene: Well, then your hope does not bear out; I was actually asking for an option to skip the load times (and if that's not possible, re-architect the game to make it possible).

Yes, I am probably asking the impossible here.
yes, yes you are.

paladin181: My God the loading times are insanely long. I'm just stunned at waiting over 7 total minutes in an hour of play just on loading. That's more than 10% of my time!!!!

timppu: HDD? SATA SSD? Ultra-high speed NVMe Express PCI-E generation 5 SSD?

I guess now that next gen consoles will have SSDs by default, it will become pretty much a requirement for PC games as well that they are run from SSDs. Maybe they still work also from HDDs, but causing issues like this. The seventh law of physics says that the bigger the game is, the more data there is to load, hence the longer the loading times will be. There is no way around that.

Whatever, I've already decided that with my next gaming PC (with 85% probability a thick gaming laptop, with 15% probability a desktop), I will not settle for anything less than a 1TB SSD (not SATA of course) as its primary drive. HDDs I'll keep using for storage and archives, usually through USB.
Except that the game's size immediately screams "not SSD".

I also think the GOG Connect idea could work. GOG could make a database entry for the original game that doesn't contain anything. The purchaser would need to do the connect step, then the discount could be automatically applied to the new release. I would even settle for a 50% discount, instead of the 60%, to have it here.

It probably won't be done now that people have been paying the higher price. I can wait, I have other games to finish. I'm on BG:EE now, and plan to go on to BG2:EE. I need to go back and finish Witcher 1, I'm half way through. And I still have Spider-Man, Jedi Fallen Order and Horizon Zero Dawn to finish.

It wouldn't have been done anyways as the developers clearly are lying that it can't be done despite GoG Galaxy 2 showing that cross checking can be done. They just want to price gouge GoG players for a game that is a minor graphical improvement (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1041720/discussions/0/2950376844041506412/) from the original while fixing some bugs but adding additional ones.

This brings to mind the between-turns time in the large campaign within Total War: Warhammer 2 (even with fast PCs). They added a patch that suppossedly made things faster, long after launch. Could not be bothered to check it. Old and indie games that were actually fun to play had already grabbed my attention.

Why? It's only 40Gigs.

How come? The bigger the game is = most probably the more there is data to load at any given time = the faster (and yes, also bigger) the mass media device needs to be.

I am sure the game still fits nicely in a 1TB SSD drive. The next gen game consoles have like 800GB SSD drives or so, IIRC.
Nice to see this finally here (even if it is a remaster). I own the original on Steam. I will pick this up at some point, but it's too expensive for me right now.
The reviews on Steam are less than stellar.

dtgreene: I'd recommend putting the game on SSD if the size were semi-reasonable, but unfortunately this game is one of those double-digit gigabyte size games that is too big for an SSD.
What are you talking about 'too big for an SSD?' I only have M.2 drives in my gaming rig. I've not run into any games too big for my drives yet. 40 GBs certainly isn't even close.
